The Supreme Court of the Philippines is the highest court in the country. Established by the Second Philippine Commission in 1901, it holds exclusive powers to promulgate rules related to constitutional rights, legal practice, and procedure across all courts. The Supreme Court can overrule political and administrative decisions and plays a crucial role in shaping legal precedents and electoral tribunals.

Hence, this wualification will ensure that they are very knowledgeable about the government and the constitution. - Must have a clean NBI record. This is to ensure that the president has no criminal record and has no background of criminal affiliations, ensuring that the power on hand will be used wisely and as intended. - Presents his Tax Declaration. The Judicial Department is one of the most crucial departments of our government. The Supreme Court, being the highest court, is very important to become unbiased and be protective of no one. I always believe that understanding something should make things easier for you once you need or are put into position. Understanding how justice is served in the Philippines must be taught to everyone. The role they have to provide security and peace to our country is very huge, and also an issue for ordinary people. Their integrity is damaged because of how difficult it is for poor people to get the justice they deserve. We have a very slow process and sometimes, it takes years or decades for a case to be resolved. I hope the country's judicial department won't stay like this forever and improve as justice isn't just for the rich, but for everyone.

If given the chance to amend the constitution and add 3 other qualifications for the presidency, what will be your additional qualifications? 1. Completed a college degree - You're running a country, you need to be educated in every level of basic education and finish a degree. Hindi lang puro diskarte, dapat may diploma rin. :) 2. Clean criminal record - Who would like to be led by a convicted felon? Do you want to have a public figure who stole/stole from our public funds? No, right? So dapat malinis ang track record, and hindi dapat kurakot. 3. Experienced Public Service - You can't do it perfectly if you haven't had an experience in the past unless you're the chosen one. It's very crucial to have someone who did great in the past and actually helps the people, and not just for the show. Mahirap bumoto ng pasikat, maganda yung may puso at may utak. :)

There is a lot to study and focus on when learning about the government and politics of the country. The Supreme Court is the highest judicial authority in the Philippines and plays a significant role in our legal system. It creates rules for court procedures and reviews final decisions of lower courts on legal issues. It is also very important because the Supreme Court ensures that the powers of the legislative and executive branches are balanced. If I had the opportunity to make changes to the constitution and add three additional qualifications for the presidency, I would include the following: 1. A college graduate with a degree in a field related to Politics. I believe it is important for an individual seeking the highest government position to have the highest level of education. This ensures that their morals, values, and qualities align with the Constitution. Holding a top government position should require a strong educational background. This is not about discrimination, but rather about ensuring that our country is led by a candidate who is dedicated to serving the country and its people. 2. Minimum of 20 years of experience in any government position. It is preferred that the candidate has a minimum of 20 years of experience in public service. The candidate needs to demonstrate patriotism and a strong dedication to serving the country. This experience will be used to measure the candidate's commitment to serving the people. Understanding the real-life situations faced by the people is crucial for the candidate to effectively serve them. Additionally, with this experience, we will be able to track the candidate's record in the government to determine if they possess the qualities of a great President. 3. No criminal record or history of bullying, theft, or any inappropriate behavior during school years. Serving the country means serving its people, as well as practicing and executing the laws and regulations of the country. A great leader does not tolerate bad and inappropriate behavior, and this expectation should start with the candidate. If a candidate is to serve their country, it is only suitable that they do not initiate any abusive or harmful actions. Transparency, good morals, and humanity are the most ideal qualities that a candidate should possess.

Higher Academic Qualification A bachelor’s degree is a minimum requirement to ensure candidates have a basic understanding of governance issues and challenges. Degrees in political science, law, and economics are preferred as they equip candidates with the necessary professional knowledge for leadership roles in governance. 2. Public Service and Leadership Experience Candidates must possess a minimum of 10 years of experience, with at least 5 years in any branch of government (judicial, executive, and legislative) to develop the necessary skills and knowledge. Additionally, policy implementation and governance are complex procedures that demand experience and expertise. 3. Clean Record and Commitment to Transparent Governance Candidates have to keep a clean record and be able to join in the transparent governance that will reinforce accountability and trust in the government. After watching the lesson I have been enlightened as to how the Supreme Court functions. The line "the judiciary of the government is not political" is what struck me the most. I learned that the judicial part of the government should never be biased nor should be influenced by politics and other personal interest. This serves as the Law of the court to expel and provide justice to those who are oppressed and punish those who goes against the law. This part of the government also does not give special treatment; regardless of the social statues or position, nobody is exemption and is expected to follow the law.

