Is there a reason outside of aesthetics why copper is more popular than brass? to my understanding brass is the superior metal strength wise so surly it would be a better fit for something like a bag strap?
@@JYMBO aesthetics and cost.
Love your videos! They’re like having a friend over who shows the how-to but also does some visiting along the way. Regarding this … um… wear-it-around-your-waist pack for small items, I have made several and am adding my voice to the request for you to make a video for those of us who hand stitch everything.
What is the ideal thickness of leather to do this job?
@luhr.leathersluhr.leathers6150 anything but most folks use between 4-5 and 6-7
Gracias por el vídeo, me gustó mucho y lo voy a hacer.
Can this pattern be done on a belt? If so how would you go about determining the angle for the lines? Thank you
@AmyHahn-yn1zp I actually just did it on a belt. Not sure what angle I used bit when the lines cross right in the middle and the ends of the lines connect on the border of the belt, it looks great!
Nice explanation. Thanks dude!
Great video, thanks! What kind of leather are you using in this and what colour is it?
Maravilloso,desde España
Just got my machine yesterday, I should have watched this video first.
What lace size and weight did you use for the double diamond? As well as the size of holes you punched? Thanks 😊
@@taylathomas32 I cut 1/4" lace and used a 1/8" punch
Those look awesome, how thick is the leather on those?

May I ask a few questions. I'm new to a lot of this .was wanting to know we're would be a good place to get the templates. Also what kind of Barnacher that was.
@GOT_WOOKIEE our store for supplies is www.makersleathersupply.com I do not understand barnacher?
Greetings from Canada. I love your tutorials. Thanks for taking the time to help out newbies.
I love these 2 Min tool tips!
Have you yet made the ...Simple cash wallet video? ty
Any tips on getting the fabric not to fray, especially along the zipper? I don't so much care about the other ends but every time I have tried to make this bag, the fabric frays all over the place and gets caught in the zipper. TIA
@@antonioabitabile2862 fold it under before sewing it to the leather.
@@makersleathersupply1220 Thanks. Just need to remember to cut the fabric and inch or so longer than the leather
Nice tutorial. You kept it interesting with the wee tricks of the trade.
Man that would make a great dove bag.. have to get one
I found that when adding Shearling, I have the best success by starting in the middle of my project. I have done a few of these pistol cases and found that the best method. Just my trick!
Is there a way to keep the two sided tape from coming off on some of these oil tanned hides?
Is there like a mathematical formula for calculating how big a piece of leather to use for a given project? I’d like to make my own wallet pattern.
@@Alex-ib6tm drae it all out on paper first.
Vaughan Gators, tallahassee! That's my brother.
Can I airbrush roughout leather? Totally new to owning/working with leather, looking to buy some Corcoran 10" roughout tanker boots. I hate the light colour they have and I'm looking to dye them using Fiebing’s Suede & Roughout Dye. It just happens I already have an airbrush and I am wondering if it will be good for this project.
@@wierdling928 I honestly don't know. It would take a good bit of saturation but I'd think you could.
What leather line will this be sent out with?? Already ordered, just curious.
@jp1836 the body will be oil tan like the one in the video. The tooled piece will be Texas Oak or Sepici.
Super stoked for the contest, thank you for hosting!!! I have tried on a few occasions to register- Every time it says there is a critical error on the website?
Can you tell me where to get the foam please? I've looked at several places for 1/4" closed foam and am not sure if any of them are the right ones.
SUPPER !!!!!!
You do assume tooling and teaching LJ
Hmm, thanks for the vid but micrometer doesn't tell you ounces, just millimeters.
@@sergedenovo2389 this is true.... and a quick google search can give you a conversion chart for oz and mm.
You can only do this on non-veg tanned leather?
@greeneyedcatwink you can use it on veg as well. I was trying to explain that veg is easier to mark and you can use almost anything. Some leathers need a heated tool like this.
@@makersleathersupply1220 Thanks for the info and fast reply. Your videos are quite helpful. Much appreciated.
I love basketweave patterns, thanks for making this. I've always wanted to make a wallet with a basketweave stamp pattern like this. I was wondering though, how do you finish a piece like this? Can you do a two tone colour effect? And would you finish it before stitching it to the rest of the wallet?
@jayplays568 I always do all my coloring and antique work before assembly. Watch this video and it will show you how to get that effect you're looking for.
@@makersleathersupply1220 thanks! What is the minimum thickness needed to be able to tool leather? e.g. for a wallet exterior or cardholder, what would be the minimum thickness needed?
@@jayplays568 that depends on experience. If you're careful, tooling on 2-3oz is no issue.
Groovy, now if the show just wasn't in August.....in Texas. I'm too delicate for that kind of heat.
This is such a cool contest! Thank you guys for encouraging the leather community to challenge themselves!!
And, you do a great job. You are a good teacher and easy to listen to (minus the snot attacks) and I enjoy your channel and do wish you great success. Sorry, I was not trying to be overly critical. Keep up your good work.
Try not sniffing your snot during the video. Stop and blow your nose. You will present much more professional.
@@BK-ch6up if that's the most unprofessional thing I did, I'm pretty happy. I'm not here to be an influencer who has perfect content. I'm here to teach people how to do leatherwork.
Such a beautiful design!
Can we get project boxes in Australia please.?
I was gifted this template recently and am glad I found the video! Excited to put it together!
Another awesome project box!!!

Put my order in. Getting the templates made it worth it to me, definitely. Showed this to my wife, and she is looking forward to it. Will this have feet for the flat bottom of the purse or do we need to add them if we want them?

Another excellent tutorial. Thank you!
I just took delivery of a Weaver 303 last week, and while I'm able to use it, your tutorial has been extremely helpful and will ensure that I have a much more professional result with my machine sewing. Thank you!
Dear Sir, most if not all saddlery leather would have been veg tanned and still is however heavy chrome tanned hides could be used. I am only familiar with the U K market, Walsall was and still is to a small degree the centre of the saddlery industry in the UK. I did sell chrome tanned leather to a race horse saddle maker. There is way too much for a reply on KZread, if I could have your e-mail and/or your phone number I can explain more. Some folk use olive oil, or beats foot but this can darken the leather and make it feel wet. All the best, Chris
Sup Aaron awesome job on showing people what to expect from the show. Can't wait to see you in a video. And Janey, Sue at the leather show. Have a great day today Aaron and Janey, Sue my friends.!🇺🇲
If we have multiple entries, do we need to register for each entry?
