Fingers crossed. 🤞 The need for a wireless carplay adapter is really the only thing that is annoying me in my EV6. I am using the Carlinkit 4.0 and the music quality is noticeably worse than bluetooth A2DP. Currently I’m using an automation to switch audio source upon connect, but sometimes this doesn’t work if my iPhone is due for a reboot.
Fingers definitely crossed, I’ve avoided buying an adaptor as my Android phone broke and my temporary IPhone runs on older software not compatible with the adaptor. I’ve used a recommended High Speed cable but that seems to have failed for some reason. Will get a new phone in September so hopefully all will work then. My ICCU update is booked for August 1st.
This is definitely manufacturer’s faulty design. KIA has to recall EV6s and fix the draining issue with 12V batteries. So far they are shrinking from accepting responsibility. Let’s wait for another 1-2 years until the majority bulk of EV6 owners would hit the problem and it would hopefully send KIA into a meltdown.
I’m in the UK -curiously after waiting 2 years I just this week bought a USB wireless Apple Car Play adaptor for my Genesis GV60 Premium. Fingers crossed for a headunit OTA update which will free up my USB socket making things tidy again.
It’s great to finally have some good news, Fingers crossed for next month for you.
Brian, thanks for the video. I've just bought an EV6 GT Line AWD. This will be useful for my camping trips. Much easier than trying ti figure this stuff out than the manual! Keep up the good work!
There was already an update for the IONIQ today. I asked the owner. With the updater set to Australia, he was able to download the European update. I'll try it out now.
That just starts downloading the Australian version. If you look at the .ver file it creates within seconds of starting you can tell. Folder gets created as 2022_EV6_AU. That will not install on our head units.
@@evodessey I tried it, it installs the EUR Version. It's included. I can´t post a link to a photo. It's blocked by KZread.
Did that get created in the AUS folder or the EU one?. I just selected Australia as a source in the NAV Updater, did you do anything else?
@@evodessey I choosed AUS as region with flash drive plugged in. The car installed firmware for EUR only, but no maps. understandable
So are you stuck with no EU Maps now or do you have a roll back method?
Hi Brian I had my ICCU update two weeks ago came back from 4 day trip to Germany on Business so DC charging to 80-90% NO issues today EV6 would not charge AC went to my local KIA garage and ICCU has failed
Sorry to hear that. Was the ICCU update the 2024 update recall number 241041? I’ve heard of a small number failing not long after the update. Sometimes it’s actually the VCMS (Vehicle Charging Management System) module and not the ICCU though.
@@evodessey yes it was 2024 update latest dealer swapped ICCU but it was a charging issue I must say my dealer is A1 for service
@triumphneedlecoltdsewingwe8896 fingers crossed it's a quick fix
I do wonder if they’ve had bigger fish to fry over the past year or so with the ICCU failures and recalls with regards to software updates???
Maybe but they are separate development teams as far as I know.
We already have this in the EU in our EV6.
Sorry which feature?
The lower limit of 20% is great BUT I find the system so pessimistic! I did a recent 1200 mile trip through France. The KIA nav consistently underestimated by SOC at destination by >10-15%. Even though the GOM was surprisingly accurate! I will carry on using ABRP as that was estimating to <5%.
Hello there, how do i stop rear seat belt buzzing by obd2? I have kia ev6 gt line s 2024. If you know that, please help me
Sorry i don’t know. Just do the seatbelt up is the only way i can think of.
Hopefully more function updates are coming for connected EV6. It's sad to have waited so many months past due for these handful of 'meh updates.
I’m hopeful some of the Kia Connect possible ones i’ve mentioned before in previous episodes like remote battery pre-heat and a manual pre-heat button will come once the EU maps are released. The Australian market has only recently gotten Kia Connect so less of a focus on that stuff. Also the release notes miss out loads of new features.Hopefully we will find out in a few weeks.
Until I can adjust my arrival state of charge at whatever level I want and set my upper limit at whatever I want this tool is useless. 🤷🏻 and while you’re at it, let me precondition on demand regardless of my state of charge.🤦🏻♂️
Agreed
+1
EV3 pricing in Spain is expected to start at 33.500 euros.
Yes i saw that article on EV3 Facebook group. So much waiting around for pricing info at the moment in UK. EV3,EV6 & Hyundai Inster.
