Can't believe how clean it is, no homeless people peeing on the buildings or bathing in the fountains. I hope the people of Kansas City can appreciate how fortunate they are to live in a city that doesn't smell like a urinal everywhere you go.

People saying it looks like a ghost town. I live in KC and used to live in Southern California. Went back a couple of weeks ago and I lost my nostalgia for southern California because it's too damn crowed. People and houses, both, feel like they're on top of each other every where you go. KC is the perfect balance of plenty of people to not be boring but not be overcrowded.

Muir College, class of '93. It's changed so much in the last 30 yrs. I wouldn't recognize it now. I had many good memories and met amazing people. I remember literally running from Muir College to Revelle along with dozens of other students. So crazy.

My grandfather was a chemist here for 40 years (from the late 30's to late 70's). As a kid wmy parents would drive from Houston to Monterrey to visit him and my grandmother. They lived in housing on what was Penioles back then. Spending summers there were some of the best of my life. We'd visit the lab and he'd show us the ingots of gold and silver as well as the coke ovens. We'd pick up slag and bring it back home to America. There was a swimming pool and we'd make friends with the kids of other employees. We were forbidden to do it but we'd hop up on the slow moving train until the guardias would whistle for us to hop off. We didn't know Spanish but I'm sure they were say some choice words to us. Coming from suburban HOuston, our summer visits there were otherworldly. 50 years later me and my brothers still reminisce about those summers.

UCSD has a fantastic location and is very well manicured, but its relative newness and rapid expansion into a truly great, global institution, means it comes across more like a high-tech industrial park, instead of an ivy-covered, quadrangled campus of a great university. Still, beautiful though.

johnson county, ks is dead and a suburb of Kansas City, Missouri. KC proper has 510,000 residents in an area of 319 sq miles, which is bigger than Chicago proper, but not nearly the population of Chicago proper. Unfortunately KC isn't as walkable as Chicago or other Major cities, and I am assuming most people were working as well. The weekend does have increased foot traffic, especially in the Power and Light District.
