Hey there! My name is Kait and I help people take their productivity and organization to the next level with expert-level educational content.

I cover mostly different time management systems, productivity books, software and other products.

I'll also get into business and freelance topics. The more autonomy you have in your work, the more important having some knowledge in productivity becomes. So I think these two areas are related.

You may also find some vlogs and home organization videos among my older videos.

I'm a mother-of-two and software founder. My company, Simply Digital, makes Simply Goals & Tasks a task management Android app. I've recently moved to the Swiss Alps. But before then I was in Rome Italy, San Francisco California, Boston, and New Jersey.

Thanks for visiting my channel :)

    The Franklin Covey 'system' isn't really a system but a bastardized combination of the FranklinQuest system (stolen from Charles Hobbs' 'Time Power') with its daily A-B-C prioritization and the Covey '7 Habits' weekly planning system from when the two companies merged (word is that Covey's business didn't run too great). They shoehorned some elements of Covey's system into the Franklin Planner (that is itself a copy of the Day-Planner), making up for a really weird combination.

    So what I don’t get is how tasks that must be done (housework, meal planning, lesson planning, etc) are related to my values?? I mean, values or not, some things have to get done to stay afloat or to not lose one’s job,mor to not end up as a train wreck, right?

  • @kait-hanrahan
    @kait-hanrahan11 күн бұрын

    Sure! So a lot of those sound like the underlying value is providing for your family. You might go to a job you enjoy because Career is a value. Or a job you don't enjoy for Responsibility, or Financial Stability. The meal planning could be for Health/Nutrition or for Parenting/Family. Personally, I always do the bare minimum housework because providing a safe home for my children is a top ranked Value for me (Family). And then I do more and try to make our home pretty because having a home I'm proud of is also a value for me, just a lower ranked one (Beauty). Here's more info on values: blog.franklinplanner.com/ben-franklins-planning-method/ You could connect this also to the Hierarchy of Needs -- you know, first we have to make sure we have basic needs like food and shelter, then things like relationships, and at the top is meaning and creativity. That hierarchy lines up pretty well with how I order my Values. I mention the Hierarchy of Needs in my next video (will be up Friday) which is about switching back and forth between survival mode and growth mode. Hope to see you there :)

    I know... I've really struggled with audio quality since moving into my home office. This video I tried some different settings and it was actually much worse. But, what can ya do? I didn't realize until it was too late. Believe it or not, I do actually have a high quality mic on a boom stand and have consulted with Ali Abdaal's editor on a few occasions to troubleshoot why it's still so bad. I've tried different mic set ups. Only thing left to try is to spray foam the whole office -- but it's a rental haha

    Covey is pronounced KUH-vey. 🙂 There’s also another step before identifying values and goals - developing your life mission statement. The values and goals flow from that. Franklin has a mission statement builder on their websites and in their Starter Kit inserts, and in their books.

    I know! I've bough so much audio gear trying to fix this. Even spent some time on the phone with an expert. My newer videos I brought the boom in frame with the mic an inch from my mouth; that's a little better. I think I'll have to sound insulate the office walls. But that project needs buy-in from my other half :)

    For the going to bed early part: chronotype plays a big role if people want to/can get up early in the morning. Also, where people are in a timezone, the practicality is affected. 6am in Switzerland is much easier than here in Belgium, closer to the other edge of the European timezone. Simply, the whole daily sun cycle is shifted 1-1.5h later during the day. What do you think about these? And great video with good tips, nice b-rolls and text, I liked it! 🙂 For chapter links, add 0:00, so it shows up as chapters in the video, too.

