There's these spidermites in my garden right now, last winter they wiped out all the strawberry plants in my window, so I'm a bit scared, as it took years to grow all the strawberry plants outside. Last winter everything I tried from the internet completely failed, so now it's up to me, if I brush the webs with tall grass, I can sweep them up and put them into plastic bags, and that's where the eggs are, so I can knock out one leg of their exponential growth cycle, then I can spread flour on the strawberry leaves, hopefully to break the spidermites in another way, maybe dry them out, we'll find out if it works, that's all I got~

This happened to me today and it was perfect, the new ASL story I'm getting ready to sign is about a summer camp adventure, it's very short, very few main details, I realized the person I was waiting with before work, he loves camping, so I tell my story, they engage totally, before you know it, we were going back and forth, and it was basically the "how are you" prompt. I usually just talk to the people who engage with me, and wait for them to be in front of me, now I see it~ I suppose I've been making stories in ASL for a while, so I'm not starting entirely from scratch, maybe I can use some of them in talking with my voice. I can say "I'm working on an ASL story, but I'm not sure about it" and then say anything after, make storytelling the subject, because, well, I do that anyway, what about you, do you like creative storytelling?
@thrivinginamber264212 күн бұрын
This morning another wonderful thing happened, my cat stranded itself on my roof and I had to get it down before work, the good part is that's a tiny story, and then at work, I told two people, one was a Deaf coworker who showed up almost late at the timeclock with less than a minute to spare, so exactly the time constraint to tell the story, fitting perfectly, crazy that~ And I still have the other story for the day we're usually waiting.

Standing in front of my high school english class, I would just start giggling, so I turned around to settle it out. In college, I volunteered to make and give a presentation on a whim, standing up there I pressed my hand into the podium and pushed through it. The first time I did youtube, I edited everything into long strings of two second clips, cutting out all my camera-shyness, now I sign stories in ASL, all in one go, sometimes hundreds of takes to get to the end, not even to get it completely right. My worst was becoming sooooo exhausted signing that my progress went backward, and the next time when I did it I completely broke down, and that was the good take.

Yes, concise context, in sign language, "Paint-nails Easy", the most minimal context, yet evokes a visceral reaction, as the sign for "Easy" brushes against the fingernails, which in context, were just painted and still wet. Also, every ASL teacher shows the sign for "Bored" as twisting the pointer at the nose, that's the grey screen version that Hearing are taught. My Deaf coworker signs it with pointers fluttering at mouth and ear, body deflate, her intense expression, show instead of tell, That-thaaaat~

By practicing ASL, I've learned so much about story telling, for me it's the sweet spot, each one teaching the other. A lot of signers explore its cinematic nature, just like the action scenes in movies, like playing with jets. I tend to sign stories with impossible events, or with animals as the characters, and those read a lot like cartoons, maybe they hit the extreme button, but they are definitely a surprise~
