Hi again. Great to see you're getting into Lara too. That said, you know how you said Dimash's Weekend didn't get to you the way his other songs/performances did? Well, this one was Lara's Weekend. First, they way overdid her look, her makeup, the camera work. She trusted her record company at the time, and they started to spend big bucks on her around the time of this video because it was obvious she was something special, but they totally missed who she was and what she was capable of, and ended up doing a seriously crap job. (And then they dumped her because all the studio video work they did fell flat, and they felt she competed with their other star, Celine Dion, and, well, forget that crap.) So yes, this song is a good song, and with her singing it we should have been crying. But instead it's like "I wish I knew what the lyrics were so I could actually feel something. I mean she sounds like it's about something!". And the truth is that, without their incompetent handling of her, it _would_ have had us crying. I know that because I've heard her live concert video performances of this same song and I cried -- and I _still_ didn't know what the lyrics meant. Fact is, this production killed her soul rather than brought it out, but she got past that by mostly focusing on live performances. Her live performances are a billion times better than this (and so too her more recent studio videos because she took back artistic control). I strongly urge you to react to songs/performances from her legendary From Lara With Love concert in 2000. Every song is fantastic but more importantly her performances are just so emotional. When you know how to do "overtone singing," or "polyphonic singing," you can make a LOT of very strange things happen. Different people will also hear it in different ways. I can whistle without forming my lips in the same way I would normally whistle (with my mouth "pursed" (being formed in a tight circle). Watching Dan Vasc's techniques have helped me get back a lot of my muscle memory, after nearly 12 years of only being able to sing BASS (which I could always do, but then could travel up into the highest 1st soprano ranges nearly effortlessly). Greetings from Scotland! Diana is 21yo currently but she was just 18yo here! I've been following her career since she was around 13yo. Diana is a natural Dramatic Contralto so the lower registers are her comfort zone but she has increased her range even more since this. She also naturally sings with polyphonic overtones so it sounds like many voices at the same time! Any song, any genre, in any language, Diana can sing it and improve it! You need a little back story to understand what helped "create" this unique phenomenon:- Diana's birthmother had multiple miscarriages but when Diana came along, she seemed to hate her. She verbally and physically abused her, trying to drown her and belittle her. It all culminated when (at 3yo) a passing relative found her in her home with a broken collarbone and several other injuries. She went for the authorities who removed Diana from her birthmothers care and placed her in an orphanage. For almost 2 years Diana never gave up hope and she knew that she was meant for something better. (This story is in her Wikipedia entry) Finally her new mother (Irina Ponik, who worked as a masseuse there occasionally) Signed her adoption papers and took her home. She vowed to pay Irina back for her kindness. Irina had a real struggle because Diana had obviously been badly affected by the experiences and at 5yo, she had a very bad stammer. It was recommended that she be taken for singing lessons to help this and immediately it was recognised that Diana had perfect pitch and an excellent ear for music and songs. 1 year later, at 6yo, Diana was performing solo on stage! This young unique phenomenon sang everywhere and anywhere she could, working constantly to earn money for the family who rescued her.
