    This is what I needed! Its so hard to find an outlet in leatherwork where everything isn't belts/wallets and handbags or the western style. No offence intended for those fine crafters but it just isnt my style! I have this driving passion to create leather outside the normalized expectations. I just haven't honed it yet or found people who want to purchase it. Im still just making the wallets and purses until I can get up the courage to continue into the fantasy style/ nature element I've always wanted to do. I have made my own skyrim drink holders and a couple other personal items but there is no market where im at for this creativity.

    Hey there, so we only offer digital patterns, which you download and print at home (or at your local library/copy center). No longer offer kits. This is quite an advanced project, and can easily take 18 hours to complete two shoes, so I wouldn't recommend trying it on a tight schedule. However, if you're excited to try, you can get access immediately!

    Holding the curved knife, with a hammer grip, and putting you hand underneath the leather with the blade tip only exposed to the line being cut is much easier, because you have a firmer grip. Also nailing the leather to the bench makes for holding the leather easier. Doing both will make for the knife not breaking, and cutting yourself unlikely. 😂❤😂

  • @FoxesandRavens

    I've updated the kinds of knives I use several times since making this video, but more than anything I would say that you need to sharpen your knives very regularly. It shouldn't be hard to cut leather, even very thick leather, if your knife is appropriately sharp. So having a knife that's easy to sharpen is key! And curved blades aren't great for that, so I no longer use them.

  • @thomasbeckett1245

    @@FoxesandRavens yes , I buy hook blades for my Stanley knife, they are mass produced and wickedly sharp and cheap. Also a bit of stropping definitely will make them glide along.

    Hi, how long does it take you finish the shoes after the raw pieces are cut und punched ?

  • @FoxesandRavens
    @FoxesandRavens6 ай бұрын

    Usually maybe 3-6 hours for the sewing? It usually took me 6-8 hours to make a pair of shoes start to finish, but other less experienced people said it takes longer for them.

    Where did you get that little hook blade knife for cutting leather, looks to be perfect for cutting out the corners.

  • @FoxesandRavens

    Yeah it's fun, although to be honest, I think a regular #11 x-acto or hobby knife or whatever you know it as does the job just as well and is less expensive to replace the blade. Here's a similar one that Tandy offer: tandyleather.ca/products/tandypro-tools-precision-knife But these days I use a knife more like this one: tandyleather.ca/products/tandypro-r-japanese-style-flat-knife

    I just got the pattern in a fit of daredevilry and have some veg tan on the way! It seemed rather daunting but now I feel it’s doable! ❤ Are there any tips for a beginner? For example in your video on the Oseberg boot you skived / bevelled the sole edges, didn’t you? Is this strictly necessary?
