Forgive me ignorance, but does 24" spacing mean the walls are thus more than two-feet thick?

Video showing how this rock easily “snaps” is misleading. Because these are two separate layers of the sheet rock first one after scoring snaps evenly and easily, but the second one is uneven and requires another scoring to smooth it out.

Should the 5/8" Quietrock be installed vertically or horizontally or does it not matter? If I want to reduce the noise coming into a room, should the Quietrock be on the exterior wall?
@jonathanedelmann5423 Жыл бұрын
you should always go across your studs. not with them... for many reasons. plus stand ups create more linear footage when spackling. but if its screwed and glued to code it doesn't matter technically which way you hang them.

Does this work on the ceiling to reduce noise coming from unit above in a wood frame house?
@SilverMike6702 жыл бұрын
Footfall noise is difficult to treat and to really treat it effectively you need to address the floor side of the assembly. If that is not possible, the next best option is using a RSIC clip system with Drywall rated for ceiling applications.

I see how it reduces noise transmission, but how does it improve the acoustics of the room. Is there a video that shows this?
@SilverMike6702 жыл бұрын
The QuietRock products focus on Sound Transmission reduction and do not change the acoustic quality or echo of the room. It will perform just like any drywall surfaced products in that regard.

What is the STC of the system?
@SilverMike6702 жыл бұрын
This particular wall was constructed with 33 mil steel studs spaced 24" o.c., with 3-1/2 R-13 insulation. QuietRock EasySnap on one side and 5/8" type X drywall is on the back. This will achieve an STC 51 (PGD-33-573-24, NOAL 18-0510) . Results can vary with different stud thicknesses and spacing. Generally thinner steel is better and 24" o.c. spacing is better than 16" o.c. for sound control. heck out our Assembly Tool for other results. www.quietrock.com/tools/assembly-tool

If I attach it to existing sheet rock how many decibels caused by base will this reduce?
@SilverMike6702 жыл бұрын
The incremental sound reduction from adding an additional layer of QuietRock to an existing wall will vary depending upon all the other existing factors of your existing wall. Likely you have a standard 2x4 stud wall with 1/2 drywall on either side, with insulation that wall is probably STC 34 (PGD-W-419-16 tested with insulation). Adding a layer of 1/2" QuietRock 510 to that assembly will achieve STC 41 (PGD-W-648-16) without insulation you will likely lose approx 1 point, but using 5/8 QR ES in place of 510 will likely achieve better results. I currently do not have a test for that particular assembly.

You can replace the fiberglass insulation for Rockwool insulation which is for sound and fire resistance, cost more tho…added sound dampening

I'm looking into this for an unfinished, 1940s garage with 2x4, 16" OC construction to assist in reducing the noise from woodworking power tools. I know QuietRock works better with 24" spacing. Would adding something like Rockwool Sound Insulation assist in noise helping noise reduction in 16" spacing? Or would the QuietRock negate any benefit from the Rockwool? Thanks!

so for your product to work best you really want 24" OC spacing I see. But it still works decent with 16" OC?
@PABCOGypsum4 жыл бұрын
In general, walls constructed using 24" OC stud spacing will have better STC ratings out of the gate compared walls built at 16" OC. QuietRock performs well on 16" OC construction but even better on 24" OC.
