No wonder why Puccini could not find a way to finish Turandot. Everything that could follow Liu's death was superfluos.

Closest translation if my german to english isn't terrible: For all flesh is like grass For all flesh is like grass And the glory of man Is like a flower in the grass The grass has withered And the flower has fallen away So be patient, dear brothers For the coming of the Lord Look, a farmer is waiting For the delicious fruits of the earth Waiting patiently until he receives The morning and evening rain So be patient But the word of the Lord endures for eternity Those redeemed by the Lord (not Jesus, and maybe why Brahms had suspected Jewish ties) will return And come to Zion, rejoicing Everlasting joy shall be theirs They will be gripped by joy and delight And sorrow and sighing must depart

Who is Barry McDaniel ? I've never heard of him but he has a fine baritone voice. Kraus is always great. Grazie mille for sharing this beautiful duet with us.

I'm tone deaf, at age 13 I was kicked out the school choir and as I had been rejected I turned my back on the music industry. I admit to never having heard of the singer before, maybe that is partly because I was only born in 1959. Anyway, I can tell that this lady has a good voice and (from the comments) is held in high esteem. But I very much wish that I could actually understand the lyrics, alas the words are largely inaudible / lost because of the style in which the song is being sung.
