Unschooled Art is an art education channel creating concise art lessons on drawing, art history and the elements and principles of art. Our lessons cover art in popular media (like art seen in video games and movies), as well as traditional art and artists. Our tutorials are made for beginners. We also present quality art lesson plans for all of the art teachers and homeschooling parents out there. If you are an aspiring art student or if you are in art education, stick around and let's draw together! :)

You are wonderful, thank you!
Thanks. Glad this helped you!
Thank you so much. I have a question though: I am interested in the Ipevo. Would you recommend it or do you think another one you tested is better? I only watched the Ipevo part (sorry).
I have used the Ipevo 4k before. It is a well rounded camera that can run in a browser window (it doesn't require the traditional installation on your computer's hard drive). The biggest cons I feel it has is it is short and made from plastic. That being said as long as you don't drop it and as long as you are not trying to display paper bigger than 8.5"x11", it is a very solid choice. I think you would be happy with it if those cons don't bother you. There were only one or two on this list I would NOT recommend....the Ipevo wasn't one of them. Go for it!
@@unschooled_art Thanks again.
Very helpful thank you❤
Thanks for watching!
Can I plug them into a tv?
No, you can not. These cheaper ones require a computer to be connected. They do make them that will work directly connected to a TV or projector (without a computer needed) but all of those that I have found cost $300 or more. If you have a ViewSonic screen in your classroom it will work directly there, as long as your are in their camera related app.
Thank you so much for this
You're welcome. I am glad that you found it helpful!
thank you😀
You're welcome!
Thank u!👏🏽👏🏽🙏🏽
You're welcome. I am glad that you liked it.
This is great, thank you! I'm thinking about offering this as a summer camp activity. How long does it take to dry before it can be painted?
Depends on humidity, but generally 3-4 days.
@@unschooled_art Thank you! I'm in Florida so might be a week LOL I appreciate your reply!
@@lesliethomas1199 You're welcome. BTW, I told my students to make their walls thicker in this video. This is not standard instructions for ceramics, but my experience with Crayola air dry clay is that it is fragile and when we make it thinner (which is typical practice with traditional clay), there are lots of pottery casualties when working with younger kids.
@@unschooled_art Thank you for the tips!
Excellent video! My unschooled kids asked to rewatch this one many times!! Thank you for sharing!
I am happy to hear that! I am glad they enjoyed the video. Thank you all so much for watching. :)

You can always use the IPEVO software with any of the document cameras. You don't have to use the software that came with the camera. I use the IPEVO Visualizer app with various brands of document cameras.
Yep. I mentioned this in the video. I hope that they never update the software to lock it down to Ipevo only cameras (Inswan and other currently do this...you can only run their software with THIER cameras).
@@unschooled_art I keep a download version of IPEVO in case an update ever breaks the programs. The version I know works and is tested I keep on my backup drive. This won’t help though if you don’t have access to install directly to the laptop though.
Nice tip. Thanks.
Thank you so much for taking the time to put together this very helpful information!
You are welcome. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the video helped me a lot keep uploading.👍🏾👍🏾
Awesome! Glad it helped. 👍
Amazing video I wish I knew how to do that😂 like I need another hobby🤦♀️
Yeah. I know what you mean...I am a professional hobbyist at this point. 😜🤣 Too many interests and not enough time. As far as the videos go, I am still learning which is why I am so slow at making them. I just Google the things I want to add to my video and find a tutorial. Capcut is really easy for beginners to edit with. I use FinalCut and Adobe Premiere to edit videos. I also use Adobe Fresco and/or Rough Animator on my iPad to do the little animations sometimes.
Love your work!
Thank you!
That’s something new! 😅
Did you ever do the follow up video on the document cameras? What was your best buy selection?
No follow up video. My personal favorite was the document camera that had 2 built in cameras. Unfortunately when I tried to order it my bookkeeper said it was not on the district's "approved technology" list. Because of that I ended up with the Ipevo 4k document camera. I have been using it since I published this video. One update is that the Chrome extension no longer works with it....however, you now just visit apps.ipevo.com and the website loads up the webcam without problem. I find that when I am doing a drawing demonstration I have to lift this onto a box to get the whole drawing in frame for my students. That is about the worst thing about it. The Ipevo is a safe choice.
Can you recycle or reform the clay into a ball and start over if a hole is pinched through during an attempt?
Yes. I tell my students to just crush it down and start again if they make a mistake. If the clay has dried already break it into pieces and put it into a Ziploc bag with water to soak overnight. The next day, pour off the excess water and knead the clay. You should be able to reuse it.
Thank you for this wonderful presentation!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching. 😁
Thank you so much for your awesome video. To study information related to art making, can I get more information from this book "Praxis II Art: Content Knowledge (0134 and 5134) Exam Secrets Study Guide: Praxis II Test Review for the Praxis II: Subject Assessments" in the attached link? I majored in art and am currently teaching art in China, but I think it is quite difficult because a lot of the art making content downloaded from ETS is unfamiliar and specialized. Since art making part exam has a large portion, I think I will need to study a lot for the art making part. If you have any other tips or helpful websites, can you share them? thank you.:) 😊
That book was recommended to me but I personally ended up using the Mona Lisa book almost exclusively. However, I was more concerned with my art history knowledge. If you feel artmaking is your weakness, I would focus on that. Watch some videos or tutorials on the art making processes you are unfamiliar with. I shared all the resources I used in my video. I would use a Quizlet and the ETS study guide. The Praxis book will give you an idea of what the exam would be like, but I imagine art books on each medium would be a better learning tool about art making processes you don’t know about (a public library would keep learning this way cheaper than buying all the different books). Best of luck to you. If you are already teaching art and using the common art tools I bet you are already better prepared than you think!
Wow
I’m a certified elementary education teacher, reading specialist certified and have my admin certification too. My principal switched this year and I’m not a fan of being micromanaged and constantly harassed, so I’m planning to take my art praxis next Friday. Good Lord willing, I’ll pass and move schools! I’ll update after the test. Thank you for the helpful info! 😊
Awesome! Glad to hear we have another art teacher in the making! It's fun teaching art if you are passionate about it and it IS a bit different from being in the gen ed classroom but it isn't Easy Street. There are still most of the same headaches that any other teacher experiences, but with even less support (no grade level team or priority for your content area). You may find teaching art makes you happier in some ways and even more frustrated in others. If you haven't already, talk to several experienced art teachers about the downsides so you won't end up disappointed by the unglamorous reality of being an art teacher. 🤣 😭🥰 Good luck on your test and please keep us posted! I hope that you find a position that is a good fit for you. Take care.
Thanks! I’ll keep you updated. I taught it before when I first graduated from Undergrad. I wasn’t certified, but was a full time sub. I loved creating my own lessons, and have an artistic side. So, fingers crossed, I pass this test and begin a new adventure. ❤
@@loribug12 Sending good vibes your way. You've got this! 👍
Thank you for this video!!!! I JUST found out about these types of amazing cameras!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Eereeeeeek!!!!!🎉❤🎉❤
You're welcome! Document cameras are super helpful at demonstrating art techniques (or anything you want to show, really) to a class.
Great video for my art class! Thank you!
Thanks! I am glad that you found it helpful.
Do you know if the second and third edition of the Mona Lisa matters?
No, sorry. I used the edition show in the video for my test. The book has since updated. I have not retaken the test so I have not been able to see for myself if edition matters. If it were me, I would use the most recent edition as I am sure that they have continued updating the exam also.
Hello, all. I hope that find this video helpful. If you do, please give a like and even better....a comment or sub. To my art teachers and homeschooling parents out there, this video was meant to pair with my last video (on color as an element of art). We are just a couple weeks into a new semester and a new set of students so this is a lesson that can be used when covering elements of art. Let me know what type of art ed video you would like to see next and thanks for being here! Take care. :)
Thank you for your video! I’m leaving medical field to start my alt teaching certification next week and am very excited. This was very encouraging!
I am glad that this was motivational for you. Good luck on your new journey!

