    David, thank you for another very practical video. I am envious of your short, powerful backswing. I'd appreciate any tips on how to shorten the backswing while keeping club speed. I have a constant battle with arm overrun.

    Thanks David, nice easy explanation of the the pre shot routine. Saw an interesting one in the Scottish open with one of the Europeans doing a strange move to give his body a feeling of clearing his left side. Was strange, but worked for him. I watched the 2007 England France rugby world cup semi final on a big screen under the Eiffel Tower and Wilkinson did it again. Field goal to win by a point. Thanks for the instruction, really enjoying it.

    Love the series but most 18 hcap like myself are often trying to par the hole not play for safe bogey and will string 2, 3 4 or 5 good shots before a bad one arrives to undo the good work.

    There can be a lot of reasons why a person may not be able to accomplish this, not the least of which relates to some mechanical swing issue. Continued attempts won't magically fix that. So, at what point do you look for professional help to get a more consistent swing, etc.?

    Good video on how to drop the ego too and play with in your true means. Only issue I see is that a lot of golfers even those who score around 90-95 will chunk a number of shots and get in real trouble or the lie is in deep rough or any other real nasty situation that makes them frustrated if that happens a number of times. Now their trying to do those small % shots. But your advice is what most should do if they can drop the eog. I know golfer who think "If I can only find the right clubs that work for me and my swing" Instead of practicing a few times/wk to get better contact. A buddy of mine must have 50 clubs at home hoping some of them are the answer to his contact issues. 😃

    Very very sensible advice. I would say though, that this course does not seem to have many hazards. No rough or bunkers in sight. If I missed the fairway as he did on the par 5 I would be up to my shins in rough searching for it!

    The course has water on holes 3 and 6, and every hole is on quite a severe slope which is its main defense. The holes I used (7,8 and 9)are on the slopes, and bunkers around the par 3, a decent challenge

    Great demonstration that experts don't play swashbuckling golf. Even Phil Mickleson didn't gamble all that much. He played the odds. He'd just developed such incredible touch with his short game over many years of daily practice that he had very tight tolerances on his shots, especially his short game shots. So the average TV or gallery viewer thinks he's playing chancy, gambling golf, going for really tight pin placements and such. But he's not. He's playing the percentages. It's just that his are very very tight, at least on the days that he's on and playing well. On the days he isn't, we don't see him on TV. :) Scratch golfers aren't championship level touring pros. They are trying to shoot level par, and given that their scratch handicap index is the average of their best 40% of their scores, they probably don't quite shoot level par on average. So they are going for mostly pars, with the occasional birdie to offset the occasional bogey, and trying to avoid blowup holes altogether. It's kind of like those of us trying to shoot 90 or better by stringing together lots of bogeys, with just a few pars offsetting the occasional double, and trying to avoid the really big numbers that plague us. Same principle. Just a higher level of skill for the scratch golfer.

    love this guy, he's a stat driven coach. facts speak for themselves. Wanna shoot par? NO penalty strokes...NO bad decisions...No mishits...NO 3 putts.. and the one completely out of your control: NO BAD BREAKS. If stats were kept on just those, it would surprise even the pros. All these together are why I'm a 20 HC.

    Excellent demonstration of playing within yourself.. most of us want to play our best shots every time, end up playing our worst, and bearing the consequences of that, compounds the errors! If you start by just getting your tee shot on the fairway, you're already in good shape for the hole, and vice versa!

This is one of the best explainations of chipping I've seen. And works with so many clubs depending on distance and obstacles.

    You played three relatively straight holes. On my home course there are a few holes that really eat me up! One is a double dog leg. Tee shot: trouble left and right but you need some distance to get in good position for second shot. Also, if you hit it better than average, you have a downhill sidehill lie for second. Second shot you need some distance also if you want to have a chance to clear the creek in front of the green. Sometimes you have to lay up if you have anything much more than 150 yards. Trouble left, right, and short. The easy-peasy style you're showing may not get you where you need to be. Par 5. My typical score is 7-8. Sometimes worse. Hardly a level lie for the entirety of the hole. So, although I like your approach, it won't work for every hole.

  • @TheResourcefulCoach
    @TheResourcefulCoach8 күн бұрын

    The 3 holes have their different challenges, which the camera may not show. The Par 5 is a double dogleg, first it gradually moves right to left, and then a right angle dogleg to the right. The second shot is a downhill hanging lie with the ball above your feet. The Par 3 is a straight 200 yarder The Par 4 has a 5-6 degree slope from left to right, which is why the ball rolled into the edge of the trees. The great thing with golf is every hole has its own challenges, which is why I love this game.

    This style of play leaves no room for errors. My problem is fat/thins and shanks. So that adds a few more strokes and I end up shooting in The high 90s to low 100s. If you are a consistent ball striker this is a great way to play.

    Here's the problem: you're hitting every shot how you want to. Anyone can make a bogey and an occassional par doing that - the issue with most 18 handicapers is they flub shots that cost them strokes at least every few holes. I'm a 12 and play with lots of 18s and if we didn't have bad shots/penalty shots we'd all be several strokes better.

    Pretty easy for a 2 or 3 handicapper to club down to hit the ball like a 20 handicapper. But 18-20 'cappers don't hit 10 good shots in a row ( i can vouch for that..) One fat shot that goes 20 yds on the par five , plus one skulled chip and your bogey turns into snow-guy...

  • @joeljohnston7156

    When you expect to bogey a hole, you will bogey a hole. Generally hit the club that will carry you to the back of the green. A miss hit will probably get you on the green. One thing that has really helped with chipping is to put most of my weight on the front foot. Stand close to the ball with the toe of the club on the ground. Start with the next to the most lofted club and chip 10 balls to an open spot on a flat green. My average was 14 yards. My G club was 19. My pitching wedge was 25. 9 iron 32. 8 about 39. All with the same swing. Up hill a little shorter, down hill longer. On a faster green, it may be 16 and 22, so I adjust. The point is if the pin is 15 yards, 54 degree club for me. My up and down has really improved with the “ same swing” you just have to trust it. Practice it and you instantly know distance.
