I like your Channel and I am interested in purchasing a catamaran in the next 12 months. I would like to get access to your spreadsheet I did subscribe to your website and submitted my email address. When I went to your website I did not see a link to your spreadsheet. Could you forward that information to me.
@@HalaciousCharters thanks. Will send it through tomorrow
Struggled to find your email address, is it Hals homes? did your see the email I sent with the links on it? or email me [email protected] Thanks
Just found your feed. Bit late. So awesome & real. Have subscribed and liked but can’t get the videos I want to follow. Just finished episode 2 so very new.
Welcome and thanks for your nice comment. Channel has recently pivoted to focus on helping people buy sail refit and upgrade catamarans. So videos about that coming out. If you are on EP2 still lots of the travel style vlogs for you to view yet. Not sure why you can’t view them?
Very interesting video. I'm looking for a Leopard 48. This one is well equipped and yes the engines and generator are of concerns. The rigging should also be explored further. I'd be doing a 48V conversion, adding solar and batteries to it. Do you know if it has shaft of sail drives, if SD does it have the 50's or 60's on it?
Glad it was helpful! Miriada is now sold. I think she had SD50s from memory. I have just finished a Leopard 46 comparison spreadsheet of all the l46s for sale which i will keep up to date. And will start on a L48 spreadsheet soon. Have you subscribed to www.catamaranmentor.com to stay in touch?
Before buying a Leopard might want to watch this Travel Sketch www.youtube.com/@travelsketch
Yes I am worried about leopard 45s also after their story. I will look into L45s more at some point.
Hey Peter, thanks for announcing my girl as the best 44 even without mentioning 10/7kg washer drier, 100lt second deep freezer, 120l/h water maker, diving tank rack, thermal camera, 6x330ah victorn lipo batteries, dcdc chargers, 200amp battery protect, maxprop feathering propellers, epırb, AİS 700, Yatch sense modem, SS316L rudder bearings, smart home system, all 4 head 8 pumps new or overhauled, remember what more, and all was done March 2023 :)) Take care :)
You are welcome, Yes the limitations of a video not becoming a movie. Buyers can get more information including sellers contact details from the spreadsheet available from www.catamaranmentor.com

Your solar setup is amazing, great idea with the 2 panels going forward. Looking for it online but can't find more info, care to share a link? We are in the early dreamer stage and would love to look at it in more detail. @catamaranmentor we just found you and are enjoying your videos. Thank you!
Would anyone buy a Leopard built by Robertson & Caine?
@@liamsteel2926 yes many happy owners of leopard 44 46 and 48. We have owned our L48 for 5 years now. Certainly not perfect but the value is there. And with my service I help catamaran buyers understand all the pros and cons of any catamaran before purchasing.
we are truly in an upside down environment, this 2012 is asking more than the original purchase price. thanks for the review-
Glad it was helpful! You make an interesting point. I also follow economics, and it's amazing how much money got printed. Furthermore, a difference between a new "bare" boat with no extras and a used boat fully loaded with comfort and safety upgrades would cost as much as $150,000 more. I struggled with this point when shopping for my catamaran. It will be interesting to see what the market is doing over the next 12 months. Thanks for watching.
The engine hours are probably correct, you cannot change hours on Yanmar’s as its stored in engine module. These charter cats get engines changed during their charter life. The bow sprit can be purchased direct form Cape Town, did an upgrade myself for around $12k including sail, split tramp, and strut. You will need to upgrade spin halyard to double and swivel anchor. Those engines are great, the Common rail engines are problems for offshore, old style injection has no computer to fail. Yes, I’d do the rigging, it’s probably at the end of its life, get a kit from Cape Town, they know the specs. That boat does not seem to have life raft, or its not under the bunk in aft cockpit. Cherry is great looking. L48 with a code zero is great upwind, sure like any other cat, in bigger seas, will have slap, but she will sail at 42 AWA, does better around 48Deg.
