The bonus tip is don't buy exspired film if you know it comes from a topical place. It degrades faster when its in hotter climates.

nice review, would have liked to see also how they perform with the flash in daylight/artficial light since heard the Nikon has a weak flash no idea about the Yashica though, in terms of size the Yashica is defo a more pocket friendly only costs 2-3 times more than the Nikon ..still undecided bcz of the flash issue

hello fellow canadian! great video and great camera! completely agree on your thoughts regarding the shooting experience and range finder usage. while i also see where you're coming from with regards to the dislikes, i personally find those 2 things actually quite enjoyable and unique to the M2. The film loading is such a unique experience and i cherish the time i need to change films because it's a little moment of indulgence where you do something very mechanical and hands on for a few minutes. as for the rewind knob, while sure it's not very fast but it's incredibly gratifying to twist that knob. it's almost like a lil fidget toy when it's all the way down i love turning it. and having using other M systems with the quick rewind lever, let me absolutely guarantee you that this is WAY BETTER! trust me. perhaps the only better rewind level on any M body camera is the M5, the rest feel much cheaper and more annoying to use and are a common weak/failure point having used the coveted M6 briefly before owning the M2 i can guarantee that the M2 is not only the most budget friendly way to get into the leica M body system, but it's also THE BEST leica M body.

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. Appreciate the viewpoint. I’m definitely still in love with my M2 and won’t replace it even with those dislikes I mentioned. I’ve come to love it for what it is and won’t change anything about it.

Thanks for the video. I have never used the Minolta HiMatic AF-2 35mm film camera with fixed 38mm f/2.8 auto focus lens. However, I have used the Minolta Hi-Matic 9 35mm film rangefinder with fixed 45mm f/1.7 manual focus lens. I primarily use my Hi-Matic as a backup to my Leica M6 35mm film rangefinder with 21/35/90mm lenses.

The answer to why people tend to love grain and are continuously searching to emulate film is quite simple : - Unconscious Nostalgia - Throughout our youth, we watched all our favorite movies shot on film. We've seen those particular colors, textures, halations, and all those little imperfections that instantly introduced the other dimension that movies actually are.. on pretty much everything we watched growing up. It's completely expected that we are seeking to reproduce what always been for us the look of a movie. If digital would've come first, we would do the other way around. The more we're able to faithfully reproduce the film look(s), the more we're convinced that we're actually making cinema (even when we're not). It's 100% psychological. 100% the same with 24 fps, which is also part of the film look. We simply can't move on from 24 fps.. because it looks wrong to most of us. It's looks like TV reality, or TV news... anything BUT ''cinematic''. There's no other explanations to this phenomenon. The closest thing we have available for authentic grain emulation is Dehancer. LiveGrain is the very best, but isn't available to purchase (it's a service they offer for projects, and it cost tens of thousands of dollars). Dehancer gets really close though, if you set it right. What I strongly recommend to do is ripping some actual Bluray movies shot on film, import it in you NLE and analyze with both you eyes and scopes, to find the perfect settings. Remember that different scenes/shots have different grain, based on many factors including film stock sensitivity, available light, if the image is actually full frame or has been cropped (like close-ups), etc. All of those details make the film look we're unconsciously seeking.

Been using this camera for over a year already, but first time I’m gonna use a positive (E-16) film. I heard this type of film needs more specific metering. Not sure if this camera has that capacity of should I get a manual meter on the side? 😅
