Project very well done. I wonder if the Aquadefense would have given the same results as the rest of it weren't old?
Your video fails to discuss thinset types and consistency of mix. You cannot let thinset be exposed to air that long, it will skin over and be no good.
Thank you for this video
Bob i just watched that video of the guy doing the dry pack shower with the fibreglass tge thinset then napei aquacoat... What us going on with that. You didnt really start the conversation very diplomatically, but i couldnt understand howvthst shower pan was to work. The fibreglass mesh was just lsyed over the dry pack??? And then the edges of the pan are onlynprotected from water if the aqua coat doesnt fail which i feel is a huge possibility wit it being a wood and masonary joint. Could you explain his method. I typically make a plastic bag with schluter membranes or boards over top of the drypack preslope.
I don't know the video you're speaking of, but you can copy and paste it here so I can answer you properly
@@StarrTile kzread.info/dash/bejne/d2F6tZSsc9u8hdY.htmlsi=HzsYSvFP8l8xFwqe
This one. I have never seen this method and seems either wrong or archaic compared to today's water proofing systems. Even schluter has a lot of nay Sayers but, in most cases it was done slightly incorrectly
@@Matt-my7pz now you have confused me even more, this has nothing to do with tile or showers, obviously it is about concrete
@@StarrTile lol I'm sorry to waste your time, I'm pretty sure I copy and pasted the correct link. I am confused as well
Very good video my question is how we are going to test the liner if the weep holes will keep draining
You put a plug in the drain and do a flood test after the liner is put down..... But..... this is an old video and we don't do that anymore, the mortar surface gets waterproofed so the motar will never see water and neither will the weep holes. Look up sealed system shower on YT
Thanks, very helpful!
Its all a big notch trowl the small nothes are the tile markings 😂😂
Looks like a bad job when the tiles liped bad but i would say the tiles are chiping cos the floor tuck a lot of water and the timber floor sucked in a load of that water an fucked the floor when swelled
Amazing work!
That's great to see you guys together.
Base rock AKA crushed concrete and vibra plate it/compact it then rebar. And hope they lifted the rebar, if it is sitting on the earth its useless..
Has it rained hard yet since it was poured?Looks great Bob ,definitely a quality job in my opinion. Ty for the share . Have a great evening.
Yes as a matter of fact it did rain both yesterday and today, since it was poured 7 days ago... went out to look at it and the water remediation seems to be working
Dig out, compact, rock, compact again, then rebar .
Yeah that would have been my take on it too... I hope the lack of Rock doesn't cause a failure
Completely wrong, you pour the curb with the pan then Waterproof with aqua defense or red guard . NO 2X4'S AT ALL, EVER !
I've used 2x4 for the entire 24 years in this business, entire shower water proof so it's 💯 irrelevant.... same as I could build shower walls out of cardboard because the shower is entirely waterproof. You would not have a better shower because you make your curb out of cement GTFOH
You are delusional on that matter. No disrespect but you are wrong 100%
@@mhernandez5354 show your proof of me being wrong, you can't just say something without backing it up, conversely I have nearly 700 videos over 14 years on KZread to back up everything I say
I have the same problem now. A relative handed me a knee scooter bought second hand from a medical supply store. The steering shaft threads have been stripped and no idea if that is the original nut or not. I am working with the same threads you are. I was able to reopen threads back original size (I think), but there is not enough thread material left to sufficiently tighten the nut. I will try cutting down to 9/16 like you did. I will have to narrow the end of the shaft like you did to get the smaller die started. I think you did a fine job! A situation under much less than ideal conditions.
can u use 1/4 inch for bathroom instead of 1/2
No
What if after following these instructions, there is still a leak but ONLY at the washer and nut where it connects to the tailpipe? No where else. Mine goes from the tailpipe, to the extension tube, to the P, to the drain. But it continues to leak only at the connection from the tailpipe to the extension tube. No where else!
Then you don't have the plastic washer in place or upside down or perhaps you have the type that has the flange where you don't need a washer, hard to tell unless I was there
So very helpful, saved me on two projects so far. Thank you!
This seems like sound reasoning, especially with a 4x4 tile or some such. What if you are using 2x6 tiles, or a mosaic? How would you adequately support the tiles past where they contact the backer board? With 2x6 glass tiles, for example, 50% of your tile would be hanging off the backerboard with no support. I wouldn't even know where to begin supporting a mosaic overhang. Any thoughts?
There are many ways to overcome that, in the Tile World there are no problems only solutions, what I would probably do is put up a piece of quarter inch backer into that Gap that's already been waterproofed, silicone it in really well and move on from there, but each project presents specific issues that you overcome when you get to those so there would be a solution ultimately that would work
@@StarrTile Thanks for the advice! :)
Okay this makes alot of sense, but if you are not tiling the top portion of the shower/tub unit and you want it painted and to have the finished look without the screws holding the lip to the 2x4s showing how would you suggest hiding those?
I still believe the preslope will allow more water to find its way out , however i am going to waterproof my shower beds to reduce the amount of water that makes it into the shower base, and hopefully reduce mold build up under the floor tile
👍🏼
This is what happened to me I took it apart underneath P Trap and put it back together and it has a small leak?? I think maybe I don't have the pipes high enough?? Why is it leaking?? My pipes needed to be cleaned out!
