    Hello! I'm starting to get into driftwood art and I was wondering how you would prepare the driftwood prior to carving it. Do you boil it? It seems to be the most popular method on youtube. I have also read somewhere that you could bleach it.

    hie, Im frm Nepal, one of my fren frm abroad told me abt driftwood and its majestic art. we hav tons n tons of driftwood carried away river just couple of yards away frm my home. I think people here even dont abt the driftwood n its possible transformation. I just a beginner. I was curious to know abt the liquid you used in the video to make the wood moist. Im really interested to do driftwood arts n decor in Nepal which will be new breakthrough in our country.

    The clay tool is a neat idea; but wouldn't sanding be faster and cover more area?

    What do you treat drift wood with linseed oil

  • @cbryce9243
    @cbryce9243 Жыл бұрын

    Most driftwood is not flat so a clay tool might not be your first tool choice. These are just some tool ideas that can be used. The outer layers need to be taken off first, no matter what tool you use. If using only sandpaper, it would take a lot long and would muck up your sandpaper. Usually, but not always, routers are used first.

    When you work on some driftwood and find dry rot do you keep scrapping until you hit harder wood? Is there some way (before you invest too much time) to know if there is too much dry rot? Someone I know gave me some very nice pieces of driftwood but there are whole areas that are very soft. You videos have been wonderful to help demystify the kinds of tools needed. Unfortunately you are on the opposite coast from where I am so taking a class is not an option.

    Thank you for the compliment on the videos! It's often hard to tell how much rot you will find in a piece of wood. One idea is to take a sharp pick and poke around in suspicious areas. That will give you an idea how much work you are in for. Good Luck!

    I eagerly await your videos on this beautiful process. I wish I could take classes; but, no one is near enough. I might try to take classes in Bothell area, staying at my daughters, so I can teach them here at the beach. There's a class in Ocean Shores - but that's over an hour drive from here. LOVE your vids!
