    My cousin was a high school homecoming queen in the '50s. Her mother was an outstanding seamstress & made virtually all their clothes, including the gorgeous pink and black gown she wore for homecoming. I am almost positive this is the pattern that was used, I remember the little black bows on the skirt & the ruffles on the bodice. Yours turned out equally gorgeous, kudos for sticking with it.

    Sweet Cindy... a little tip for sharpening your pinking shears (and all other scissors) is to use baking foil. A sheet of heavy duty foil, folded a few times and you just cut and cut and cut until your scissors are sharp again. I do this all the time! I love your channel xxx

    Again a masterpiece!! You are such a marvelous seamstress! Did you take classes or did you learn from the women in your family or both?? Every single dress that I have watched you make on KZread is so elegantly put together. Your choice of fabrics, colors and the type of notions such as buttons, ribbons, etc all fit together perfectly. Thank you. Where you the model with your dress on? If so, you look stunning in your dress! Thank you for creating and sharing the process and now modeling your creations. You are such an inspiration. I watched all the episodes of all the seasons of Mad Men, I loved that show it was eye candy in so many ways! I loved the clothing that was how women dressed when I was a child in the early 1960s. I think I am more a Joan because I am a full figured gal. I loved her character as well. January Jones wore some of the most elegant dresses on the program. I felt sorry for her character Betty Draper because her husband constantly cheated on her and Betty the character seemed so lonely, and disillusioned regarding the life she thought she would live and the life she was living. She gained so much weight in the 5th season which added to her disgust with life and herself. At least that is the way I remember the show..............

  • @CindyLeaux

    Thank you so much! Yes, I modeled this. I’m trying to get more comfortable appearing on camera, haha so I appreciate your kind words! I took 2 private lessons that taught me how to use a sewing machine and sew a straight line, etc. From there I am self taught. My great grandmother was a seamstress but I was too young to learn from her before she passed. Outside of the fashion, yes, Betty was a sad character. Joan is definitely one of my favorite personalities. I didn’t always agree with her but she was just so cool and feminine and I admired her. She’s also a redhead like my grandmother. Thank you for sharing and I truly appreciate you! 🫶🥰❤️

    Could I ask how you get the stretch fabric not to create a lettuce hem? I have the same sewing machine and cannot sew stretch nor swim do to this. 🥲

  • @CindyLeaux
    @CindyLeaux14 күн бұрын

    ohh no there shouldn’t be a lettuce hem. are you using polyester thread & a stretch needle? i also basted a lot so it went smoothly. and if it still won’t lie flat, i might try pressing it flat but make sure you use a good pressing cloth over it to protect it. those are all of the things i can think of that might help 😅

    @@CindyLeaux I’ve tried using polyester thread and a ballpoint needle but may try the stretch needle 🥹 could I ask what your tension and other settings are (stretch only)? Thank you again for your help 🤍 Your work is gorgeous!

  • @CindyLeaux
    @CindyLeaux14 күн бұрын

    @valeriacruise8229 tysm! 🥰 i believe ballpoint needles are more for knits whereas stretch needles are more for swimwear. so ya i’d try a stretch needle and see how you like it. my tension was on “4” but it will depend on your specific fabric. i would practice on a bit of scrap fabric to see if making new adjustments here & there will help. with a few little experiments it should eventually work out for you. hope this helped and you have fun sewing! 🥰🫶❤️

    Cindy, your beautiful videos take me back to the gentler times when I was a child... the 50s. The sweet song of birds in the background, the unhurried preparation and love and care you give to your garments is heavenly. Thank you so much for this. I love your fabrics, patterns and lifestyle... ps. Gutermann is my choice of thread. I've so far not found one to match its quality. My granny used Silko but I don't believe it's available any longer :) xxx Happy Sewing, lovely lady xxx
