I’m not a mechanic but practically everybody knows the “Slant Six” engines really are bullet proof. Looks like you’ve done a great job of rejuvenating the car. Well done!

I love these first gen dodge cummins….i worked for a pool company that did chlorine deliveries and we had both 1st gen cummins and 2nd gen cummins trucks only thing is the first gen was a manual transmission and the 2nd gen truck was an automatic……needless to say the first gen manual truck was way funner to drive and the power between the 2 were night and day…..nobody ever wanted to drive the newer automatic truck……we would literally fight over who’s taking the first gen stick shift truck…..that truck boogied , i dont think it was even innercooled….it was literally the early early first gen cummins/dodge….i wanna say a ‘88 or ‘89 and the second gen one we had was a ‘95…..man i do miss driving that first gen manual though…..it like to swap in a manual trans in my LS supercharged Nova or LS supercharged ‘73 c10……..i just dont know which one id wanna swap…..i do feel the urge to have another manual trans in my life other than the ones on my motorcycles…..

An old head diesel mechanic at my job had one parked for 3+ years at his farm and fired up on the first crank. He ended up selling it. These bad boys are perfect!

Upgraded to dual MC power brakes, which is safer, and appears also front disks. Smart that you didn't mount the coil like the factory down in the grub-zone on the alternator bracket. I used a later e-distributor which triggers a GM 8-pin HEI module and coil mounted on the inner fender. That electronic Vreg is good and only $11. I changed to a 1965 bulkhead connector (cut hole slightly taller) to get its buss-bar feed-thrus for the large ALT and BAT wires (avoids melting). You must have hand-blipped the throttle to set the choke since didn't push the pedal. With the factory air cleaner, my slant-six engine is so quiet you can barely tell it is idling. The Carter BBS carburetor is best since the later Holley 1920 get clogged metering blocks to idle lean and rough. I prefer the rotating rod throttle to the later cable which can get stuck. The slant-six is said to be so strong because the block was originally designed (produced a few years) for aluminum.

What an appealing old gal! I love the 1937 Cadillac above all others...the grill is magnificent! I'd be pleased to pilot it myself in the annual Woodward Ave cruise by Detroit, these type seldom make an appearance there.

318 2 barrel carb. The 360 4 barrel engines had a dual inlet/snorkle air cleaner and a Rochester Quadrajet starting in 85. no more Carter Thermoquad 4 barrels. The 360 truck engines up to 88 all had no spark control computers, regular electronic ignition with old school distributors (centrifugal and ported vacuum advance) Carbs had normal metering rods etc. The 318 HD police 4 barrel engines got the electronically controlled feedback Quadrajets with oxygen sensors and detonation sensor etc.

You are going to sell for the environment? The E-Ray is a performance hybrid, the battery is not for increased range, only to power the front wheels. Your C8 is beautiful. Keep it, preorder the E-Ray, drive the wheels off it, and sell it for ~MSRP before you take delivery on the E-Ray.

You made my point right off the bat, you say I hope you can see the engine because of the glare,,, why do people put a cover over a engine to look thru a piece of plastic or whatever it is made of when all you have to do is look at it...just don't get it, if you want to show your engine you don't need a cover to view it.... I just don't get it

If you were to drive this car with the top down and no cover, the heat from the engine would damage in the interior of the roof. It folds directly back over the top of the motor. That is why you do this in a C8 Corvette.

This car is beautiful. I too have a 57 Bel Air hardtop that has a lot of originality, but no where near as nice as this one. As a result, I like to look at original cars and factory documentation just to see what is original though I do realize variations exist for a variety of reasons. I do have a few observations that make me think this one is perhaps an "enhanced" original. First, the underside video shows a car that is just too clean and has some rubber parts like the rocker drain seals that are too pristine. I wonder if the car was cleaned by a dry ice blast or similar method and then sprayed with some sort of preservative. In any case it's beautiful. Secondly, the paint looks to have been polished. I have seen other original cars and have never seen one with paint that smooth. Finally, the valve covers have obviously been repainted and I am one that believes that Chevrolet did not paint the script silver, even though I have seen such painted script in Chevrolet PR photos, so I think the jury is still out on this. And one final note, per the assembly documentation, the wiring for the transmission kick-down switch at the carburetor should be routed alongside the temperature gauge wire and use the same valve cover clip. Bottom line...I love your car and it is the cleanest looking original 57 out there.
