  • @Julia68yt

    No, they "end up" having several self-written, largely self-produced Top10 albums, several sold-out tours with their live rock band, getting unexpected phone calls from the producers of a original top WestEnd show whether they're interested in taking on a very demanding lead role, getting nothing but 5 star reviews from professional theatre citics, being awarded best WestEnd debut, continuing to write & tour yet another album whose studio release will follow soon. The real joke are the blinkered expertly music pundits who can't see past what is dangled in front of their faces by massively overhyped % overpromoted shows and charts and labels who cry about how much money they're bleeding.

Perhaps Ben is helping him find justice that eluded Alan Turing during his life . I know he has changed his legacy .

    +spsanusha Can't believe this is happening - I just heard it! And it's better than I hoped it would be. Phenomenal talent! You can even hear the irony in his "Yes, sir, Daddy!" He is utterly enjoying the whole affair - seems like Beverley Knight has an exceptionally developed sixth sense.

    I so sincere hope West End will find a way to record the whole thing. The musical is so impressive and breathtaking. I would immediately preorder three of them. They were so right to invite Matt to take over the role from Killian Donnelly. Did they really expect him to be that impressive?!

    spsanusha I have no words! Well, actually I have... This performance of "Memphis lives in me" is _nothing_ compared to what it sounds like when he does it in context, i.e. coming off of an absolutely heart-wrenching scene. OMG!!! Plus, his acting is actually pretty darn good. I thought I wouldn't enjoy the 2nd act because the tone isn't as light as in the first one. But, oh boy, watching those scenes, I almost forgot it actually was a play. Talk about chemistry! The theatre was so quiet one could've heard a pin drop, I swear. No rustling, coughing or snickering like you get when the audience is cringing at a badly executed scene. It felt totally real. Hocka-f*ing-doo!

    ***** THANK YOU! How would I love to see him! Everybody's heart must be breaking for him. He has an ability to stir and evoke emotions like nobody else and he actually goes to all these dark places the lyrics take him ... he must be dog-tired by the end. May I please ask: does he use only his marvelous lower register throughout the whole run or does he give an audience a glimpse of his dazzling falsetto as well? I've got notification of your message via email and all it said was "I have no words" - I almost cried - I thought it was all you have to say! Thank you again for your comments. Acting skills were unexpected surprise even if his disclaimers before songs are always joy in itself. I have a video of "Memphis" and cowardly skip couple of scenes in the 2nd act - especially "desperate kiss on air" - and being submersed in the show these scenes must be especially soul ripping. Still can't understand how they make such an organic transfer to an optimistic finale. Gosh, my only chance to see him in the role seams to be a possible translation of BBC Proms in the Park or if some kind sole will record it. Very happy for you :)

    ***** Oh, I should have been more explicit. Thank you for your reply, but I went through all the existing versions by now (I know it sounds a bit pathetic). What I meant was: if there is a difference between MC's performance of this song in the West End Life and real show on the stage of The Shaftesbury Theatre. I think there might have been. When he sings it in context of the narrative, the story might have provoked a slightly different emotions or a tone change?

    Deniz Kiziler Matt didn't expect to do musicals anytime soon either. But Beverly Knight gave him a call :) Watch his interview on "This Morning" here: [ yyEA6UVnjpM ] And about how the acting and dancing went ... read my previous comment quoting Joe DiPietro.

  • @Julia68yt
    @Julia68yt9 жыл бұрын

    Joe DiPietro (the writer of "Memphis") wrote on his fb page: ::: When you're the author of a musical, perhaps the scariest words that can ever come out of producer's mouth are "we've cast a pop star with no acting experience as the lead in your show." Matt Cardle, who won Britain's "X Factor" (which is like "American Idol," but British, and with an X or something, I don't really know,) made his stage debut last night in the mammoth role of Huey Calhoun in "Memphis" on the West End. He was, in a word, fantastic --passionate and compelling and quirky and honest. He was also funny as hell. And sang the bejesus out of the score. Much congrats to a young, talented man who clearly worked his tail off to get to such a thrilling place. :::

    I'm wondering how long he has been rehearsing the show and if it is influencing the writing of album #4. He has always been soulful and heavily influenced by the blues, but Higher Power and Hallelujah seem especially in that direction.

  • @spsanusha
    @spsanusha9 жыл бұрын

    nuimaleko7 I was curios too. Everything indicated that the new album is ready and will be out in spring, but lately MC stated that he is half way though it (if he is not being humble himself). So, in all likelihood, something happen that made him to rethink the direction of the album.

  • @nuimaleko7

    He stated that Hallelujah, Higher Power and Don't Hold Back are quite new, written just weeks ago. He has said that album 4 will be out in October, I guess just as he completes his run in Memphis and just in time for the holidays.
