  I walked in Wayland along rt 20 , they didn't put sidewalks on both sides up to Weston (very pretty town common) and returned on the Rail Trail , the traffic would stress me out but the Rail Trail was really nice. Then I moved to Exeter NH and the traffic was better , 25 mph speed limit . most people went 35 or so.. A walk to Hannifords was around 2.4 miles, the PO was 1.4. Downtown Exeter is really nice. You are brave to walk along rt 28.
