The Orwell Foundation

The Orwell Foundation

The Orwell Foundation exists to perpetuate the achievements of the British writer George Orwell (1903-1950). In a relatively brief career, cut short by illness, Orwell wrote six novels, two of which, Animal Farm (1945) and Nineteen Eighty-Four (1949), have had a profound influence on the post-war world. As well as believing in the moral power of language, Orwell understood the dangers that accompany its corruption. His work transcends the circumstances in which it was conceived and is uniquely relevant to the social, political and economic landscapes of the twenty-first century. Whether through the prestigious Orwell Prizes for political writing or our growing programme of events, lectures and publications, our aim is to connect with the different constituencies to whom Orwell and his writings are a source of inspiration, from policy-makers and politicians to students and schoolchildren, and to offer a platform for debate and discussion for widest possible public audience.

    I found Wigan Pier taught me more than the others. We still live in the shadow of WW1, Leninism, and the collapse of the British Empire. Wigan Pier is full of humour and winks to your better nature.

    Last year a woman who lives in my neighbourhood near downtown Montreal shows me a 1st edition of 1984 that she found in someone's belongings. I immediately was thrilled to have it in my hands and wondered if she would let me read it. Sadly, the only thing of concern for her was not reading it but how much she could get for it. I never saw it again.

    This is the essay I have read at this time every year since I discovered it in the closing years of last century. It reminds me of the importance of nature and the need to resist tyranny. Orwell at his insightful, illustrative and inspiring best. The mention of 'lockdown' in the notes is fitting. The single, most criminal act ever perpetrated. There was no tentative emergence from lockdown for me because I never locked-down. I never wore a mask and have not had any of the experimental mRNA injections.

    ZERO, Co 2 a trace gas, statistically it's amt is so small you'd be correct to say there is none in our atmosphere. The oceans produce nearly all of that trace (0.00036 by vol) Amt. If it were a planet warmer, logic would dictate you'd look there first. But no one looks there at all. Nope it's solely man and cow farts responsible, even though we produce trace amts of the tiny trace amt. What then should become apparent is this ain't about global warming. It's paidfor political propaganda, seeking more taxes, wealth re-distribution and liberties lost. Tipping buckets, heating jars, phoney factoid charts are all war ning signs of the rabid fraud contained in all these political paid for productions. Why would anyone use such presentations like tippy shit, hot jars and these phoney charts? If it's global warming let's compare worlds. One with nearly 100% co2 atmosphere, say Mars . Certainly th is will make warming predictions easy as pie, no need to be wrong 100% of the time, like now. Mars well It's over heated to -80 to -200 on average. Toasty. If were at a " tipping pt " it's we're about to wipe out all plant life by starving them of their life sustaining co2. So that a few politicians have trillions to spend and more control of your life

    George hinted towards the beginning about agriculture, but didn’t drive the point home. It’s animal agriculture that’s the problem. It uses 83% of ag land. We could easily rewild, save water, stop ecosystem destruction and habitat loss, species extinction, etc., if we all chose to adopt, to the greatest extent possible, a plant based diet, preferably 100%. Everyone in the audience, if they are serious about wanting to do something, could do that today, right now. Everything else is just inspiring babble and possibility pontification.

  • @davidhilderman
    @davidhilderman10 ай бұрын

    The ag land used is not arable. You can't use 90% of land used for grazing animals for crops. This is why that land is used for cattle. Find yourself a cattle rancher and learn a few things. No cattle rancher in Canada would put cattle on pasture land that could be tilled for wheat.

  • @hooliorama
    @hooliorama8 ай бұрын

    In South-West Ontario, some of the best Ag land in the world, 70% of all grain grown goes to animal feed. Globally, 30% of Ag land is not suitable for anything other than pasture (but presumably could be reverted to the wild.)
