    Hi, if I usually go for a 40.5 in other brands... what size do you recommend for NW?

  • @AliuBikes

    Hi there, I cant say for other cycling brands since they all fit different. But for your typical sneaker (nike, adidas, Asics, etc.) go with that sizing. So if youre a 40.5 in a nike running shoe, Id suggest the same in NW

    Nice ride. I need to get back on my bike. I appreciated it as I used to live off of fairfax county parkway and I knew of the connection to the WO&D but despite having spent time in Vienna and riding thru there years ago I was not aware of the new trail at 6:24 in your video. Thanks for the great ride and the information.

  • @AliuBikes

    Hopefully you get back on the bike soon! Another approach for a bit of extra miles is if you go down to the w&od up until gallows road, make a right, there is a small bike lane on the road where you can ride up past the elementary school and the start of the 66 trail is there. It wasnt opened when I filmed this, but it's safer than technically riding on cedar lane in the video.

    Thanks for this video! Can you comment on how they feel on rougher tarmac - is it any smoother than your previous wheels? Also, did you experience any issues with cross winds?

  • @AliuBikes
    @AliuBikes16 күн бұрын

    No problem! So far they feel much better than my previous wheels, which were an aluminum wheelset and before giving my wife a pair of ICAN 40mm depth carbon wheels. I would say its rougher mainly because I went tubeless on the ICAN and I'm now running tubes again, the higher pressure is rougher for me, but also going down to a 26mm width tire vs a 28mm makes it a tad bit harsher. Now I do feel like I roll faster with a better tire and having the extra depth helps with the aero properties, so smoother in that regard. Lastly I do experience issues with crosswinds as it does push you a bit, but you do get used to it unless the wind is pushing really hard. Hopefully that answers your questions

    I would say its more for comfort and all type of terrain riding rather than speed. You can hit that speed on the flats for a good amount of time if you have the legs for it. The fatter tires will slow you do compared a narrower one.

    @@JitinMisra I've done a few upgrades on mine, so far Crankbrothers Stamp 7s, a WTB Volt and DT Swiss G 1800 aluminium gravel wheels wrapped in Pathfinder Pro tan walls (for tubeless compatibility). It is now actually a very nice piece of kit, particularly with the those component upgrades. The group set (Tektro and Sram NX with a PG 1130 - 11-42t) is nice and totally adequate for road and light XC (which is what the bike is designed for), although pretty much entry level compared to the Eagle, I have no plans to upgrade them anytime soon. I'm going to just ride the bike as it is throughout the rest of this year and then either do some more upgrades, Sram Force 1 crankset maybe and I am also thinking about an S-Works carbon DH bar and carbon seat post OR I will pull the plug on upgrades altogether and possibly go for a Diverge, maybe even the flat bar Evo Diverge. I don't know much about the Trek but the Marin DSX FS is another good option around the X 4.0 price point

    I love the value that Giant gives, but lately their prices have been a bit meh (just like other brands). I was deciding between this and a specialized Aethos. It was about $1k difference in frames alone with discounts on both, which made it an easy choice for me. The propel frames would be my number one choice if I had to replace all my bikes for one, but again looking for price and "budget". Will hopefully have the build finished next week, just need one last part to come in. Will get an updated video out soon! Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Hi! have you already tried fitting Shimano RC7's? how was the fit compared to these? Are these fit standard or a little bit wide?

  • @AliuBikes
    @AliuBikes7 ай бұрын

    Pretty standard and yes I did try the RC7's, they do a fit slightly wider than those. I know Shimano has a bit odd sizing if I recall. I previously purchased a EU 45 which was a 10.75 in the RC7 but they were too tight, had to go the next size up for better fit and comfort. Ended up with the north waves at the end of the day due to pricing.

  • @hopelessriomantic
    @hopelessriomantic6 ай бұрын

    Thank you for the insight!@@AliuBikes I recently bought the RC7 due to its price alone, not for the fit or what not, I couldn't pass it up because I got it for only 90$, the only downside is in my area there's no regular fit so I got a wide version, and my foot is slightly thinner than normal. I got a flat feet so it's a little wide but it's thin in height so I got some extra leather on the side around the toebox. but I went and bought some orthotic insoles to compensate on the volume haha. try the wide version of rc7 as it is slightly longer and wider. But I still wanted to try this northwave revolution 3 for the looks alone, because it looks dope, it's just that in my country the price of these is 80$ more than the rc7.

  • @AliuBikes
    @AliuBikes8 ай бұрын

    Hmmm if the translation is correct you would be about a 7 US or 40 EU in normal shoes such as Nike, Adidas, etc. Now this is my personal opinion I think you should get the 40 unless you have wide feet then maybe a 40.5. I dont want to steer you in the wrong direction, but based on my personal experience being a 29cm/US 11, I went with the 45 and that fits perfect

    I have the ar2 and I’m really pleased with it. I have no major complaints - just creaky brakes! Overall, it’s huge fun and very comfortable to ride on a variety of terrains. If you’re riding on gravel, take some air out of your tires and I agree with using quality padded trousers. - they do make a difference. I might consider changing the gear set to Shimano 105 but the tiara set I have at the moment is fine. Overall, an excellent bike.

  • @AliuBikes

    I would say its pretty equal, but that depends exactly what you want do with the bike. The 2.0 has the front small chain ring that helps with climbing and thinner tires that help you roll a bit faster. While the X 2.0 has thicker tires which should be more comfortable and less gears because it is a 1x. If you plan on going off road more then the X maybe the better choice. If you are just riding around paved roads either will be fine, but the 2.0 will have the extra gears for hills.