The Philippine Supreme Court stands as the apex of the country's judicial system, embodying the principles of justice and constitutional governance. Its structure, composition, powers, and functions are carefully designed to ensure its role as an independent and effective arbiter of law and protector of the constitution. In terms of structure and composition, the Supreme Court consists of 15 members: a Chief Justice and 14 Associate Justices. This composition allows for a diversity of legal perspectives while maintaining a manageable size for efficient decision-making. The appointment process involves a careful balance of powers, with the President selecting justices from a list provided by the Judicial and Bar Council. This process aims to ensure that only the most qualified individuals ascend to the highest court in the land. The qualifications for Supreme Court justices are stringent, requiring candidates to be natural-born Filipino citizens, at least 40 years old, and have at least 15 years of experience as a judge or in law practice. These requirements ensure that justices possess the necessary expertise and maturity to handle the complex legal issues that come before the court. The mandatory retirement age of 70 helps to maintain a balance between experience and the need for fresh perspectives. The court's ability to sit in divisions provides flexibility in handling its caseload. This structure allows the court to efficiently address a wide range of cases while reserving the full court for matters of utmost importance or constitutional significance. The powers and functions of the Supreme Court are far-reaching and fundamental to the Philippine legal and governmental system. Perhaps most crucial is its power of judicial review, which allows the court to declare laws, treaties, and executive orders unconstitutional. This power serves as a vital check on the legislative and executive branches, ensuring that all government actions align with the constitution. The court's administrative supervision over all lower courts and court personnel is crucial for maintaining the integrity and efficiency of the entire judicial system. This supervisory power allows the Supreme Court to ensure uniform standards of justice across the country. The rule-making power of the court is another significant function, allowing it to shape the procedural aspects of law practice and court proceedings. This power enables the court to adapt the judicial process to changing times and needs, ensuring that the administration of justice remains effective and relevant. The Supreme Court's disciplinary authority over lower court judges and lawyers is essential for maintaining the ethical standards and professionalism of the legal profession. This function helps preserve public trust in the judicial system. The court's advisory function to the President and Congress on important legal matters highlights its role not just as an arbiter of disputes, but as a key institution in shaping legal policy. This function allows the court's expertise to inform significant legal and policy decisions even outside the context of specific cases. In conclusion, the structure, composition, powers, and functions of the Philippine Supreme Court reflect its crucial role in the country's governance. As the guardian of the constitution, the final arbiter of legal disputes, and the overseer of the judicial system, the Supreme Court plays an indispensable role in upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice in the Philippines. Its carefully designed structure and broad powers enable it to fulfill these vital functions, making it a cornerstone of Philippine democracy and governance.

As I see it, the Philippines Supreme Court is one of the foundations of our democratic system. It plays a vital role in upholding the rule of law, safeguarding people's liberties, and guaranteeing justice. In addition to this, the branch of judiciary holds a huge role in balancing and assuring that both executive and legislative branches are performing their own responsibilities. Although, Philippines justice system appears to be weak in some ways, I still believe that there is still hope for it to be fixed. Lawmakers should make policies that truly serve people.

If given the chance to amend the constitution and add 3 other qualifications for the presidency, I would add the following: 1. Must have a Bachelor’s Degree. It is ironic to think that here in our country, educational attainment is not important in terms of requirements in elections, especially in Presidency qualification. Therefore, if I would given a chance I would strictly include that all candidates must have a bachelor’s degree before running for the government position. 2. No trace of unlawful acts. Accessing credentials should also include clear reputation and clean track record. We must not let law violators handle the government and manage the public. 3. Must have extensive experience in public service. A candidate for president must have a proven experience through his/her past projects or laws throughout his/her career as a public servant.

I've come to understand several important things from the lecture video I watched regarding the Philippine Judicial Department. I learned that due process can be classified into two forms: procedural and substantive. Procedural due process guarantees the right to be informed and have a fair trial, while substantive due process is based on evidence and relevant legal principles. The Supreme Court, being the highest body of our judicial orders, exercises jurisdiction, while lower courts mirror its influence. In conclusion, justice is maintained throughout the nation by the Judicial Department's complex interplay of powers, terms, and responsibilities. One could argue that the courts have a crucial role in determining whether someone is guilty or innocent, and in doing so, they have a significant impact on shaping our society.

If I will be given a chance to amend the 1987 Philippine Constitution, these are the three (3) qualifications for presidency that I will add: 1. Established Career as a Public Servant - This will ensure that the candidate has the experience in serving the masses and not just running because of their personal motives. 2. Clear Criminal Record - This will guarantee that the candidate for presidency has not done any unlawful acts prior to their candidacy. Let’s just put FP Duterte as an example, before he ran as a president, he was the mayor of Davao in which Oplan Tokhang is prevalent before it is implemented nationwide. With that being said, if the constitution requires the candidates to have a clear criminal record, whether the investigation is still on going or the case has been dismissed, the candidate for presidency cannot run due to their doubtful criminal record. 3. Must have an experience living with the people of every sector of the society - During elections, many candidates provides their plans and platforms for different sectors of the society, eg. agricultural sector. But in reality, they do not know what the farmers and fishermen need. So in order to really assure that they are real with their plans and platforms, they must submit a research or a case study on what the problem of the different sectors of the society is.

