    Both sound great, and to the average person they sound very similar.

    Your basses are a lot more quiet than mine. Are they dampened to amplify more? I have a 1936 King Moretone, Which I think were actually made to be louder... But I bought mine in about fifty pieces and put it back together. But it's still quite loud!

    I think it’s because it was recorded on a iPhone. The sound generally is quiet. The BBW (fully carved) is actually really loud.

    @wesleystanton the slap technique is my next goal, though... that rocks! I could only do basically swing eighth notes. Those rapid fire triplets are very interesting to me! I'm going to have to figure out a good pick up scheme... Because all the best players I've seen have 2 pick ups. Basically one that picks up the sound of the bass itself in another that picks up the clicks on the finger board.

    @wesleystanton are you sure it's not because the strings have to be a bit lighter to do the slaps easier? I literally had to move my original A string to be my E string, compared to the strings I started with, to get a slap going.

    @@seansweeney3532 they’re not that light - steels have quite the tone so I think it’s the mic. If you message me on Facebook at Wes Stanton Bass we can have a more in-depth chat?

    I use D'addario Helicore Orchestral Bass Strings (3/4 Size Medium Tension plus a Matching Low B String) which hold tune better than gut strings & can really take a good plucking, especially since my Upright Bass is a 5 String made by Thomas & George Martin (4/4 Size).

  • @wesleystanton
    @wesleystanton Жыл бұрын

    Which of the three types do you use out of interest? Guts in my experience slip out of tune very frequently - for most of my playing I use Evah Pirazzi lightweight steels which are superb but not quite as playable as a gut for all the fancy stuff.