Hi, I'm an art teacher and just found your vidoes and LOVE them!! They are packed with information, concise, and just the right amount of info to spark interest with my students! Just want to say keep up the good work...subscribed! :)
Hi. I am also an art teacher and started making these videos to use in my classroom. Sometimes I play them while passing out supplies and sometimes as a primer for a flipped art lesson. I figured they would be helpful to other teachers and parents, too....so I started posting them. I appreciate your kind words and your joining our little community here. Thank you!

Hello, This was an exceptional slide show!!!! Perfect for my elementary school students. Thank you for creating this.
Hi! I am glad that you found this helpful. Thanks for watching!

Great video thanks for your efforts
You're welcome! Thanks for watching.
Thank you!! You’ve been a huge help. You have explained everything thoroughly and made studying more manageable. 😊
You're welcome! Glad that I was able to help. Thanks for watching.
Great review with lots of information on each camera, tested across multiple computers with considerations for the user. Too bad some of these cameras are already not available less then a year later. Still, very helpful!
Thanks for watching and I am glad that you were able to find some useful info in the video. It looks like the AverMedia and the off brand Vizolink are out of stock. The AverMedia is available from other vendors but I was unable to find the Vizolink. Thank you for the heads up on stock. I will update the video description. Have a great week!

Thanks I will ace my homework
Great! Glad this helped. Thanks for watching
Hello, my state requires only the 5135 Art Praxis; is this the same? Thank you.
I took the 5134. The 5135 has about a quarter of its' questions covering art analysis. I have no experience with that version of the test so I did not cover it here. If you are studying, good luck with your test!
I really appreciate you testing all of these cameras. Thank you.
You're welcome. I was trying to find what would work best for me as an art teacher, so I figured sharing what I learned could be helpful to other teachers, too. Thank you for watching!
Excellent info! Thank you!! ❤️
You're welcome!
I am 51. I wanted to be an Art Teacher but I let someone talk me out of it at a young age, so I became a math teacher. I have about 12 to 15 years left in education and I'm not going to spend it teaching math. I'm going to take my art Praxis. Thank you for your video
That is awesome!!! I am excited for you! I had a coworker switch from kindergarten to art this year and she is loving it so far. I am glad that you decided to follow your passion!
I am so excited for you. I was also talked out of it. i just turned 44, subbed for 8 years in elementary and special ed, then threw in the towel after not getting interviews and have worked for a few years. I finally decided that this is how I want to end my working years! I hope that you pass the first time, i take mine in a month and I need to get back to studying.
@@sarademars4922 Best of luck to you on your new journey!

1. Salvador Dali 2. Picasso 3. Vincent van Gogh
Correct!
Great review, I am in the middle of researching a document camera right now.
I am glad that you found this helpful.
this is awesome! it would be awesome to have a video like this for all the elements and principles!
Thank you. Definitely on my list to do! I thought I would be able to animate more of these over the summer but ended up accepting a new job which meant tearing down the 3 classrooms I had as a traveling art teacher and setting up my new one. School started for me a couple of weeks ago so I aim to get back on my publishing schedule soon.
this is fabulous!!!!
Thanks so much! I am glad that you enjoyed it.
Really great video and information! I appreciate that you were to the point and relevant. I am back on the horse, so to speak, and starting on my study plan again, this time better armed with your tips! Thank you!!
