Thank you for this super-informative video!!! ❤ I am severely allergic to timothy hay but am fine with orchard grass hay and oat hay, so is it okay to feed my chinchilla mainly orchard grass hay, supplemented with oat hay…? Also, what do you think of acrylic cages and wooden cages?

I had a hamster that I was feeding by hand. The first time it bit the blood out of me. I was startled, jumped, and said, "Ouch!" The second time I fed her she bit again, but much softer. I jumped, but didn't yell. The third time she put her teeth on me but didn't bite. She was so good. She never bit me again. I fed her all the time by hand and she would take the food, even the ones between my fingers without ever hurting me. That was almost 20 years ago.

When I got my two chins, they came with a Quality cage each from the woman I rehomed them from. I personally didn’t like them at all. I couldn’t believe when I found out how much they cost! About $500 each?! Ridiculous!! 😂

I know this is an old video but hopefully you can offer some help. I have 2 male chins, and they chew up EVERYTHING!!! I’ve tried to give them wooden shelves and hides and they demolish all of it. 😅 To top it off, their cage reeks of pee a few hours after changing it. I’m hesitant to add a litter box because they destroy everything else. I love them but maaaan they’re a full time job. 😖😂

My daughter and i really enjoyed your video! Where would be the best place to get a chinchilla? We adopted one from a person off Facebook, but we don't know much about him. I'd like to add another one but younger

Tysm for this video! Im really wanting to get a chinchilla, and this was very helpful! I took notes of every thing you said😂. Im glad they dont like the heat cause neither do i, also i’ve seen a lot of people having them just around their house, can they be allowed to just be out and about. Obviously supervised! But not in the cage or playpen?

Just for reference for those looking for a cage: My chinchilla cage is made by Pawhut and it has the Ferret Nation bar spacing. We got our chinchilla when she was about 3 months old and we have never had any issues with our chinchilla trying to escape, getting out or getting stuck. Not saying it can't happen if they're younger or a smaller male. Just saying this is my experience. Also, if you think you might want the one with the smaller bars, just in case, keep in mind you might not feel the need for larger accessories now but one day you may want a bigger/heavier wheel made for chinchillas. I HIGHLY recommend these as the smaller ones just aren't big enough or durable enough for a full grown chinchilla. In this case you'll need a cage with more durable bars like Ferret Nation.

My chinchilla has had her second litter, 2 babies. The first baby never got out of the cage so I didn't see it as an issue. These babies were barely 24 hours old and I find them hiding behind the father and older brothers' cage 😅 Thabk you fir this

That chin spin wheel needs new bearings. They use incredibly cheap unsealed bearings. The dust ruins them in short order.

Is it harder to bond two chinchillas if one is significantly older? I have one male who is about 3 years old I believe and the other is a female who is about 8 years old

Hello! I am planning to get chinchillas in the next year, I was wondering wether is is a difference between a air cooler and a air conditioner, and wether or not a air cooler would suffice in keeping the room cool enough for the chins

I’ve seen people use vacuums during cleaning a chinnies cage and was wonder if that is actually ok for the chin? Like I didn’t think it was really good for chin’s ears and hearing but I really wanna know your opinion on it. Also does the washers not get clogged with stray hay or anything? I don’t have Chins yet but I do plan to get them and plan to buy a metal bottom replacement for the critter nation and use shavings for that level and use fleece for the second level!

the exotic nutrition cage is the cage that i am getting for my chin marvin! he’s a grumpy old school chinchilla and i took him home over the summer and we both fell in love. since going back to school he has bitten several people and just been super cranky, so i am taking him home to get him forever. unfortunately, being a school pet he doesn’t really get proper care and is currently in a dog crate with lots of plastic accessories. so we are getting him the exotic nutrition cage because i’ve heard so many good things, this video adding to that!! thanks!!

Can anyone help me out. I got my daughter a chinchilla a few months ago and the cage we got has a plastic tray at the bottom that slides in and out. Our chinchilla started chewing holes in the corners of the plastic tray and can now escape through them. Anyone have any suggestions for a cage that doesn’t have that plastic tray? Please and thank you