Our EV6's in Australia do not have a working Voice Recognition system. No voice commands or any of the stuff that they included in the release notes. All part of the hatchet job they did on our EV6's. No KIA connect, no Voice control, no HDA2....The only voice control that works is what comes with Android Auto or Carplay.
I didn't realise all of that was missing, knew about voice and Kia Connect from Gary Buck but not the rest.
CCNC would then include the 2024 Kona EV
Yes,that has cCNC head unit I think so will get all features mentioned I would speculate. Hopefully more stuff in the EU update but we shall see.
Excellent work, Brian. Slow software development is my main frustration of my EV6, to a point that I am not sure if I would buy a Kia again, once I would like to replace the current one.
The same with the Ioniq6. If it weren’t for the eGMP 800V and Openpilot support, I would choose a different car. This way, I have to be a hostage to the ugly/slow infotainment system. :) If they at least offered a paid upgrade to Gen5W for the ccNc hardware. Or released proper updates and worked harder on it.
@@evRoadTripsSvk To add to this, it drives wonderful.
Disappointing update, so much wait for this ?I guess it’s the end of major updates for old EV6’s…
Will have to wait and see what actually comes out. Every region seems to get slightly different features. The same head unit is in the new Hyundai Inster so some development will continue.
Thanks for the update. Very disappointing that this is all that Hyundai/Kia have been able to update since the last one
Could well be other stuff in the EU update. Also they never put everything in the release notes.
Excellent stuff Brian
Thanks Brian! I keep my fingers crossed they’ll add Tesla Superchargers to the mapping but won’t hold my breath 😕
They would have to do a deal with Tesla to get the charging status info maybe? . On the other hand I thought the previous Government had legislated to get Public Charge providers to give ot up.
Charging stop fixed at 20%? Having the ability to set the lower limit myself would be great news… Hyundai/KIA Software is still stuck in 2022..
They probably figure they need to protect 12v which does not get topped up automatically when car is off below 20%
@@evodessey Maybe in the new infotainment version, it will be possible to set at least the limit in %. :) Could someone from Australia check out what’s new? :-D Anyway thank you Brian for update info.
Thanks, Brian!
Blauzahn is German for Bluetooth. Blau is blue, Zahn is tooth. I am not German but I suspect you pronounce it as separate words.
I’m always word mangling words….🤦😂
Yes, it is a German pun related to technology like e. g. Bluetooth 😅. And Harald "Blauzahn" (=Harold Bluetooth) was King of Denmark and Norway. Todays Bluetooth and it's symbol is actually related to this king 😅
I claim the award of a free EV3 for first to notice typo in thumbnail.
Cheers Joe,I’ve fixed it now I hope😂
Have you seen anything about Hyundai allowing the mute button to turn off the speed limit bongs? I bought an ionic 6 3 months ago. 2025 Hyundai Tucson update brings solution for annoying ISLA speed limit warning
Yes,it’s already a feature on Kia EV3. Also Watch this space for a video later today….
@evodessey excellent it doesn't make sense turning it off completely.
Hello Brian, have you seen that the charging and route planning is no longer based on the fixed charging limit system? Destination is fixed to 30% SoC and chargingstop to 20%. The upper charginglimit is now flexible.
No, and they did that from Cloud settings without an update? Will take a look. Cheers for that info.
@@evodessey Yes, they changed the cloud-planning.
Hello there, how do I stop rear seat belt alerts for kia ev6 gt line s 2024? Thank you
Only way i know is to do them up.
I noticed in one of the new EV6 version reviews mention of a thumb/fingerprint scanner is this for security purposes?
Yes,you can start the car with that or the Digital Key2 on certain models of phone.
Regarding your comment Brian about the annoying EV6 seat heating and cooling haptic buttons that it's impossible to avoid accidentally switching on, I found just the right thickness of clear plastic to put over them using invisible tape. They can be turned on by pressure, but not by brushing a hand across them. 😊
Now thats a good idea Peter
You might want to keep an eye on the Genesis GV60. It sounds like they might have FINALLY made parts available to fix the issue where water gets into and saturates the cabin air filter. I was the first person to report this happening as it was dependent upon how you parked the car, the angle etc. It caused us to reject two cars and the problem was also present in two loan cars. After I made numerous videos, including putting a GoPro in the filter box to record the rain drops, Genesis UK were eventually able to replicate the issue. I first highlighted this in February 2023.