Great comment thanks. The more information the better to help buyers. The actual engine hours are lost. I went over the engine hours history and when the history stopped as engine displays changed. My view is based on the trend of engine hours from when it was in charter and they did have records at that time. But they start and run now so a mechanic could do a compression test to help people asses. Thanks for watching. Any ideas for futures videos that help buyers would be appreciated.
20 yrs old🫨! That’s a negative skip it.
Haha, all feedback is good feedback; however, there is a buyer for everything. Are you looking to buy a catamaran? What size and age are you interested in?
For a set budget a buyer can choose older and larger or smaller and newer. It takes a bit of consideration to work out each buyers size age and budget sweet spot.
I like your temporary fix for cracked weld.
Thanks, all welded up and has since sailed from NZ to Fiji Australia and now we are in Sorong Indonesia West Papua.
Enjoyed this. Love the humour as always. Thanks.
Thanks SVZ. I always worry we are too serious but had lots of fun ideas editing this tired late at night with weird creativity. Plus yogis one liners.
@@catamaranmentor I think you have a good balance of seriousness and humour.
Good to know 😀🤪
Love that you gave yourself a tick 👌 we all need to remember to give oursleves ticks. Also enjoyed the music video addition, made me laugh 😂
When taking on as many challenges as I do it seems I am developing mental survival techniques lol. Go the 80s and 90s music huh. Was only brave enough to put 5 seconds of that music video in to avoid copyright issues. Google said I might be able to do up to 8 seconds. I also just uploaded the next episode of fears around facing a cyclone at anchor. See you in that video.
That vomit scene 🤮🤣
We’re you eating dinner? 😉😎
😂😂😂Yogi, absolutely hilarious. I love it when you come out with those one liners. Has me in fits.
She is the hidden star 💫
Been following your channel on and off for a while. Wish I knew you where seeking shelter during the cyclones. I possibly could have hooked you up with a very large morning in the bay you where scotting with the tender. Out of interest what is your anchour setup, seems fairly substantial.
Hi Darren, thanks for watching and commenting. We have a 36KG Manson Anchor NZ made (like a Rochna Style) which is a real beast plus 100m of chain. It was actually hard to pull it out of the thick solid mud after the storm. We anchored with over 10X Scope. Unless I was very confident I would choose anchor over a mooring. Anchors can drag slower but many many stories of boats wrecked from moorings breaking off. Thanks for the thought thou. How did you enjoy the video? Did you watch the whole length?
There are mornings, and then there are proper MORNINGS. Would differently be up to you and the owner to work things out though. Have sheltered in Islington Bay myself in a blow. Seems like you didn't get as strong a winds as I would have expected in the cyclone. Simular number to what sheltered from. To be honest I skipped forward a far bit. Was really interested in how you feared in the winds at anchor with the big cat.
I enjoyed your problem solving AND the fact that you gave yourself a "badge" (or a "tick" 😊) of self approval, which encourages you to tackle the next daunting challenge. Here in Chiang Mai we have an un-insulated roof, so to compensate a little, I've installed three enormous bamboo blinds to create some shade on the concrete wall facing the sun. We don't often get much wind, but when we do, they seem to be from either thunderstorms, or of the "katabatic" variety, blowing off the nearby Doi Suthep mountain. Of course the gusts blow the blinds around like crazy, so I have to monitor the winds just like sailors do, and quickly reef the blinds before a squall gets to do any damage. There are lots of other maintenence tasks to do around our house, and pets to nurse due to their age. So I can imagine what it's like trying to keep your maintenance schedule under control (because your floating home will only survive if you do) whilst at the same time getting sufficient fun and rest into the remaining time available.
