Up To The East Side

Up To The East Side

Come with me as I explore all the corners of New York City on my various adventures. New York is an amazing place, and there is always something new to see. The basic principle behind this channel: I pick various places around New York City, mostly out-of-the-way or non-touristy, and go on day adventures to check them out.

This is not a travel channel. I love to explore New York City, and that’s what I’m doing here. A lot of the time, when I go to a place in an episode, it is the first time I have ever been there. Not always, but a lot of the time. Since I’m a history buff and a former history teacher, I will sometimes have some info to share on the different places, but that’s just because I love talking history. Really, the fun is in exploring all the incredible corners this city has to offer. Come with me!

Late upload. At 5:53 you passed an eatery and another free bathroom. Didn't have to go back to Manhattan hungry.

Did I see a bathroom near them yonder fields? Did you know you can't see the front of the Lady Liberty unless you're out at sea. All the views from land cannot see the front. Lastly, it was Bloomberg that linked Battery Park City and the GWB with a continuous walking path which you were on.

I kinda knew that it wasn't a shuffle board court since all the old guys were hovering around the court judging the outcome. You know you could have taken the long way home by walking the Tri-Boro back over to Manhattan.

Just a suggestion: hit up a food joint near your destinations. It'll add some perspective on who lives near these parks and you'll get UNIQUE stories and footage. BTW my co-op is right nest to the Whitestone Bridge.

Sad to say the advent of the super-talls in Manhattan spread the growth into Western Brooklyn (Williamsburg and Greenpoint) and Queens (LIC). I've even seen growth in the Bronx near Yankee Stadium.

Did you manage to see any whirlpool action under the bridge near Spuyten Duyvil? Also something soecail about that area is where the East River starts. That Northernmost point splits the Hudson and make a nice spot to see the current move upstream sometimes during high tide.

Ward's Island and Randall Island are very different compared to the year 2002... Back then, it was a real hell. Thank you for sharing the video and showing us, who were once there, the island.

One could argue that they spend a lot more money in the cities than the residents do, and therefore are better for the citys economy than a local. 😂

Another great video! For some reason I am just no starting to realize how many bridges are in New York..

  • @loudmouthnewyorker2803
    @loudmouthnewyorker28033 ай бұрын

Back in the day gangs used to hang out in the center of the bridge. They would have watch-outs at each end identify potential victims. Once in the middle of the span, the victims would lose their belongings and phones making them incapable of asking for help. The center gang will split and no one is caught. BTW, gotta do Food Bazaar in Red Hook to get that unobstructed view of the Statue. Then hit IKEA for some clean bathrooms.

That’s slightly terrifying. Thanks for the history! And thanks for the tip. I’ll have to check out Red Hook.

Did you know Asphalt Green has a regulation Olympic-sized swimming pool in the main building. If NYC would have gotten the Olympics, Asphalt Green would have held the swimming venue.

Dude, your video showed up in my recommended videos to watch, and it looked interesting, but the music is extremely jarring and too loud, and two minutes into the video I wasn't sure what the video was about. I love Manhattan, and since it gets such a bad rap from many Republicans especially I was kind of interested in what you had to say. Anyway, I am not trying to be a dick, I would want someone to let me know.

Yeah, unfortunately ya gotta qualify which bathrooms aren't drug dens. Maybe there should be a Zagat Survey of public restrooms.

From the angle and the buildings near you, I'm guessing your shot in the beginning is from somewhere in the low 90s near 2nd Ave. Pretty high up too. BTW, there's a path similar to this under the George Washington Bridge and you pass the Little Red Lighthouse which is kinda a hidden landmark under the bridge. There's tennis courts down there and a FREE bathroom that's heated in the winter.

Great job! I've been to NYC maybe 11 times? Always a great time and just a paradise for photography. I see you found the bronze statues! I got a shot of them too when I was on Roosevelt Island. Walked the entire thing, one end to the other! Be sure to look up Atlas Obscura NYC to find other cool oddities. Keep up the good work!