I remember this from a while back. Glad it’s finally getting a fix.
@@evodesseyi think the area below the windscreen on the Ioniq 5 and EV6 must be a different design to the GV60 as I’ve seen no such reports of problems on those cars even though I’d guess the filter is in the same location.
I had a quick look on US NHTSA website for any TSBs for the cure but nothing yet.
I'm getting invites from my local (Southern UK) Kia dealership to attend EV3 after hours sessions. However I''m going to give it 6+ months and look in the spring next year. Last time i bought a Soul at launch (2020) and paid full whack. I think this is very likely my next EV but from what ive seen of most new EVs, after 6-9 months some very good lease deals come along. Also, my Soul has now done its main depreciation its not going to drop much over the next say 12 months so might as well take advantage of that
Great video. I have a Zappi and a Tesla but no solar. On the Octopus App I clicked the T&Cs check box and pressed the button to switch tariff and got a message … “Uh oh something went wrong We were unable to perform that action” Octopus are aware and looking at it. Still in Beta!
Have you installed the latest Zappi firmware?
@@evodessey it’s sorted now, apparently they hade to register half hour readings from my smart meter. I also had to unload and reload my octopus energy app.
You may have missed the most important potential change of the upcoming update: See item 4.2.1.1.11. Remote Battery Conditioning: "This Service enables you to remotely initiate and stop the conditioning of an electric vehicle's battery via the Kia Connect App. Availability depends on the model, model year and trim line." Hopefully, this will trickle down to the EV6. Everybody who uses this car during winter in colder climate might love this - no more need to use KIAs navigation system to initiate battery conditioning.
That's amongst the stuff that was in last year's terms which I covered back then. There is a ton of stuff that never appeared in October terms from last year
@@evodessey That's sad to read. Let's hope that KIA will catch up on this crucial function.
Before pulling the seat "forward to get it off the hooks" you need to push the seat back and lift to release it from the hooks. In a J shaped motion. Otherwise this is an excellent guide. Thank you
I have just seen some information on KZread on this week’s EV3 Tech Day in Korea. This claims that the battery energy density on the EV3 is 22% higher than the Niro EV. This need for greater energy density might explain why Kia has chosen a NCM rather than a LFP battery.
Yeah could be. Knew there would be a good reason
I see there is a new Kia Connect version version 20. I don’t see that added anything though.
Yes,version 19 on iOS came out a few weeks back, must have been bug fixes on iOS. Now both iOS & Android 20 has come out. Any new features will probably activate after the August Maps & Infotainment update or they might turn features on server side at a later date.
@@evodessey I have version 20 on my iPhone came yesterday
Will surround view come to Niro ev?
I honestly can’t predict if it will. Loads of features were added to last years Terms for Kia Connect we only saw a few of them and not the ones i actually wanted.
Dont think the nero has enough camera’s to enable it
@@radiotowers1159 I suspect your right which is a shame it was one of the features on my EV6 I particularly liked
Think I'd rather have my own head unit again and no cloud connection.
As usual, disappointing
Thanks, that popped up on my Nero EV display today while driving and then told me it wont display it whilst driving ! so I wonder what if any changes I can expect. I hope the lag I now get is improved, I upgraded the app by USB stick an noticed a half second or so lag on the display etc
Don't understand this. I've not seen any reports of lag. I certainly don't have any on my Niro EV.
@@AlanTov Got the car end of March and the response was as fast as my PHEV, on screen I was getting the nag screen about data was out of date and because of the size of download it advised upgrade via USB port. After upgrading via the USB port there is now a small but noticeable lag between button presses and the appropriate action. There are a few you tube videos that mention this , my guess is the sat- nav and other systems have had upgrades and the processor now struggles a bit.
@radiotowers1159 have you tried a head unit reset via pin hole next to volume nob?
@@evodessey not yet, I think I’ll wait and see after the planned update
The 360 cam feature is not that great, yes we have it here in the US and you'll most likely never use it. Just takes a photo from each camera and uploads it to kia connect, takes a bit as well to see them show up, it does notify you when photos are ready to be viewed. Only thing the current EV6 needs is a pre condition button, just like ev9.
That feature sounds quite clunky. Hope they do a pre-condition button.
