Pipe dream of Tadpole Perdogan - the Caliph of the Ottman Empire - Turkiye soon to be bankrupt / beggar of Middle East along with Pakistan. Final bill will be $75 billion or 5 times that amount. Good luck as long as Iran approves otherwise Houthis are waiting.

None of this makes sense, High Speed trains on lines used by Slow moving container trains? Plus who is going pay for this? European shippers who would use Rail have already found it hard to find space through Russian corridor and it's expensive even in normal times. A lot goods coming from East Asia which might never be reshored to Europe or the US are low quality, low price which very much suit slow steaming vessels. When you can in normal time pay 850 to 1450USD from East China to Northern Europe, why would you pay a premium by rail? Rail is normally a Premium service you use to gain time over trucking not as an alternative to Ships, I've used Ships around Europe as an alternative to Trucks or Trains. This sounds like Istanbul vast new Airport, a vanity project of a Turkish President clinging on to power.

There are no rising waters as you put it. This is why they confidently extend the water front with very expensive buildings that no one would insure if there was a risk of rising waters and inundation. Land reclamation and sea front real estate is very big business around the world if you hadn’t noticed.

Yeah, chief obstacle is the issue of corruption, and not at all the fact that Iraq was utterly destroyed by the US led coalition and civil war some 20 years ago, because of the weapons of mass destruction which were never found. Yes, millions of lives were destroyed, society was turned up side down, and now out of nowhere there is a issue of corruption.

Going through the Straight of Hormuz is a really bad idea! A megaport should be built on the southern coast of Oman with a specialized freight line connecting it to Turkey. This is a much safer option.

Iraq has a coastline of just 24.6 miles. Thus capacity is severely limited... even with a big new port ! But a new Rail freight line from Al-Faw to central Europe is a great idea.

A capacity of 3.5 million containers per year? Forget about it ! You're probably one of many who don't know the difference between TEU and containers. Nearly all containers are 40ft, so the figure would be 1.75 million per year. But even that figure is ludicrous. The largest train imaginable cannot carry more than 240 40 ft containers, and only in ideal circumstances (perfectly flat terrain, double stacking), but the road to Turkey would involve height differences, tunnels, etc. , therefore each train would carry max. 100 containers, not more. You would need 17500 trains per year, or nearly 50 trains per day. The train ride would be very expensive, and there would be 2 container transfers, adding to the cost and causing extra delays. 7:49 Faster alternative?? You must be kidding. Last but not least it's easy for Egypt to cripple any competitor by lowering the price for a few years. The price level has always been set just below the nearest competitor.

@@CraigTheBrute-yf7no The department I work for makes transport contracts for a total of 300 million EUR per year. I think I know my trade. I gotta say, the past was meant to be upstaged... You're not supposed to have the same buildings 100 years later as the biggest most iconic buildings... not unless its some mega project like the great pyramid. that's not getting upstaged, its monstrous. In a city like New York, which is constantly growing, you need to do taller to get more use out of the area that's left. Its one of the most population dense cities in the world and definitely in America. They need to do all of these buildings and more.