Hi Dav Snow, Thanks for your very insightful comment. Great to have viewers like you enjoying the video. I do find the maintenance a major challenge so you are right I guess I have to prep talk myself. Sailing does have lots of analogies to other aspects of life like your blind example. I googled Doi Sutherp so I can see where you live. Looks like a very interesting area for us to visit one day. Please follow us real time here facebook.com/sailingdrivingandeating and keep making comments and asking questions. We are a small channel so can interact more personally.
Pakatoa island is for sale in the gulf, it has been since I sold it to the present owner in 1992 for $5m It’s only $40m I had one of my honeymoon there. Lol
That’s cool Lex to be able to say you sold an island. And lol one of your honeymoons. Unfortunately I am all out of 40million this week.Maybe next month ? 😉 Thanks for watching.
What a gorgeous little boy, was very lucky to meet little Liam and Peter today. Can't wait to follow your journey
Hi Ashleigh. You were a great random babysitter for 30 mins thanks. Enjoy the videos and have a good weekend.
@@catamaranmentor haha no worries at all. Are you still on the GC ? I'd be more than happy to come babysit Liam for a couple of hours one night if you wanted to go out for a nice dinner or something 😊 He is such a cutie
Nice save on the anchor!
Yes glad it was not too much trouble to unwrap and lucky we did not hit anything. Thanks for checking out the video. How did you find the edit style? Want it shortened or less music it any other feedback? Trying to keep the videos a little more real and less editing.
Hello Peter, long time between chats. That was a job well done untangling the anchor chain, but can I suggest to place a swivel between anchor and chain which should avoid any tangles next time and using a pair of gloves for your safety. Keep up the great work Guys. 👍🏻👋🏻
Hey Tony. That’s the second comment about swivels lol. Good idea about the gloves. Sorry I can’t pin when we chatted last? Thanks for watching.
You should have an anchor swivel on that chain.
Interesting comment thanks, a lot of people say an anchor swivel is another failure point and there was a bent one on Coco when I brought her which I removed. For this anchor I did drop it by myself which means I might have dropped the chain down on top of the anchor too much with out somebody on the helm reversing as chain goes out. But I did back back on it and felt it set. It was a very tidal anchorage so also possible it wrapped as tide changed directions. All food for thought. Do you use and prefer anchor swivels? Ps Elon Musk says the best part is no part 😉😎
@@catamaranmentor Yes some say that a swivel its just another part to fail, A boat is really just a large parts bin, to my way of thinking in this case the anchoring system and technique failed, without a swivel why that is so could be leveled at a number of things, the actual anchor type, the amount of chain deployed in the conditions, to much chain out in conditions of calm and counter current with the chain moving back and forth over the anchor causing a tangle, or deploying the anchor and then dropping 50 metres of chain on top of it, it is up to each skipper to determine what equipment they are comfortable with and what technique works consistently well for them. PS i see Elon's latest launch sunk his Rocket. This looks like a classic case of the boat winding the chain around the anchor. Under different circumstance it could cost the boat or worse.
Yes imagine what Elon just spent on that rocket test. Next level huh. Lots of factors just need a camera on the anchor lol. Good chat hope others read and all out knowledge grows. Stay in touch it’s always good to talk strategy. or follow real time at facebook.com/sailingdrivingandeating?mibextid=LQQJ4d
@@catamaranmentor Dragging anchor is inherent to the game, it happens to and will happen to everyone at some time, the idea is to reduce the risk by good well tested equipment, good technique and good management. cheers.
@@kennethhammond6683 and to minimizes it so we can “mostly” trust being anchored and relax. Because when you live onboard we have to relax it’s not just like some weekend boat trip where you get to go back to your house to put feet up switch off and chill out. We have to relax out here despite some level of constant risk. Argh the boat life haha 😂
Thank you for sharing really enjoyed watching your video
Thanks, Ocean Kite, I am very glad you like it as videos like this are our main passion to produce. So our plan is to make more food and sailing videos like this one. Since this, we have sailed and filmed a village cooking experience in the Yasawa islands Fiji. That video will be in an upcoming Fiji season episode. Also, we are about to start filming a season sailing up the east coast of Australia to Asia with sailing and food experiences on the way. Strong 'uma' vibes with the tunes on that episode.
