Matthew: What's wrong Joseph, you look really downcast ? Joseph: My girlfriend, Mary, is with child. Her parents are gonna crucify me ! Matthew: Why don't you tell them that the Angel of the Lord came upon her ? Joseph: Don't be silly, they'll never believe that nonsense ! Matthew: You wanna bet ! What a great opening for a story.

As Jesus told his disciples, if you have enough faith, you could move a mountain ! Some people think this is not possible because mountains are incapable of hearing commands. But this reveals something about those people. Not enough faith ! With enough faith, you could move a planet ! (Matthew 17:20).

Faith is wonderful and I wish I had more of it. I would love to have the faith that Peter had which gave him the power to walk on the water. But even Peter didn't have as much faith as Jesus, of course (Matthew 14:29). As Peter "walked on the water to go to Jesus", he lost confidence and started to sink.

Jesus, of course, was not a Christian and his disciples were not Christians. Jesus was a Jew and wanted to soften some of the harsh rules of Judaism. He thought the Sabbath laws that had developed over many centuries were a bit silly. He saw himself as the Jewish Messiah, the Son of David, as foretold by the prophets. He would not be pleased by the wealth that the Christian Churches have amassed.

Luke decided that he had to have a happy ending to his story. We all like happy endings ! What would be a happy ending for Jesus, who was sent down by his Father who lives in the sky ? Obviously, he would return and sit on his Father's right hand and co-rule the world below. Luke didn't see it happen, obviously, but he had a good imagination. So he wrote it into the story !

I assume that Jesus was "taken up" by a couple of angels who have the power of flight. They can flap their mighty wings and easily take a grown man above the clouds. Personally I would rather stay on the ground !

  • @tedgrant2

According to Acts 1:9 Jesus was taken up and disappeared into a cloud. As you know, up above the clouds the air is thin and very cold. So did he ever make it back to the ground, do you think ? Or is he still up there, floating in the upper atmosphere ?

In Matthew 8:4, after healing a leper, Jesus told the man to offer the gift that Moses commanded. But what did Jesus mean ? Was he referring to the "Law of the Leper" in Leviticus 14 ? Why would Jesus recommend such nonsense ?

When Jesus gave instructions to his disciples, he said something rather surprising. "Go not into the way of the Gentiles and into any city of the Samaritans, enter ye not". "But go rather to the lost sheep of Israel" (Matthew 10:6). "And as ye go, preach, saying, The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand ! "

@@joebryant6045 Do you agree that the instructions Jesus gave are rather surprising to Christians ? If you were a true follower of Jesus, you wouldn't find them surprising at all. Jesus and his disciples were Jews, brought up in the Jewish traditions. The Jews were expecting a Son of David to be king and cast out the oppressors. The Jews expected their God to deliver them, just like he did before. Was Jesus a descendant of David ? Yes, according to Luke 1:32 "The LORD God shall give unto him the throne of his father David" ! Yet another surprise for Christians. Read the first chapter of Luke ! 80 verses ! "We should be saved from our enemies". "A horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David". Jesus was a descendant of David because Joseph was of the house of David ! This is clear from verse 27 which is another surprise for Christians !

@@joebryant6045 Here's a hint, Jesus was a Jew and the Jews were expecting a Son of David to be their saviour. That explains perfectly why Jesus only wanted to preach to the Jews. It also explains why Jesus called Gentiles "dogs" (Matthew 15:26 and Mark 7:27 ) Paul, however, wanted to convert Gentiles, so the Christian story changed to suit his purposes. You are a product of Paul's version of Christianity, which is not what Jesus wanted at all.

Jesus was wrong when he said, "say into this mountain, Be thou removed; it shalll be done". So if he was wrong about that, then maybe he was wrong about lots of other things he said. I now understand the problem was with me and the people i was listening to. Today is bad and i mean real bad when it comes to preachers. This too was prophesized. I can see it too clearly now. I personally would have to be a reprobate to ignore it. As obvious as it is most people dont see it but you do. Thats why i hate i cant do better on this platform but please consider what im saying.

  • @joebryant6045

The works are fruit of the spirit. Evidence of the spirit within. If a person is born again they will produce the fruits of the spirit. Salvation comes before the works. Only grace through faith is required. Its a bit complex but rarely people ask questions like that. People usually make assumptions that there is a contradiction. I find your question refreshing and a great one at that.

The Bible stories contain many things that are contrary to everyday experience. Examples are... talking animals, a man living in a whale, a man walking on water, a man flying up in the sky etc. We all know these are not possible, which is why they are called "miracles". Their very existence in these stories tell you something about the nature of the stories. They are either made up in their entirety or they have been enhanced to make them appear fantastic or thrilling. This means we cannot trust the authors and without considerable independent corroboration, we must conclude we are reading fiction.
