The stair wouldn't pass any kind of code unless it was built much heavier and I would have to have a latch to hold it against the wall and some sort of assist to bring it up and down without dropping it on your Noggin

Can I get the dimensions on the folding staircase.

I love the stairs - so cool! But as a painting contractor, I gotta say, why on earth would you install them before drywall finish? Now you have to tape around them AND paint around them. I would want to smack the shit out of a GC if he did that install without letting me get in there first and finish that wall.

This is a fantastic design, as others have said the placement of the hinges appears to be stronger the way you designed it. I plan to build one of these to go on the side of my motorhome and create a rooftop deck!

Maybe I missed it but, that staircase needs a latch to keep it from deploying accidentally and an automatically closing gate at the top to prevent someone walking over the ledge at 0200 in the morning when they've woken up with the munchies and their brain isn't quite on yet. Other than that, it's fricking amazing. Personally, I would've added longer hydraulics for the center of EACH step so there'd be consistent support throughout via a right triangular support but, maybe that's in excess. In any case, pat yourself on the back; this is awesome!

I'm building 2 separate ones for two lofts, and much more sophisticated and complicated. Trick is to use ultra-lite woods and hinges & hydrolic shocks for easier handling
