The best thing about the timelines part, is that rick would not die, he was not dying of lack of oxygen meaning the place where he was made no sense and that he couldn't die, he was both dead and alive like the cats of schrodinger, until someone opened the box which would never happen ofc, so he was never gonna die and just stay there for eternity until he went insane and stopped thinking, so he chose to save morty and suffer for eternity instead of saving himself, he truly is the rickest rick

Rick definitely cares about Morty, Summer and Beth (and maybe a polite tolerance towards Jerry if Jerry behaves), he just doesn’t always understand how to express it even if he wants to. The fact that we only see bits of seasons one and two helps to back this up as Rick and Morty hasn’t been made into a shell of its former self yet unlike another cartoon (coughs twice into fist) FAIRLY ODD PARENTS! It must be so heart breaking to be Rick. Imagine your own self kills everything that you love, so you have to go HIS universe to see your own daughter all grown up, but traumatized by what the other Rick did to her, meanwhile she thinks you’re the same person. Then you see this little rascal that was SUPPOSED to be your grandson, and you quickly grow to have all the love in the world for him, but he’s not actually YOURS, just a descendant of another version of you. You have everything you ever wanted right there in front of you, but it’s not actually yours, and it’s all “YOUR” fault ☠️
