    Hello Jam, thank you for the video. Is Amaran 100 enough for full / whole body video shooting in the room which is having low / weak light ? Or is it just for good for portrait shooting ? I am trying to decide Amaran 100 or 200, but couldn't decide. If you can comment on that, it would great for me. Thank you.

    Thanks so much! I've been struggling and suddenly I'm not. Question: You mention Waqas Qazi. Did you take his Masterclass? I've been considering it, but I'm a retired photographer just getting into videography/filming to make work for artistic and social service reasons, so the teaching to become professional part doesn't apply AND the course is expensive AND it's on version 17 while i'm running 18.5 and as a beginner, I don't need that hassle of stuff not being in the same place. But if you took the course and think it was really valuable, that would mean something to me.

    Thank you for the video. Quick question. When using SLOG3 and Phantom Luts do I need to convert the footage to Rec 709 first and then drop a phantom LUT on or can I just slap one directly onto the SLOG3 footage? Thank you I shoot on Sony A7IV and use Divinci Resolve 18

  • @JAMImagery

    Your best bet is to use a Color Space Transform to convert them all to either the same color space or to Rec. 709 and try to match from there.

    I have a P60C and I don't use it where my 100d with a softbox is what's needed. I use it as it was made. It's a tool that's best for some specific uses. I laid it under a steel set of stairs in a warehouse with a really high ceiling. We blew fog straight up through the stairs and this light lit up everything in a thick red color as the girl who was being chased by Freddy frantically came down the stairs in this "boiler room." I could not believe how much light this thing put out and how cinematic it looked. Also, when we were shooting an interior house room, but needed to see the action taking place outside the window too, the P60C brought up the inside in a warmer light to expose the wall and the girl on the loveseat in front of the window, who was oblivious to the horror happening outside. We got great exposure both inside and out the window. Just needed a little kicker coming from the other side of the room. This light is fantastic. Creates "weird" feels for room with very saturated color for those kinds of scenes. Also convenient with warm to cold white light, and the softbox provides just what's needed. Of course there are times when the 300 Nova would be needed, but not in the projects I do (Indie film, commercials, shorts). The P60C is a steal at its price.

    Just got an a7IV and I'm trying to decide on an external monitor. At least the a7IV screen articulates better, even with my cage, than previous Sonys, but it is still small. Thanks for giving me some thoughts on external monitors b/c I was thinking about going budgetary (okay, yeah, I mean cheap). 😁 Per your question, my best accessory so far is the Weebill 2 Gimbal and I haven't even mounted the camera on it yet. But B&H shook up my must-buy-next list by offering a huge sale on it a few weeks back. Had to do it; just had to. Know what I mean? Thank you very much for the tips in this video. I'm too noobie to understand your key point though, about editing is easier by recording on the Ninja V instead of in-camera. Sorry. I will be learning DR17 on my PC.

  • @JAMImagery
    @JAMImagery2 жыл бұрын

    Having an external monitor at all is super helpful - I just like recording externally because the files edit easier on my computer. Record however is easiest for you! Best of luck with the gimbal.

    Super: finally found what I was looking for for a long time: method 1, which quickly delivers a usable result (like A7S3 "gamma assist" on and off ). Then the film editing can be realized. This is then the first reference for exporting the entire film sequence for assessing the first cut. You could place this film on a video track above it (video 2) and then use method 3 to fine-tune the individual clips on video track 1. So you can check your own color grading (video1) for exaggerations by fading video 2 in and out. One more question about saturation: I find that I always give holiday clips, for example, a higher saturation (e.g. SAT=54 / Col-boost = 5). Does it make sense to increase the saturation parameter in Picture Profile 9 already in the A7S3? Or better only in post-production?

  • @JAMImagery
    @JAMImagery2 жыл бұрын

    I try to leave all of my saturation to be edited in post, so I don’t worry too much about fixing it in camera. I’d rather have the flexibility to change it later on than be stuck with something that doesn’t work as well for every situation.

  • @gerrypi51
    @gerrypi512 жыл бұрын

    @@JAMImagery Thanks, I agree. Yesterday I shot 4 clips of the same scenery in S-Log3 with the A7S3: in PP 9 Sat= 0 / +3 / +6 / +9. In the post (only LUT = Sony SLOG 3 TOLC 709) all 4 clips have the same saturation. I'm confused.
