They need to go back to coning off the pit exit lane so it can’t be used while on course. Other series do it. Never understood why SCCA is so averse to having cars use the entire pit exit lane and blending on the inside of T2 exit. Otherwise drivers use the exit lane while racing and then end up stuck out there with no where to go and pointing straight at the dirt. That area of asphalt should not be for racing. It should be for exiting the pits, period. Otherwise you get exactly this. Seen it too many times.

Why is it, that 50 years later, drivers are still trying to win at the freaking first turn? Wiped out the third row by forgetting its not all paved going into 2.

Despite the damage 57 managed to drive off. Because of that the rest of the field got 1-2 more laps of racing than they would have otherwise. We have two wreckers and the emergency truck can pull tow. Course Marshal truck with the oil absorbent contraption on the back can only pull you out of the gravel in a pinch. Video reminds me of another titled "Flying Tiger". Sunbeam Tiger fully restored (except perhaps the master cylinder), smashed the brakes going into T5 with zero result. Went off course to the inside and continued all the way into the tire wall. Had a bit of fire from brake fluid on a hot exhaust.

You greatly underestimated your dirty air braking distance. You should have known you didnt have all the avalibe downforce and should have left more space, nonetheless great driving, you clearly are really good, it was just a small oversight on your end I think.

Thanks. Appreciate that and agree. There was also a big headwind going into that corner that day. I didn’t have the benefit of that under braking when trailing.

As a kid playing Gran Turismo, I hated this track. But as I kept having to play it to progress and each game had it as a staple, I eventually got better and better at it and now it is my favorite track to race. I hope one day I can take a lap on it for real. I think I got that corkscrew science down lol.

Need to brake later and harder. Pick the throttle up once and cleanly. Braking too early hence why you’re picking up the throttle before the apex Good commitment but it’s not the quickest way. If you can pick the throttle up before the apex or ever on part throttle it’s normally a result of going in too slow. There are some corners that are an exception but in this case it’s a habit by the looks of it. You can be quick but you won’t be quickest unless you sort that

I know this is old but for reference, I had 102 starts in PCA SPB since 2012 with only one minor incident where another car dented my fender and knocked my toe out so it hasn't always been that crashy. At least here on the east coast. It does seem like it's gotten worse in the past couple of years though.

Love this track but I think the nascar layout is more fun. Nascar turn 4 coming down the hill and throwing the right side over the curb and swinging way out by the wall is epic.

Joe, I just watched Tims video of the race. I knew you were in a bad place from my vantage point in control when the car broke, but after watching his video I now see you were literally a sitting duck, glad we threw the double yellows and got the safety crew out there. Luckily you were mostly off line, but if someone had not been paying attention it could have been very bad.
