    Great breakdown Dan! You brought up so many logical aspects I never even thought about. The one thing I think is also crucial to mention is Pantojas build being more compact = stronger than Ersek!! You spoke an about Pantojas ferocity at length which is related but well done! I think you’re right it’s gonna be Pantoja but Ersek is a live dog and Vegas might have it right. Age is a possible factor 28 to 35, that championship winning percentage of 35 and over or record is pretty brutal!

  • @DakonBlackblade2
    @DakonBlackblade2Күн бұрын

    Pantoja is 34, which isn't that much different but is essential cause in the categories from lightweight bellow no one has ever won or defended the belt from 35 over, so him being 34 means he isn't at the point where biology seems to completely screw all the smaller fighters.

  • @sweetpetemma
    @sweetpetemmaКүн бұрын

    @@DakonBlackblade2 34, my mistake I thought I saw 35 in Dan Hardy’s tale of the tape. My point was he is close to that and the numbers aren’t great for guys 35 plus for title fights. I am still leaning Pabtoja but I do think Ersek has a lot of advantages that if he uses correctly could lead to an upset.

  • @noxzy69
    @noxzy69Күн бұрын

    I've always thought this. I feel like there's quite a few lightweights lower in the rankings and even outside the top 15 who if you dropped into a fight with Islam would probably have a better chance than a lot of the top 10, but stylistically might not be able to make it to a championship fight, or lack the star power

  • @dcarson89
    @dcarson89Күн бұрын

    @noxzy69 star power is an enormous factor in certain divisions especially lw. You could slave away for years and a mcgregor comeback could whip your title shot.

    @dcarson89 it's crazy. It does sometimes ruin the legitimacy of the belts for me, meritocracy is non existent. But it allows for us to get pretty much all the fights we want to see so swings and round abouts really

    @17:00 Supposedly Aldo's motivation for coming back is to finish out his UFC contract. I heard he wanted to try boxing, but he wouldn't be allowed to do that legally if he still has contracted fights remaining with the UFC, vis-à-vis their non-compete clause. And since Aldo still has name value - which I'm sure the UFC believes wouldn't exist without their promotional efforts - they will try to pass that popularity onto a younger fighter. I don't think this will be as bad as Frankie Edgar vs Chris Gutierrez, but it's the same idea.
