1. She’s not a spinto. She’s a lyric. 2. Voice is nothing special. 3. People need to educate themselves how a good voice should be, especially if a singer is given roles out of their natural fach. 4. Eh… Alone in the desert? Not much.

You can argue all of that. But do you realize what an artist she is? Her musicality, her poise, her concentration... Please don't just sit at the jury and give points for every aspect. Listen to the music she makes. We don't have too many like these these days! I understand that choosing repertoire wisely is important, but young artists start and grow by using the opportunities they're given. The day will come when she will say no to the Met for a role that's not perfectly ideal for her... What she's doing in the meantime is showing what a real artist can do despite all of that.

@@tonskimojster she is a huge artist , there is no doubts about that. would be great if she would be more carefull about repertoire , as you have mentioned ! my personal opinion - it's a joy to see artist / singer performing naturaly in role that vocaly suites her voice, not to see the tension ( but this happens so rear ) . I adore Asmik, have seen her on stage few times, she gives much more in live performance , compare to recording

Wonderful! Don Ottavio certainly loves Donna Anna but he should assert himself more. No wonder some call him weak, especially compared to Don Giovanni. I admit to being surprised when Don Giovanni attacked Donna Anna when sweet seduction is his method of choice. According to the catalogue, he seduced 1003 women in Spain and hundreds more around Europe.

I’ve seen Goerke quite a few times over the years. It’s a voice you have to experience in a large theater; she makes it sound easy. I saw her decades ago in her Gluck/Mozart/Handel days, and now as Elektra, Barak’s Wife, and Brunnhilde. All extraordinary.

Rather banal. Too slow and cautious, without the lightness of tone and sparkle this aria requires. The trills, though, are very good, but the variations at the end are nothing to write home about. Compare with Sutherland or Dessay...

A beautiful voice, able to sing in French without nasality (unlike, say, Souzay). But in this song he rushes through "mais quand l'astre inclinait sur sa courbe éclatante", which is its climax and should be caressed.

She has an unusual voice. At first it seemed too small or perhaps not warmed up and ready for Strauss. However about two minutes in it seemed to suddenly open into what Strauss needs for this incredibly difficult role. I would love to hear her in person as large voices are not always well served by recording.

To be honest, very few voices sound the same on KZread as they do in the theater. I’ve seen all the great names over the years, and they almost always sound better in a hall where the voice can unfurl.