Yip correct lots of KZreadr use epidemic sounds for music. I love the music there. Good to have you watching. Any questions ask away. Peter
Haha Yogi… ‘that’s how it starts, it starts with one eye ball and then some other balls somewhere else’ your reaction is classic Pete!
Haha Yogi is funny. I think more silly but people keep telling me she is funny.
Nice looking snapper!
Yes very easy to catch at change of light from Jan to May in that area. Took me years of fishing in that Harbour to learn to fish at change of light only. Morning or night. Have a great Easter.
Hey this was what I was saying on Facebook bro. Had two of my hands over my shoulder watching. Great job I'm gonna watch more episodes. Breaks over though see ya next time.
Yes I thought this episode matched your description perfectly. We are editing the end of the Nz season and then we have already filmed the Fiji season which is epic Bluewater anchorages islands foods etc. all coming soon. Good to have you onboard.
Ka pai! Beautiful part of Aotearoa!
It was. An so good to have a break from the boatyard while we were close to the far North. Thanks for the comment.

Yep, agree with the need for a holiday from the holiday! Are you heading to the pacific islands?
Hi Bryan, Yes we eventually get to sail up to Fiji and further. The plan is to circumnavigate finding yummy food experiences as we go. We have many fantastic adventures coming up in the Fiji season. For real-time you are welcome to follow us along here: facebook.com/sailingdrivingandeating
I agree with your decision to move into deeper water away from the shoreline. I also agree with your decision to stay within the 30 feet deep, large harbor. If time would have permitted, motoring offshore would have been the best bet assuming the depth offshore is significantly deeper to avoid a breaking waves, weather permitting. I'm glad is was a none issue for you. What did the vessels do in the area exposed to the tsunami waves?
Thanks Don, no vessels were damaged in this event around the country. But a year later another Tsunami event wrecked a whole marina in Tutukaka which is close by here.
Great info Peter. Every new situation is a learning experience. This lifestyle is not for the faint of heart. Thanks for sharing this, it presented opportunities for some great emergency planning and prep conversations. Fair Winds!
Very welcome, and yes we get pushed to the breaking point out times chasing this dream. All the best and stay in touch 🙏
That definitely would have been a tough decision to make, very happy it all turned out ok. Yogi says it was frustrating because she was trying to work and it was another distraction, made me laugh. 🤣 bloody tsunamis annoying her 🤣
Lol that’s accountants for you. She will probably send me an invoice for wasted time. 😜

Hi Haley, that’s a nice comment:) how did you find the channel? And guess what we are anchored outside sea world on the Gold Coast. Here until May when we will start heading north.
Hi! We have sent you a PM on Insta Peter😉

Nice episode 👍
Cheers glad you enjoyed it. Lot and lots of hours went into this one but it’s one of my favorites. That and ep2. So far.
You catch not much in harbour at Tauranga my old stamping ground , but still love you guys
Hi Peter, The anchorage location was not in the best spot for snapper. In an a future video we catch some better ones down the Harbour. Also if we used berley that would help. Plus too busy filming and entertaining hahah
You lose a land cruiser and a boat, adventure toys, to start a new adventure on another toy. She loses an entire way of life, an attained goal, symbols of success in her career, her chosen image of how she presents herself to the world. So Yogi wins that one. However I think she's also making the biggest gain in this instance, swapping material and societal success for nature, family, adventure and a chance at true, deep contentment and happiness on the sea 😁
Yeah it’s a mad adventure and lots of change. Great insightful comment thanks. Peter
Congratulations! Well deserved!
Thanks, we were so relieved to get this stage and work over and done with. First world challenges haha. Thanks for watching. The next few episodes are some insane beautiful New Zealand sailing and travel. Stay tuned.