😍
That's a lot to tile... hope your knees/wrists are ready.
What happens if you have a rocking job? That does not have a lip. Then where do you put the hearty board
What about a walk-in tub without a lip
Nice video but I'm still doing a pre-slope. Your demonstration is defined by there always being some amount of water in the pan. I'd like to have my pan become as dry as possible much like the way a tub or sink drains until it is dry. Also, I get the use of "pebbles" but never felt the need-so at least you verified that especially since most drains are centrally located and will see the most force from people standing on or close to it. (pebbles making for a weak spot).
Honestly I have stopped talking about pre slopes going back probably 5 years....the kool-aid is too strong. But I will say this, with wicking action your pan will never ever be dry...pebbles can clog holes easier than mortar because pebbles are dense. And as you mentioned cause a weak spot. Intuitively it makes no sense since 1/4" per foot is a plumbing code for gravity fed water in a sewer line, not encapsulated with 200pounds of mortar. So critical thinking is necessary to overcome the myth fed theory. Having said all that nobody does the pre-slope anymore because we have transitioned to a sealed system in the last 3-4 years, although I started creating my own sealed system about 7 or 8 years ago and it is Bulletproof. This leaves preslopes as irrelevant as a phone booth.
Looks good.
I was only getting burning water on a new install It’s now beautiful temperature cold & hot Thanks to this video 👍🏻 many thanks for sharing
We're is the rest of the rebar😊
glad to hear the straight up....
I heard about that concrete guy that does tile 😄.. you gonna float it Bob?
Waiting for the finishing startile
Could you also just heat up the mirror with a blow dryer or heat gun? Anyone know?
Great video! I like your style, and your direct no nonsence approach. I have question for you? I want to build a roman tub out of double 3/4 ply wood. How would you go about doing this?
dont do it
Where in the world is the base? 😮
Well done 👏🏽
Of course 😉
I think it could be something that contaminated the marble since I've seen this before and it could be a contaminate in the water or something oil based, that landed on those tiles. As you're seeing, they're porous so perhaps even some oil stains from the street could have been walked in there with boots. I'm not an expert but a staining happened in My bathroom after I used steel wool and from years of use. Thanks for this and would love to figure this out too, so I could avoid a call back. I 've even seen contaminated marble with discolorations from floor stripper containing muratic acid and it yellows the stone if it's not quickly picked up after diluted.
Contractors = Always complaining about about how we need to charge more and more and more
Pending on glue. Use shims then use goof off and drip down on wall. Only for hard to stick mirrors only And if you have crazy customers like I seem to get who put 12 by 12 on walls and ceiling in bathroom less shower area. Don’t do the job. Lol
Interested in trying that one day, but...seems messy
@@StarrTile it is messy. Normally you get those customers who have a large mirror but want to reuse it. Normally I’d go with your approach 1st. If not working then go to next. Way I see it. Bathroom is getting redone. Sink. Cabinet and so on. So the mess isn’t a big deal. But if not doing the bathroom ya it’s a mess. But then you find those mirrors that someone thought oh I don’t want it to fall so I’ll use 16 tubes of caulk. Lol The joyful things we get to see in construction
I don't know anything about anything but even i can see why you're so upset! How could he do that to a neighbor and a friend? I'd want to give someone i have a relationship with the very best results because they're my people, you know? I'm frustrated for you... i can't believe he didn't do everything in his power to make things right. The over spraying, paint residue on the hose, nail removal/ patching on the garage trim, etc are easy to remedy; he couldn't make the effort to rectify those kinds of errors, at least? What a shame... You gave him work and that's the thanks you get? Smh... Not only did you get unsatisfactory service but you lost a friend. I feel for you! 😡😮💨
Thank you for the comment, I appreciate all the kind words, and I would say I agree with you 100% that he should have done a much better job for somebody he knows, but then again the house is for sale and I guess he just didn't feel like he needed to go the extra steps. Eventually it sold anyway without any of those issues coming up, thankfully. But as a contractor myself doing tile work I always make my customer happy even if it cost me money because at the end of the day all you have is your name and reputation. The fact that I lost a friend out of it it's not really a big deal because friends don't treat friends like that so he never really was to begin with, that's just the way I see it..... But thank you 😊 👍🏻
bravo
2 margin trowels , 1 on top, another round a corner, Wiggle it and it will pop. If it makes you feel better, put 2 pieces of tape as an x.
Never heard that one...will try it sometime
All liners require it per the company instructions. kzread.info/dash/bejne/iWFtsrCOhZmyh6w.html
You should to include a rough sketch or diagram of the components or show the work in videos. When you just describe with a lot of missing detail then jump to finished phases and say “welp there she is” it leaves many questions for us.
Need you for another livestream so I don't have to pay the $50 😂
Bahahahahahaha 🤣
ChuckP25 Said it was the best 50 Bucks he spent. He said his shower is still going strong.
I was lucky, the mirrors in both bathrooms were held up by a few clips.
Lucky for sure
Your videos are the best. My shower is still going strong. The best $50 consultation I ever spent!!
Thank you sir, much appreciated