  • @kait-hanrahan
    @kait-hanrahan3 ай бұрын

    Thanks for the chapter tip and complements 💜! I agree, doesn't have to be 6am. I think the important thing is consistency (not military level 100%, but most the time). I meant 6am more like an "If you want to get up early, 6 is still early but more doable to be consistent". There's a lot of hype for 4am and 5am morning routines, and I don't see how someone can do that consistently unless they just never have a late night out. But point is -- I agree 100%: try to be consistent with a time that makes sense for your life. Also southern Europe you could add to your examples where 6 am doesn't make much sense. Restaurants open for dinner at 8:30 pm in Italy. So assuming your not giving up restaurants, a later wake up time will keep the adjustment the next day more doable. I like Switzerland's 6pm dinner standard better than Italy's 😂

We have a shoe tray that slides under other entry furniture. When I moved to Italy 14 years ago, these things were everywhere and the smell was what really turned me off from them 😂 But totally agree -- if planned out they can work! But if purchased spontaneously, I think it is likely to be a regretted purchase (hence making the list). I'm glad they work for you! 💜

    Thank you for this very informative video! I am using this time management technique daily just not in recommended cycles of 4 pomodoros+longer brake. I simply plan how productive I wish to be ( by drawing in my planner few little circles representing 25 min pomodoros) at the beginning of the day and treat pomodoros-○○○○○... as a "focus 25 min buckets" of time (any time I can work on them). Sometimes I plan 25 min rest time and treat it as productive pomodoro:) It feels so good seeing those little circles filled in at the end of the day and putting the number pomodoros finished in my monthly planner . Sometimes I add all those numbers at the end of the month. Very motivating for the next month! I loved the pomodoro technique original book but also recommend reading book- 'Pomodoro technique illustrated ' by Staffan Noteberg.

    Great info and great tips. But, please invest in a decent microphone. The room reverb (and possibly high levels of audio compression) is just bad enough to make it a little tricky to follow every word clearly. Consider also ‘audio treatment’ for a specific room that you film most often in. With longer videos, the audio quality might actually discourage some viewers from watching the full video, which might, in turn, be limiting the reach of your videos - and that would be a shame because the content seems interesting and useful.

  • @kait-hanrahan

    @@kait-hanrahan All good. Want to say again - great video. It’s the kind of detail that, as you say, is often missing. Exactly the kind of detail you wouldn’t think to check in the store (because you’d just assume the designers had accounted for those things), but which would bug me continually once home and installed. 👍 I’ve got plans for a 3m or 3.6m run of low hung Besta cupboards, same doors. My problem is that I really want a single top piece, possibly with matching sides/end-pieces, so that’s going to be ‘fun’ to source. 😉

  • @kait-hanrahan
    @kait-hanrahan7 ай бұрын

    You want the top to match the doors? I think the color you can match easy enough (I would literally bring a drawer front to the store when picking stain). But if you mean exactly match, so the chevron pattern, too -- that will be tricky! I don't know how you'll get real wood to match the "printed" wood. You could buy extra doors to cut and glue together to form a long top board (sounds like a PIA, tho). I would personally go for a contrasting stain (like white, grey, or a color). A color could be fun. If you get sick of it, you just have to replace (or repaint) that one piece of wood. Thanks for encouraging words! And double thanks for commenting 🥰

  • @akastewart
    @akastewart7 ай бұрын

    @@kait-hanrahan Thankfully, I’m not enough of a masochist to try to match the doors. Most likely I’ll go with a simpler, all-white top, so it’s more of a budget and finish thing, than a problem sourcing the wood to-size. I’m toying with the idea of using the single large top in place of the unit built-in tops (so all the units share the same single, long top piece). This means no gaps along the top, but also that the doors would still close flush with the top of the overall unit, to give it a slick finish. Not sure if that will end up being too much of a pain to get done or more costly than it’s worth. I’m still at the ideas stage, and knowing me, I’ll have a completely different plan next week. 👍

  • @jlammetje
    @jlammetje4 ай бұрын

    @@akastewart that would mean having to cut off a little bit of the sides of all the units, which sounds like quite some work. Wouldn't it be much simpler to put a piece on top of the cabinets, and make it jut out a bit in the front to align with the doors? If you do the same all around, the doors will be "inset", but the diy is quite simple to do.
