    @oddduckfoundry8223 Hmm. If I recall correctly, the Lilly Belle(s) were built from the plans of a real 4-4-0 locomotive. That's why the workmanship is so good. Those plans likely are public domain due to age. Even if the big mouse had rights, they probably lost them like they did the original Steam Boat Willie.

    So happy this project found its way to you instead of getting parted out or cashed for scrap value! It gives a man pause to consider what will happen to his life's works when he moves on. I'm sure the original creator of this project would've been very pleased.

    @@MrTapanes I feel the same way. I have a soft spot in my heart (or head, remains to be seen...) for unfinished projects. I wish I could know more of thr history, whether this was a new build or a refurbishment. There doesn't appear to be any wear on the moving parts, so I'm leaning towards new build.

    @@oddduckfoundry8223 yeah the 3d modeling software is a pain to get used to, for sure I'd rather be building wooden patterns. But the machinery to do it that way takes up a lot more space...

    make sure to level the bed well and set the distance from the nozzle to the bed correctly. you can change the offset by moving the limit switch or in software. Also make sure the bed is clean. Some people like soap and water but isopropyl alcohol works good and fast

    Pretty cool old loco, cant wait to see the build/rebuild of it. I thought you really didnt want to use brass for steam stuff because of de-zincification and the parts getting brittle over time? Also, that thin copper tubing on the oiler, I have some of it that I got for making a mist coolant sprayer, but I picked it up at napa. Im not sure what it was used for originally, but it wasnt too expensive and you can get a coil of it there.

    When you cast aluminum do you use just any kind, or do you stick to recycled cast aluminum?

  • @oddduckfoundry8223
    @oddduckfoundry8223 Жыл бұрын

    Depends on the final application. If it's just a sign or something like that, anything is fair game. If it's something that's structural or to be machined, I use a better grade of aluminum, like car rims or something that was originally a commercially cast item.