Watching this video made me realize how important the Judicial Department or the Supreme Court is in our government in maintaining checks and balances, and peace and order in our country. It serves as the rules and regulations for the people of the Philippines, and as the directives of the Executive and Legislative Departments that ensure these Departments conform to the law, as what Judicial Review is. That is why the Supreme Court should be apolitical and unbiased. Once they become political and biased, many negative impacts would arise that would undermine the principle of justice, the rule of law, and democracy. Thus, the Supreme Court is crucial to follow statutes and constitutions only for the betterment of the country and for neutrality and fairness.

The Philippine Supreme Court plays a crucial role in upholding the rule of law and maintaining the balance of power among branches of government. It handled cases that shaped Philippine law and society. These cases often involve human rights, constitutional issues, election disputes, and controversial legislative enactments. However, its decisions and internal workings have occasionally faced scrutiny over transparency and accountability. Like many judiciaries, the Court faces challenges such as case backlogs, public perception of bias, and issues of judicial independence. Thus, making its citizens doubt if justice could still be accessed by everyone in the country.

Prior experience in government roles demonstrates a candidate's familiarity with the workings of the public sector and their ability to navigate complex bureaucratic systems. This lesson give me an understanding of the role of Judiciary Department as a highest authority in jnterpreting laws, resolving conflict between parties, and upholding justice in the Philippines. At the initial part of discussion, it discusses how this department follows a due process and observing a grave abuse of discretion, which overall, ensures integrity. While, I wonder if the judiciary failed to comply with integrity measures, the public may have the ability to be vigilant and aware on what's happening. Since the institutional checks and balances should exist in a democratic system, the people should be involved if these persist. Another insight I gain is the promotion of fairness and neutrality in this department As for ensuring this principles in upholding the rule of law, litigants or parties involved a dispute can debate and present their arguments and evidence, which are reviewed properly and being questioned for credibility, as neutral forum is provided by court. In applying the law, the Judges should decide cases based on legal principles rather than personal bias or political influence. Thus, they are dealing extensively with facts in order to avoid hasty judgements and ensure fairness in the legal process. Another takeaway is the role of the supreme court as a highest ruling power. High-level bodies such as executive and legislative branch are being tied with judicial department which ensures that no one will abuse their power and ensure accountability. As we deal with the reality of unwise selection of government officials in the country, supreme court has to be vigilant in their actions and decisions to ensure accountability and transparency.

The power of the Supreme Court is crucial in terms of gaining and understanding the justice and judicial system. They implement the rules and make sure that they implement the orders as well as protecting the rights of every individual. It is also a key factor on how the government system in this country plays a pivotal role for other government branches to operate. By this video lecture, I understand the overall process for those people who work under this. The power of the court holds the standard that there is still a moral way of processing the rights of people whether they are guilty or not, and by that, they can give a proper process and justice to those who can't defend themselves because of injustice.

The Supreme Court is the land's highest court and a part of the Judicial Department. It has a Judicial Power that includes the duty of the courts of justice to handle different disputes involving the government and its people. Every case in the Supreme Court undergoes due process which has two processes; procedural due process involves a subpoena as a notice and an opportunity to be heard for both sides, and the second process is substantive due process which uses pieces of evidence presented to a judge. The thorough application of the due process is crucial to ensure fair and just outcomes of every legal disputes.

While watching the video, I came to understand that the significance of the Philippine Supreme Court lies in its function as the supreme protector of the Constitution. Its responsibility involves verifying that all legislation and governmental activities adhere to its principles, serving as the ultimate judge in matters of constitutionality. This authority protects the rights of the Filipino population and hinders any governmental branch from exceeding its limitations.

The Supreme Court, being the highest judicial body in the Philippines, does indeed hold a crucial role in maintaining and ensuring fairness not just in the application of justice throughout the lower and smaller regions of the country but also across other government branches. That said, neutrality and utmost impartiality in its judgment must be carried out at all time to ensure that biases are prevented and justice descends upon those who deserve it. It makes me wish at the same time that we have that requirement happening in reality not just in the present but in the past. If we do really have a just and fair functioning judiciary system, how good must it be to live in a Philippines where justice is not timid? How good must it be that justice is within reach and that you can reach it without being worried that your life would be put in jeopardy, or in worse cases, without being killed?
