Florida Beach Walks

Florida Beach Walks

Sand between my toes & a verse in my heart! Let's walk the beach together! I love shelling Florida-residing on the central east coast.

I can’t hit the beach obsessively like I used to (surprise baby); so for now, why not relive some of my loved beach experiences and invite you along with me! I absolutely LOVE shelling, glassing, sunrises and sunsets, wildlife, learning more about nature-all of it! There is such beauty at the beach and in beautiful shells, that all point to our brilliant Creator.

“But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In His hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind. (Job 12:7-10)"

Please subscribe if you'd like to join me on Florida beach walks! Thank you and blessings always!

    I give some away, I’ve set some aside for future projects and perhaps selling. Display them around the house & in my garden. Sometimes I return them back to the ocean. 🐚🌊☀️

    Hi Roxann 👋🏻 Lovely trip to Kice Island with friends and family! The Alphabet Cone, Rose Murex and Horse Conches are just stunning 🤩 at 17:12 there is a paper fig to the right of the Angel Wing that I was hoping to look at too, but maybe you saw that it was broken? The favourite is the darker coloured Coloureful Moon Snail from Dickmans, that was fabulous. Oh, I liked learning how long those sand dollars can live for; I don’t know how long any of the sea snails here can live for...I think it’s not something that much scientific study has been devoted to? Anyway, I loved seeing your trip, thank you for sharing it ❤️

    Hey Maddie! Ahhhh don’t think I saw that paper fig! There is so much to look at and then watch what I’m recording too-you know how that goes 🙃 But it’s fun shelling for the 2nd time watching the playbacks lol-unless I passed something really special ahaahhhhh!!!! Some of my shelling books have some neat facts about these critters and I try to share what I can-helps me to learn myself about these fabulous treasures! That moon was spectacular nice and dark 😍 Thx for watching and commenting ❤️☀️

    Where did you put your kayak out? I have a young daughter and am a beginner kayaker! So I’m afraid to try this. But if I can launch kinda close I might be able to do it with her. Love your videos and you have the prettiest smile!

    Hello and oh my goodness thank you! There is only one place close to publicly launch from to kayak to Dickmans (easy paddle, you guys could do it!) and/or Kice (Kice is farther and more difficult to paddle to, chop can come on fast- I’ve had friends capsize in their kayak once coming back from Kice) the public launch park is “Caxambas Park & Marina” BUT they are currently closed I heard from my friend in Fort Myers and will be for the next couple of years they say. It’s getting rebuilt after Ian-they “just” now started to rebuild. This “total” park closure is just recent-they “were” open after Ian for only non-motor boat launches (because the docks were all messed up they didn’t allow motorboats). The only other public launch place is Goodland (you can’t kayak from there to Kice. It would take over 4hrs (I had a friend that’s done that). That type of paddle trip is for the wilderness expert paddler that camps- not me lol 🥲 When Caxambas was “normally” operating they do have private companies you can rent kayaks right there in the parking lot. The tour boats use Goodland for now. I had a viewer comment they took a Wilbur out to Kice and loved it-not rushed like you can feel on a tour. I’ll have to check into that myself 👍🏼 Hope this helps. I can’t wait till Caxambas is open again. You can see Dickmans right from the launch area at Caxambas 🌊☀️🐚

    how did you know about the dredge pile? how would I find one? thank you

  • @FloridaBeachWalks
    @FloridaBeachWalks2 күн бұрын

    Facebook shelling groups and I just Google “current Florida dredge or beach renourishment projects”. Some, I just drove by to see if there are open piles (usually not; they are closed and guarded). I’ve even asked the guards right there on the job about the current project and future projects-most are nice but some will not even give you the time of day. This Palm Beach pile I had messaged someone on Facebook after seeing there shelling post and they were nice enough to tell me about it-it was a month after they had been shelling the public pile. People are tight lipped about it-and I get that 👍🏼

    Just came across your channel, and I love it! Nice job of editing and narrating, and your arrangement of shells at the end was just spectacular. Dickman's seems pretty close to Marco... how long did it take you to kayak out there? We're hoping to move to SW FL in a few years, and I'm gathering intel!

  • @FloridaBeachWalks
    @FloridaBeachWalks6 күн бұрын

    Ah! Glad you found the channel and happy you are enjoying these beach walks! Thx for taking the time to comment. Dickman's is very close to Marco Island. If that intel wasn't so powerful you could swim over to it from the tip of Marco Island. There is only one place to publicly launch from to kayak to Dickmans and/or Kice (Kice is farther and more difficult than Dickmans to paddle to - I’ve had friends capsize in their kayak once coming back from Kice) the public launch park is “Caxambas Park & Marina” BUT they are currently closed I heard from my friend in Fort Myers and will be for the next couple of years they say. This “total” park closure is just recent-they “were” open after Ian for only non-motor boat launches (because the docks were all messed up they didn’t allow motorboats). From Caxambas to Dickmans kayak is only like 15 minutes (give or take depending if you are single or double and water conditions). It's not far at all. Hope you get the chance. When Caxambas is back open it'll be new and awesome! Have fun!

    I have been meaning to ask you where did you find the location that allowed public to go to the dredging disposal site?

  • @FloridaBeachWalks
    @FloridaBeachWalks6 күн бұрын

    Oh sure, in all the piles I've found it's been word of mouth or shelling groups on Facebook and also, I've just driven by to check out the dredging project that I find online. If you google army corps of engineers dredging projects a lot of links pop up. SO many don't let the public shell in their piles so it's so nice when they do but it's not often anymore due to liability I'm assuming. I've heard "back in the day" they didn't even restrict those piles you could just walk right up and shell --- ohhh what fun that would be...these days is a different story they have guards and everything around those piles. 😭

My friend Shilei has found some stunning roses by patiently doing that 👍🏼 If you wanted to see the roses she has collected from Kice here is a link to her Etsy store to see them-all in her shop were mostly from Kice : www.etsy.com/shop/ShileiTreasures?ref=shop-header-name&listing_id=1595250103&from_page=listing Take care and “happy shelling” thx SO much for watching!

    Hahaha, you cracked me up with “We’ve got a glower!” Oh gosh, those Striate Bubbles are sooo nice! Yes, I think that whatever mineral makes these shells glow must be in their top-most layer? For my own shells, a slightly worn away one had a patchy glow compared to a glossy one. Your Trivias are too, but what surprised me the most was the Lion’s Paw and the shark teeth 🤩 I didn’t think to shine a UV light on the back of my Lion’s Paws, so I’ll have to do that tonight 🐚 and goodness, those fossilised teeth are just amazing with that orange colour. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful video 🙏🏻

  • @FloridaBeachWalks
    @FloridaBeachWalks16 күн бұрын

    🤣 I was very surprised that one glowed! Yeah, you are right, something in that top layer must be the reactor and then you do have the fossils that glow like in that guys video with the fossilized Junonia (that was amazing!). The yellow cowries were worn down but the edges were not so warn off and they glowed. So something with that shine composition glows, but my shiny olives didn't glow so its shiny layer has a different makeup I guess. Something to look deeper into maybe. I found a couple shells "after the fact" that glowed too so I might do another video later--want to see if I can get a hold of some fossil shells 1st then maybe do another video down the line 👍🏼
