    It now seems to be called Remove Low Frequencies 2, and even though I've applied it to both audio channels, it seems to do very little even when both are set to 100%. I am unable to see the adjustment panel you show in the video, I only have a slider.

    wait I think I found a fix with this update. Theres an option called voice isolation. Pull the slider as much to the right as needed. I had BAD wind and it got rid of it. May need to eg to get the voice to sound a bit more normal, but that got rid of the wind completely .

    @@AlbertCadabra You can still use a channel EQ and just cut the low end frequencies. I would do this in conjunction with the "Voice Isolation" tool for best results.

    Yeah, I probably should have seen a little time on my audio as well ;-) Quick note on breath sounds though. You don't want to kill them completely. • @michaeltowe7395
    @michaeltowe739511 ай бұрын

    Everything I edit gets a color correction pass. If I am shooting with a camera that will shoot in LOG color space I will always do that as it gives more dynamic range, and of course with LOG footage you have to color correct. But even if I am shooting something in a non-LOG color space I will still take the time to color correct and give it a "Look"

  • @michaeltowe7395
    @michaeltowe7395 Жыл бұрын

    I know that Premiere Pro will do all that I mentioned, but but if Premiere Elements won't, and you are in a MAC world, I would suggest moving to Final Cut for two reasons. First if you are new to editing it's a much more intuitive editing system that will just make sense to a new editor. And second, you buy it once and you're done. No monthly subscription like Premiere Pro. I purchased Final Cut Pro 10 years ago and haven't paid a cent more for it in that time. I also have Premiere Pro because I have some clients that require it. I don't even want to think about how much I have spent in it!

    @@michaeltowe7395 Thank you for this suggestion. We are brand new to editing. Definitely trying to stay away from monthly subscriptions, that's why we didn't get Premiere Pro. We do not have a MAC unfortunately, because Final Cut Pro sounds perfect for us. Thanks again for your help.

    Very professional explanation! You don’t know how many people are out there demonstrating this tool but can’t explain it. Love the analogy of moving the microphone back-and-forth. The only complaint is that you said these effects “Stack down“. I assume you mean the most recent one that I choose goes to the bottom, but how does that affect me and when would I want to change the order.

  • @michaeltowe7395
    @michaeltowe7395 Жыл бұрын

    First off thank you for the kind words on this video. So what I mean by the stacking going down is that that is the order of how the effects are applied. So what does that mean in a practical sense? There's a difference of opinions on this, but I am of the opinion that before I apply a compressor, which is going to increase the gain/volume of the audio, I want to clean up the audio as much as possible. That's the reason why in my effects stack, the compressor goes on the bottom of the stack after all noise reduction and EQing. As for when you would want to change the stacking order? For me that really is never. I apply this stacking order the same way every time. Does that answer your question? Or did I miss the mark?

    Best FCPX compressor tutorial on YT. Can you help me with a few general questions: What is best practice in FCPX: 1) use the make up gain in compressor instead of the gain in the Logic limiter? 2) use channel EQ always before the compressor in the inspector or can it be vice versa? Why? 3) why does the output gain meter move up to say 0 dB when the audio meter in the main fcpx interface (down right side) just hits -6dB? I don’t understand the difference, why is it so? 4) if the input signal is low, should it always be raised before instead of only using the make up gain in compressor? 5) is it wise to use channel eq, compressor and finally the Logic limiter for voice always? Or is there a better approach? Thank you very much!

  • @michaeltowe7395
    @michaeltowe7395 Жыл бұрын

    First thanks for the kind words on the video. I'll answer the questions that I can... 1 - I try to get everything the way I want it in FCPX before I go to Compressor. For me compressor is just to do the encode and delivery file. With that said I don't have any experience using the makeup gain in compressor. 2 - I always want to have the cleanest signal as possible before adding the compressor. Since the compressor is going to amplify things I want to remove all the bad before amplifying. My best practice for adding effects are Noise reduction, EQ, Compressor, Limiter. 3 - I don't really know the full answer on this but I suspect it is because the output gain meter in the effect window is showing you the gain without the compression applied, and the timeline meter is showing you the gain with the compression and limiting applied. For me what's important is the meters in the timeline so that is what I'm paying attention to. 4 - For situations where I have a really low signal I will use a Gain effect first to bring up the levels a bit before applying the other effects. 5 - I always use these effects on voice to sweeten. The only caveat to this is if I am getting a voice track from a known source at a studio I trust to deliver files they have already sweetened. And even in that case I'll use a lightly applied limiter to get the levels on them to where I want them. Bonus info - The one thing that has changed in my workflow recently is that I am now using the Voice Isolation feature for noise reduction. It doesn't always work so I still need to keep the Crumple Pop noise reduction on hand, but it does work a good 95% of the time. I hope that helps.

  • @mikejung272
    @mikejung272 Жыл бұрын

    @@michaeltowe7395 Dear Michael, thank you very much. Most critical is point 3. I cannot fully understand the difference with the two meters. But you are right, I am paying attention the the timeline audio meter, too. Voice isolation is a great help in noise removal. I hope Apple will improve it over time. It arrived while editing a documentary on a family circus.
