FM-200 isn't toxic when used in the quantities needed for fire suppression and it doesn't displace oxygen like Halon-1211, 1301 or 2402. FM-200 basically throws a wrench in the proverbial gears of the chemical reaction that keeps a fire going by taking away free radicals in the fuel, while Halon takes away the oxygen that sustains the fire and/or the life of any poor sap who didn't run fast enough to get out of the room and behind the now-sealed doors. Both are colorless, but are basically opaque on discharge due to how cold it gets from rapid decompression, and when either system is counting down to dump the gas there's an alarm and strobe lights that go off to tell everyone to get the hell out of there, even though FM-200 is non-toxic its still a good idea to get away from the possible fire anyways, and I only know this stuff now since I'm on a binge trip reading all about fire suppression and server room maintenance XD

It's actually quite reliable as there are pretty much only mechanical parts. So if for instance the heat detectors or fire panel do fail at the start of an actual fire anyone can manually trigger the system from the control head at 2:16 and then it's only a matter of pulling and turning a *mechanical* handle that will puncture the small CO2 cartridge and in turn cause the dry chemical cylinders to discharge.

I was at a gas station this fall and their system malfunctioned, activating their system, filling my vehicle with the chemical and trapping me inside. It sucked all of the air out of my lungs, I couldn’t see or breathe and 8 months later I am still struggling to breathe. There was not a fire, they have no idea why their system malfunctioned. It was terrifying.

First of all, you want the ambient air temperature, not any surface temperature. A regular digital thermostat is better than the laser for this reason. Just have it as close to the T-stat as possible. Second of all, speak up! We're not in the room there with you. It seems like you're on something.