Came here to say the same thing. I have occasionally used it to take pictures of my car when it's parked at the airport for a few days, but it's not particularly useful, even if it's kinda fun. I wish we could enable some sort of sentry mode. Looks like the 2025 will have that, but earlier models haven't enough storage for what would otherwise just be a software update.
They still have not implanted remote seat heating, which is a huge fail in my opinion.
I know. Don’t think it’s even on the EV9 yet.
100% this! It's insane that we can turn on the heated steering remotely, but not the heated seats.
Sadly, I think it's blanket terms covering their next gen system. They're not interested in updates. The car can unlock, then relock when you walk away, but not if you've opened a door; so daft. They could have had a parked camera recorder. They could have wireless carplay but don't. The list is long, and no updates since launch. I'd be surprised if there's anything new for us. As far as car manufacturers are concerned, you're supposed to buy a new one; preferably with a bundle deal for all digital options at no cost to them.
We ended up with several features after last year's T & C update. The Gen5W head unit development is not dead yet though. The new Hyundai Inster has it so they will be continuing for a while longer.
@@evodessey fingers crossed. The wireless CarPlay has been a long unfulfilled promise. Even by the dealers.
Yes,that ones been running since 2020 when i had my e-Niro. We can only dream of that.
They should further improve the car routing and calculation of charging algorythm. than releasing this.
That’s all done in the cloud in the background so that will happen anyway.
It seems worthless, why does kia not mane some ussefull, like manuel on/off preheat of battery, auto lock when you walk away?
They still might do that. It has been in the terms since last year.
@@evodessey i have not many hope, it would be nice if they do updates as offent as tesla, and tesla do usefulls updates.
Interesting, I’d like them to offer wireless CarPlay as a paid for option seeing as they won’t give it to us 🙄
Been waiting on that too I’ll pay for it I just want the native wireless CarPlay I’m tired of using adapters
My Kona 64 already has wireless CarPlay without extra payment.
Is that the new one with cCNC head unit
Brian, a general question if you or your listeners can answer... How would a passenger bring an EV6 to rest safely in the event of driver incapacity? * The answer I would imagine, would be dependant on the scenario whether on highway or in town, Which lane it was in etc. Related questions include *does the driver monitoring do anything when not in cruise? Like sound an alarm? * Could the passenger select iPedal, turn on lane keeping or indicate left and hope that the car will come to the left lane or hard shoulder safely? With the park brake slow the car? What can the passenger do to cut the power to the motors? I remember noting that the EV6 did less well in driver incapacity tests in that if warnings weren't heeded it just gives up and let's go the car whilst other cars came to rest in the lane they were in. Little is advertised by manufacturers how to stop modern cars in an emergency but having tested my Peugeot 308 ICE car at low speeds, the stop start button will kill the engine if held down for a few seconds and the park break will start to apply breaking while held up. I wouldn't want to try the latter too often I suspect it will wear the system out too quickly!
The short answer is i don’t actually know. But I think it’s a very good idea for a research video. So I will add to my production list. As for regen paddles it depends what mode of regen mode the car is in. If in manual regen in theory one of the paddles should bring it to a stop. If in iPedal mode it will only stop if it detects a car in front so if approaching a traffic island it would run over it. Leave this one with me. I find the whole idea very intriguing.
Was the EV6 supposed to get a navigator update in June? Is it now the case that when the new Kia EV6 models have been released and moved to the new software platform, the development of the old software ended there. Seems like a slightly worrying development. I have an EV6 GT-Line 2023 AWD. Is there any information about the update schedules?
It's actually included in this episode you are commenting on. All Maps updates have been put back to August and the US. As long as Hyundai Group cars are being released with Gen5W head unit we will still see development. Forthcoming Hyundai Casper/Inster has our head Unit
@@evodessey ah ok, I didn't even notice this 🙂. Thank you for the clarification.
It’s all timecoded so you can zip to the parts of interestTimecode 06:05 When is next EU/UK Maps & Infotainment released?
So it sounds from the story below that the 12 volt battery going dead actually activated the deadlocks. And yet when brian disconnected the battery, it did not. Which suggests that as the battery is failing, either there is a hiccup causing the deadlocks to activate, or the system is deliberately doing so. Either way, Brian has proved there is a mechanism that can result in people getting locked inside the car, and I imagine only 1% of people know there is a boot release facility. Sounds like a safety issue.
Yes & only on EU/UK cars so far since US cars do not usually have a dead locking system i’ve been told.
