  • @piccolopete4673
    @piccolopete4673Күн бұрын

    @@BearValleyPyro I have not done the CIA method but from what I have heard, it can make a better BP than ball milling. I've also heard of people using toilet paper charcoal for making premium BP. Those methods are more time consuming (as far as I know) which is why most will just ball mill. Some of the guys that use their BP in muzzleloaders/etc spend the extra time to make a more consistent and premium BP. In pyrotechnics you use a lot of BP so most will just ball mill 4-8 hrs. Some of the muzzleloader guys will ball mill for 24hrs or even more.

  • @piccolopete4673
    @piccolopete4673Ай бұрын

    My most recent batch of black match burns really slow as I think I put too much charcoal in. I will just do a basic 75:15:10, ball mill it for 6Hrs. Ill then put 1 or 2% dextrin by weight. Ill add Isopropyl alcohol water mixture to it (I only have like 30% isopropyl and the rest is water.) I will then put in bag, soak the string. I prefer to use like 4 strand sting and have 3 layers in it (so 12 strand in total.) I will really push the slurry into the cotton. Hang and dry. Also, if you put Black Match into a enclosed space, you get quick match which burns crazy fast. If you dont know how to do that just do a search for "Black Powder Quick Match" on youtube and it will show you. its nuts but if you enclose it in something it burns insane fast.

    What kind of charcoal was used

  • @piccolopete4673
    @piccolopete4673Ай бұрын

    I typically use basic Hardwood Air float charcoal. I do a 75:15:10 milled about 6 hrs and then add maybe 2%Dextrin. That being said, I had a bad batch of black match recently. I think I put too much Charcoal in the mix and it made for some slower burning less reliable black match. I'm about due to make some more actually. I believe I use 4 strand cotton string and will span it 3 times so there is a total of 12 strands of cotton. It is more work to do multiple runs of 4 strand to get to that 12 strand (since you can just get 12strand string) but it makes for better black match. Black match does better if the strands are not all way tightly woven together, which is why I run multiple times with 4 strand to create more room and soak up the BP. I will also no longer start with dry cotton string. Meaning... I will have it all good to go, spray some isopropyl alcohol water mix onto the string to make it just a little damp, then add it to the BP slurry. Otherwise, the dry cotton will soak up all the liquid in the Black Powder slurry and it mixes funny. I'd rather just dampen the cotton string prior to putting into the slurry.

    This is my opinion and don't take it as advice but.... So long as you have a pressure gauge, are pressing to the proper amount, it would be the same concept as a hydraulic press. I have done it with my 1/2 lb cohete works fine. I have also done it with screaming spoilette. I definitely use a tube support otherwise will split the tube. I have not done it with my 1lb rocket, but only because it is too big to fit tube support on the arbor press.

    So much wasted time. Ball milliing fine chems for more than 4-6hrs is a waste of time. Not to mention, that's why it was hard in the ball mill when you opened it. The media probably was just tumbling alone for 10 hours while your bp was clumped together on the edge. Poor quality Sulphur can make it clump and harden while ball milling also

    Yes, I believe I had a very weak BP batch. I made black match with it. I actually think it is more of a rocket BP ratio so slow burning. I did not do this on purpose. It still works, just burns slower and does not work well encased as a quick match. I use it mostly for testing stuff. I need the make a new batch with better BP (75:15:10). This probably has more charcoal in it.

    I figured I'd get some call out. I am a pew pew guy. Love pew pews. Have a ton of Ar pews. And....other pews. Have lots of other unique stuff. I'm getting into AK's/have VERY limited knowledge on that platform. Have a buddy who is an AK guy. He did something special for my sons B-day. As seen in the vids. We Had some other very unique pew pews in that category that I wanna upload. With my channel, I have really wanted to get into pew pew upload content. I do a lot of it (flinging lead .) I just know KZread is very abrasive against that stuff. So ... I'm testing the waters and seeing if there is a demand and if it is worth it for me to jump through the hoops/do their little dance to not get slapped on the wrist by KZread for all the petty confusing stuff that comes with uploading pew pew stuff. Sucks it is that way, but it is (with pew pews.). That being said.... I LOVE pew pews and have really cool stuff I wanna post. Just trying to decide if I want to go that route. Thanks for clarifying, my knowledge on AK stuff is limited. That being said, 1st time I had the chance to go do this.... I'm Hooked and want to better understand AK stuff. It was just a once in a lifetime opportunity for my boy (I've never even gotten to do anything like that) and I wanted to share. Thanks again for clarifying. Im hooked and just now learning that category of pews (AK). I love the feedback even when it is..... "Your wrong, it is a......) sorta thing. That's how we learn and I appreciate the input. I really want to go the rouet of pew pews w/my KZread channel because I love that stuff. So, I'll probably upload a little of that stuff and see if it is worth the headache to jump through the KZread hoops. Thanks again for the clarification!!! I may upload a similar vid (full auto non AK's but unique calibers from other countries that I've never even known existed.). Cool vids but I'll probably be way off on the details on those pews from other countries and unique calibers. Gotta admit though, I got the AK bug. My buddy is a great resource and I'm excited to get into the AK stuff and unique pews from other countries that shoot funky rounds. Thanks for the comments!!!!!

  • @piccolopete4673
    @piccolopete46732 ай бұрын

    Home made BP is typically higher volume to the same weight. You can press it into pucks, smash it into small pieces and get some higher density BP which is probably closer to Goex. Ill try it eventually, just don't have a puck mould to do this. I tried to make one but it didn't turn out. Eventually I'll try again to make it/I don't want to spend $100 for one as I think I can make one.

    Have you seen whether lead media creates more burned powder fouling?

  • @piccolopete4673
    @piccolopete46732 ай бұрын

    I have not. I also have not tracked that. I use my BP mostly for pyrotechnics so fouling is not as big an issue as if we're in a pew pew. I'd imagine best way to test would be to.... Weigh the lead media, mill a bunch of BP, then weigh again. Idk. Eventually I'll use in my muzzle-pewpew and may be worth testing. I cast some of my own lead media for milling. I don't own antimony so It does not have antimony in it, and therefore, I'd imagine could be more of a concern as the lead media I'd be milking would be softer. Again, not sure how much, if any, lead it puts into the BP. I've been curious though. I do have some lead media with antimony but I bought that stuff.

  • @piccolopete4673

    If making for muzzleloaders and flintlocks, you are much better milling for LONG times. It may be worth the little extra power to mill a long time. Like 12+ hrs. You want it as powerful as possible. If making for fireworking....again, I'd rather mill it 4-7 hrs and throw in some booster. Booster is an option in fireworking, it is NOT an option w/muzzleloaders and cannons.
