    Oh that's just lovely! I wish there was sound, even with wind etc, to get an impression of the engine noise.

    Must be frustrating to have a fine sailing yacht and have motorised folk tanking it around and around ? I mean from a scale perspective they are going far too fast surely.

  • @davemelville2760

    It's a large lake and we all manage to keep clear of each other. Fast boats don't usually sail for any length of time so we don't have issues. One of the benefits of a club is that we all sail together and meetings are as much of a social gathering as a sailing session. Works for our members and the videos I post are a short snapshot and sometimes on a non windy day doesn't show many yachts as they are often becalmed. Thanks for you feedback and praise for our yachts.

    A great little video perfectly showing the tranquil lake and a variety of sailing boats. I landed ou your page because I am considering taking up the hobby and I need to know there are good sailing waters not too far away. Thanks for sharing Dave.

    I’ve stood next to Turbinia in Newcastle. I know, I know, I know it worked successfully and impressed the Royal Navy.... but....it just looks too damn narrow in the beam to be sea worthy. Parsons must have set his centre of gravity very low to maintain stability.

  • @ahriman935
    @ahriman9352 жыл бұрын

    Parsons took into account his gigantic balls of industrial grade steel that would have been unavoidable ballast anyway.

    As previously commented she was not very stable but did proove the benefit of turbo power and got Parsons his order from the Admiralty.

    Nice to see old designs back on the water, and at the right scale speed, I would move some weight to the rear to get the bow up a tad if it was mine.

    This is the Alevtina & Tuy built in Russia 1995 along with 4 others of the same build, the owner of the so called HMS Pickle is misleading the public with his blatant lies ! Google Alevtina Tuy or check this Link, facebook.com/groups/895431643860551/?ref=bookmarks

    Scale speed? Appears to be, bow up like the photos I've seen, very nice model!

  • @davemelville2760
    @davemelville27606 жыл бұрын

    Just like the real thing the model has a tendency to list from the propeller tork. Ron researched and modelled as close as possible to the original. He has never achieved max speed as the model would turn over. It was sailing on Wed on our lake in dead calm conditions and the wake looks very convincing. Thanks for your interest

    So the screws are not counter rotating? Are there three per shaft? Always been fascinated with this vessel...I bet Parsons was a hoot...

  • @davemelville2760
    @davemelville27606 жыл бұрын

    Yes there are contra rotating but there is a third centre shaft which causes the problem There are three props per shaft. Parsons spent a long time developing the props to achieve the match with the turbo.

    My Moonglow used to get up on the plane, with a 1.5cc diesel, with a 2.5cc diesel it was a beast (ED Racer), my brothers one performed similarly . A friends one was slow, I think the propshaft angle is important. Good to see one running.

  • @davemelville2760

    Yes Doug is a very keen restorer of models from this period. Vic Smeed models always performed well and it is so good to see his models still sailing and giving pleasure.
