They were tired for this show, but this and “Dixie” were highlights. A wonderful historical document.

I just watched The Last Waltz yesterday. My mom recommended it and we saw it together. It was brilliant. Never listened to much of their music before, but I’m definitely going to now.

The best band to ever live, sad that Levon wasnt a fan of the Last Waltz when he performed this amazingly. I can understand though, you can see how Robbie made it all about himself in this video alone.

Sorcese is such a jerk. Levon hated Sorcese with perfect hatred for good reason. In this song Sorcese has Levon as 5th, Fifth, V, bill. What a chazan Robbie Robertson was. Levon stated all the Band songs were group efforts. Robbie hogged all the songwriting credits.

Springsteen said that together they were greater than the sum of their parts. I always thought Levon Helm could have been much more. As the only American from the group, and a Southerner at that, he had the voice, the mannerisms and the stage presence (after all, his acting credits showed that), to have been a legendary country/pop/southern rock crossover artist like, or even with, such characters as Glen Campbell, Jerry Reed and many others. He could be, and often was, spellbinding. I wish he had done more.

Robbie was their songwriter. He was THERE. I don’t get the vendetta that fans have against him. He wasn’t killing himself with drugs and alcohol, unlike his band mates.
