  My daughter and I watched this years ago and the fact that slavery is still going on under a different mask, I assuredly believe that a Universal change is coming and NOTHING will be able to stop it!!!!!

  I am watching this after reading The Narrative of Frederick Douglass. I chose to read this book for a child and adolescent trauma class I am taking. When Dr. DeGruy Leary spoke on the fact that slavery changed EVERYONE involved, I immediately thought of a person in Douglass' book. She was the "mistress" in one of the homes in which he was sent to serve as a child. Douglass described her as a kind white woman who did not have much experience with slavery; she was the one who began his journey into education and stopped teaching him upon the instruction that this was not to be done. He spoke of how slavery changed her. This is evidence of Dr. DeGruy Leary's assertion. Slavery impacted all!

  We are only fooling ourselves when we blame others. Africans, Persians, East Asians , Hispanic, and now Europeans have had their shot at hegemony. All have colonized and all have enslaved others. All have sinned and fallen short of GOD'S standard. My community (black America) is dying not because of slavery or post slavery trauma, we're dying off due to the destruction of the black nuclear family. But folk make more money off the slavery/racism/Jim crow argument than personal responsibility. The black slave overcame all the horrors she's pointing out and achieving the miraculous feats we were achieving only to throw it all away for false promises of the equal rights movement. I didn't arrive to my conclusions and opinions overnight. At 62, hindsight gets clearer and clearer.

  Dr. Leary thank you for your very powerful presentation. Your research has been shared over and over; yet, white people are still caught in the quagmire of cognitive dissonance. I have Black children who appear to be healthy and whole but cannot help to think that somewhere in the dark recesses of their minds that the trauma of my ancestors has manifested. My mind and heart cry out in anguish for the unknowns that haunt us daily and every night before we fall asleep.
