I'm a 56-year-old outdoorsman from Alberta (Canada). I share over 38 years of lessons with my fans, some of which have been learned the hard way. I'm into long-distance wilderness backpacking, canoeing, kayaking and general outdoor pursuits. I post videos of many adventures, but what I'm really passionate about is backpacking alone. I tend to do less popular hikes because I like to get away from people and challenge myself. I also post the occasional gear reviews and "how-to" videos on outdoor skills. I'm a professional engineer by training.
NOTE: Sales representatives, manufacturers, stores, etc. are free to send gear for evaluation, but this does not guarantee exposure within a full length trip video or a dedicated review video. If you send a good item (and I end up using and liking it) there's a high probability it will be featured in a trip video or review video.

Been about 15 years since ive done this hike. Im thinking about going back tomorrow.
Have fun.
Very impressive fold up solar kit to travel with in car or camp .Thanks for demo!
great
The original Kinesis were better in my view, the nubuck finish is more breathable.
I agree. Also lighter. Unfortunately, for me, it doesn't fit quite the same as the new version.
I prefer a ferro rod it does a lot for me and i know how to process things down to start fire
Hi, I found a PCP pellet rifle in the US that I'm interested in purchasing it's over 500 FPS so it requires a p a l shooting license. The seller is concerned about having issues having it sent here and I am also concerned that I'm not informed enough. I believe there is an additional 15% tax but I have to pay once it arrives. Are there any forms I need to fill out before purchasing the gun and does the seller in the US need specific information in order to send it to Vancouver BC?
I'm in no way an expert on importation rules. It just sounds like it's going to be an administrative nightmare.
Just seen your interview on the news blog....I 110% totally agree with you on every topic you guys touched on.... Jasper was totally preventable....
Beauty. I got the all powers 600 watt and a Bluetti AC180. Too big for a canoe, but great in the truck.
Wow this is a really cool idea. ❤ I can think of how this would make sense for our lifestyle. Lots of off grid camping.
what do you use for coffee. I can think of 3, a; instant, b; you bring a peculator with you and have real coffee. c; just the pot and boil the coffee, which is manly strong.
I'm an instant coffee guy on the trail. The taste is secondary. The view is everything.
Helli logging to access and select the large growth trees that prevent the new growth, and are dying. Ensuring to leave the area with newly planted trees. The forests will manage themselves regardless with fire and or human intervention but we may not like how it affects us. I believe it can be done responsibly and clear cutting I don't believe it is a solution. Controlled burns are critical as well to ensure safety of community's. The problem is that people also get greedy and take more than they need and give nothing back. We can all do better and exist with nature responsibly and thrive. It is actually how we were meant to live and I believe the current society is to far removed from nature. If they would just get out of thtere cubicles or offices and cities. They would know how connected we are to this planet. You got to experience it to understand
You did a fantastic review. Tried and tested, really excellent. Honest evaluation.
Thanks Marty, I just heard that Melissa Lantsman and Danielle Smith are in the WEF. Sorry this has nothing to do with your show right now but I thought you might want to know. Wondering if your thumb is all better and wishing you and your family the very best !
Good to see you Marty. I`m looking for a setup like that. Thanks for the video.
Watching this morning after the wildfire destroyed Jasper. You are bang on! This harvesting has to be done, as well as the inches of deep dry pine needles you are walking past!
Hey Marty, I’m planning on solo hiking the southesk this summer. The stretch where the trail disappears looks pretty daunting though. Any tips? Do you think I would be okay using the AllTrails gps as a guide?
Bring your GPS, but make sure you still have route-finding skills. The resolution on a typical GPS is 5-10 m, but the trail is totally overgrown by willow in many sections, and difficult to find. Just need persistence, and common sense. .
Awesome video... you are making me miss my summers and one autumn in Banff and the national park... God is an amazing artist!!!
Eh, I’ll just wash them in a stream
Hi Marty, Yes thats awesome how challenging is the navigation from Blue Creek to Hardscrabble and are there campsites out there - Cheers
The trail on the west side of Blue Creek is decommissioned and the suspension bridge is gone. The trail on the east side of the creek is still good, and easy to find. It's shown on the Parkc Canada website. There are camgrounds at Topaz, Acient Wall, NAtural Arch and Cariboo.
I was an operator when I first start in the patch. It was HBOG at the time.
That is gross!
Great video! So you're free to camp at Margaret lake any time of year because it's in an improvement district? Hector is in a national park though right? Love a good winter camp. Looked like a challenging but fun adventure!
I was just wondering if you are prone to getting blisters on your hikes. I have always been told that wearing two layers of socks will increase heat and friction, thus leading to blisters. I was curious what your experience has been.
I always wear two pairs of socks, and I never have blisters. The key is simply finding boots or shoes that fit properly. I tried a lot of boots of ver the years, and settled on Scarpas. I wear mine a bit tight, which prevents any slipping. Key area for fit is the heel. I also change my lacing throughout the day. Tight going uphill, loose on flat land.
Nice review, thanks...
I've had similar experience, there's not much to separate the "high end" ones in terms of strength but titanium ones don't bent so easily.
Not too often we hear that King Marty turned around during a trip. Good choice to pass up that scramble down. I’m sure that Tikka said thank you,as well. See you on the trails,Marty.
Okay, now I know why I follow your channel. I thought this was a ubc thing.. now I know. 🎉 Solidarity.
Good review. What SIM card/ carrier did you use.
For this test I just pulled out the one from my phone. I'm with VIrgin Mobile, and it worked just fine.
@@Martyupnorth Thanks for the reply. I have seen others use Eiotclub cards just curious. Cheers
Would it work without belt loops? And with a drop leg holster?
How big is your pack? Liters?
How's your thumb Marty ? Hope everything is going well for you !
First time viewer, but now I am going to look for the other videos of this trip! How many total KM was this hike?
About 45 if memory serves me correctly. I always put links to my CalTop itinerary in the description. Feel free to ask any question about this or other hikes. Cheers,
Are you associated with the small sports store in Caroline, Alberta.
@@Martyupnorth yes, I am the third generation in my family to own it :)
@@user-xh2db4lv5m cool. I stop in often.

Good Grief 😂
I don't know about this one Your advice is great yet I definitely have to ponder this one
wear them until they're dirty, turn them inside out and put em back on :).... and then if the trip is long, maybe burn em. less wait in your pack. :) too funny Marty !
If the stove is replaced with a Hornet 2, can it still fit into the 600ml Alti?
Conservatives are dumb AF 🤣
Ummmmm lol
When I go camping with you, I'm NOT eating!!!
Ok Marty, you’ve crossed the line here. Nobody washes dishes when camping. Everyone knows that.
😂😂😂 oh Marty, you made me laugh 🤣🤣🤣
Thks for the review, camera seems of much higher quality than the Campark/Voopeak range of 4G cameras which are cheaper but in fact more "toyish" than anything else !
Thank god you’re joking…… right ?
He's a Pierre Poilievre supporter, of course he's this trailer trashy
I’m also a strong conservative type , I was joking with him but I take it you’re more of a liberal type , sorry about your luck .
Umm i won't be able to make it to your place for dinner 😂
Big ol pot of E-coli 💩🤎☠️😂
I’m going camping and I’m bringing... E. coli! ;)
I’ll try this next time I’m out. 😂
You can also use your underware as toilet paper ! Why not cover all the bases!
Pro tip #2
Don't know if you are serious or joking.
I can read his face he just making me laugh
My wife is laughing so hard that she's snorting
