    I heard that he lost because he was a bit distracted from finding out that Alex Trebek had been diagnosed with cancer and that threw his game off a little. I believe this is the first episode they taped after Alex shared his diagnosis with the world.(Remember the episodes are taped weeks before being aired) If you'll notice, James is wearing a cancer ribbon pinned to his shirt and during the contestant interview part of the show, James gave Alex a get well card that his 4 year old daughter made for him(Alex).

    Finding out that the host of the show you’ve been on for while has advanced cancer can throw your game off a little and he wasn’t his usual game playing self. I doubt that he threw the game because he wouldn’t when he was so close to breaking Ken Jennings’ record for most money won on regular Jeopardy!.

    It's ridiculous that when Ken Jennings lost, Alex dedicated a lot of on air time celebrating his run. Whereas James didn't win 74 games, he won enough to get equal on air time for his efforts. Congratulations to everyone who competes on Jeopardy and especially long winning streaks. Let's make Alex proud!!!

    Not for the last time, because people still can't do math, but here we go. What has to be realized is that there is NO way of James winning if Emma gets the question right. She's not going to bet any less than 20,201 dollars, because if James bets it all, and gets the answer correct, she'll win by a dollar. If she bets less than 20,201 dollars, there's a chance James will win if he gets the answer correct and bets huge. She's not going to risk that. However... an alternate universe where Emma gets it wrong, this is what happens when James follows all the people who can't do freaking math...LOL. Emma bets 20, 201 dollars (since she has to assume that James is going to bet it all), and she gets the question wrong. She is now left with 6399 dollars. James bets 17,000 dollars. If he gets the answer right? He'll end up with 40,400 dollars. Sweet!!! If he gets it wrong, he'll end up with 6400 dollars and will beat Emma! Sweet!!! NOT SWEET!! LOL. Because the other guy has 11,000 dollars!!!! If James bets 17,000 dollars, and gets the answer wrong, he's going to be left with 6400. As Jay has 11K, he can easily end up being the new champion by betting nothing, or betting any amount and getting the answer right. All because James follows the advice of the people saying he should bet big. LOL. However James isn't a complete idiot, even in this alternate universe...he realizes that he has to wager based on worst case scenario. No point in betting all, because if Emma bets the correct amount, she's going to win anyway. Why lose 17,000 if you'll just make it easy for the other guy to win *if you get the question wrong* ? Nope. The correct bet is to bet what he did...1399 dollars. Emma gets the question wrong, he'll beat her. If the other guy gets the answer right, he'll have 22K. Even if James gets the question wrong, he'll still end up winning.

    The strategy is sound but also risky as the woman could have implemented the same strategy to lock james out. For instance, if she anticipated this, she could have bet 0. Naturally, given his procilivities, she may have assumed a large bet but in this instance, she assumed he would bet it all and hedged against that. Great play by james but not a genius move or anything

    It’s upsetting that a contestant like James made a simple wagering mistake. He had to wager enough to cover the leader to ensure he’d have more than her if she missed,

  • @willoughbykrenzteinburg
    @willoughbykrenzteinburg3 жыл бұрын

    You are mistaken. James always needed the woman in first place to answer incorrectly in order to win. Whether he gets the question right or wrong is irrelevant. He could have wagered any amount, and the woman would have still won because he knew she would wager enough to beat James even if he doubled up. If James wagered any more than $1,399, then he would likely need BOTH other contestants to answer incorrectly. There is no scenario where James wins if the woman answers correctly - so she needs to answer incorrectly. If she answers incorrectly, she would have wagered enough to drop her down well below where James was, so his only concern is to wager to beat the third place contestant hoping the first place contestant answers wrong. He wagered perfectly. No mistake was made. He gave himself the absolutely best statistical chance of winning with a wager of exactly $1,399.

She beat him in one of the games in the finals of the tournament of champions as well. Emma was the better player this day, plain and simple. Most underrated champion of all time.

    They cheated him out of this game. Jeopardy was losing a fortune and they stepped in. Like since when does James bet small amounts. The whole thing is just so suspicious

  • @psychickumquat
    @psychickumquat3 жыл бұрын

    This has been disproven time and again. James predicted Emma would bet to reach $1 over his score to lock a win - which was correct. His own bet was just low enough to ensure him 2nd place if he lost, putting him at $1 over the third player's maximum total. He could only really win if Emma missed, which she didn't. It was frankly a brilliant strategy given the circumstances. As for "being rigged", there's no evidence for this. Emma was an extremely strong player in her own right, even beating James again in a later game. As for being rigged against James, there are so many rules and regulations over game shows that any conspiracy to take James out would have been rooted out extremely fast. Not to mention Sony would have only benefitted from James continuing to win with all the hype it generated around the game. Giants fall, it just happens. Ken Jennings eventually fell on a wrong Final Jeopardy answer. In this case, James encountered bad luck and a tough opponent.
