    I read the article at least 3 times. My take is close to TYT’s except I really do not believe this happened to her the way she described it. Yes we can all be scammed…..but not like that! She included too many trivial details that just made her look more foolish

  • @AwCrap-Tech
    @AwCrap-Tech18 күн бұрын

    Thanks for your feedback. An interesting perspective, but the fact that she shared trivial details makes it more credible in my opinion. As a journalist she’s expected to share all the details that are part of the story. I know it can sound unbelievable, but having studied these scams and with a close family member who was almost caught in it, they described her story as spot on. One thing that changes how the story is perceived is the fact that hers is a written account which plays out slower than the actual event. But as it’s happening, the scam happens much faster, playing on a sense of urgency and anxiety. Scammers are good at building and maintaining that anxiety. They kept her on the phone, all while making sure she remained anxious. They know that if the victim is able to hang up and think about it they would have time to spot the problems. Even if the author was just trying to get a popular story(I don’t believe), still TYT were wrong to heap shame on a victim. That could be seen by many future victims who believe they have to hide that they fell for a scam that would be embarrassing if it got out.

    I've been using Google for at least 30 years. My concern is how would I now transfer the thousands of files and documents I have stored in Google Drive into Proton, retain my Google bookmarks through Proton, have access to my Google Photos through Proton and replicate my Google Calendar. I am not asking for instructions, just wondering how easy or difficult that transfer will be. Also, I have been told that radical activists who can't afford to be tracked are using Signal for cell phone and text messages. Do you know anything about them? Thanks so much!

  • @AwCrap-Tech

    Very good question! First it doesn’t all have to be done at one time. I still have a gmail email account that I’m phasing out as I can. Proton mail can manage your gmail or outlook mail. And you can easily set up a new proton address and migrate it as you can. Even the free version of the proton apps is very capable. I will be releasing more videos in the future to discuss this. Yes I am familiar with Signal and have it! It’s a very good and secure messaging app. If you want to try it, just get the app and I’m happy to chat with you that way. I also use the free Brave web browser instead of Chrome now. Thanks for the great questions!

    I've used proton for years when I first discovered it, when I was 'paranoid'. The point here, is that, one- all of this news does not come from any trusted sources. Second, protonmail sucks. Once you use it, you will understand what I mean. I don't pay for it and use it as a shell for my life and that is all. Google. Is free. And of course they have our data. So does protonmail, secure or not. just my two cents. so... just to let the 'seniors' being targeted by yet another hack on the internet, I assure you.. you are just fine and there is no need to panic. shame on them for targeting people like this. i'm no politician or lawyer, but I would hope political scientist may find a way to limit the amount of power marketing has for businesses. specifically, the larger ones. Enjoy this day. If you pray, don't worry. If you worry, you are probably not praying.

    I have been using proton mail for some time. I’ve been very happy with it. What problems have you had with it? It isn’t paranoia, but feel it has been be said with emphasis to encourage people to leave the convenience of Google. Using the Proton suite along with Brave as my browser and an app to remove my info from many data warehouses, I see far fewer ads and scams. The scammers are always releasing new scams targeted at seniors, so by reducing their exposure I feel is a good prevention. Thanks for your feedback!

    De-Google your Android if you are using one because your phone conversations are not private. Do not use Google software which includes Chrome, Gmail, KZread, Google Voice, etc. Use a secure and privacy focused browser (Brave, Firefox/Waterfox or SRware Iron) plus at least 1-2 security/privacy related browser extensions like uBlock Origin and Privacy Badger (NoScript if you are really paranoid). If by chance, you are not using WiFi at all then disable it at the Modem. VPN software does help with WiFi sniffers but it doesn't provide any other security which you could accomplish by toughening your Cable Modem/Router configuration. For the most part, average user equates having VPN to great security for browsing and protection for their computer which is hardly the case. If you know what VPN stands for then you would also know it was primarily meant for privacy/private connections. I don't like all these channels promoting VPN software like it is all they need or would actually provide protection against everything malicious. That false sense of protection is actually doing more harm. I have had a bunch of machines I worked on that had active Anti-Virus software and VPN but were still infected badly. Additionally, upgrade your Windows firewall which is neither transparent nor user-friendly. Something like SimpleWall works really well and keeps you informed what is connecting to and from your machine. Ultimately, the user has been, is and will always be the weakest link in their system's/network's security so people who were infected or were hacked need to educate themselves properly and make sure whatever got their machine compromised will no longer be an issue.

    Very good recommendations! I tried NordPass for a while, but I wouldn’t recommend a VPN on its own. Since it’s part of the Proton package I use it and think it’s helpful for public WiFi. Thanks for your feedback!

    Do you have any evidence about them? They are a Swiss company and their software is open-source allowing feedback on their methods. If there’s any verifiable evidence of a security problem I’d like to know. But it seems unlikely, since their encryption algorithm has been analyzed to show that not even they can see your data.

    I changed my emails away from gmail to proton and pay for mail plus. Makes me feel so much happier knowing I've taken some of my data away from google. I tried to move my calendar from google to proton because I use it for work but protons calendar is really buggy and featureless unfortunately i've had to stick with google for my calendar. Maybe one day proton will spend some development money and make their calendar awesome. I switched my browser to brave and mostly use brave search engine with mixed google results. I really only use google search engine now for local business searches as I am in Australia and brave is US biased. I have nord vpn switched on 24/7 nord is so good that it makes me feel it is owned or controlled by the global cult i can't find any dirt on the company or owners and will keep looking.
