Welcome to my channel.
I am a UK-based coin collector specializing, but not limiting myself to, UK pre-decimal coinage. I do collect decimal and worldwide coins and these will feature in my videos from time to time but my main collection is based on the 1860 to 1967/1971 time period. 1860 was chosen as the starting point as this is when the copper coins were redesigned and the base metal changed to bronze.
Over time I plan on filming various aspects of my collecting exploits including unboxing/un-enveloping as well as pre-decimal coin hunts. I am going to try and produce at least one video a week but have many ideas that may see more videos produced and uploaded each week.
As the channel grows I will look to organize giveaways, etc as well... you have to be in it to win it!
So look out for:
• Coin Hunts
• Q&A sessions
• Unboxing/Un-enveloping
• Collection Overviews
• Anything else I can think of recording

Nice!
Wow
Nice to see you back fella. We need more Pre-decimal out of ya.👍
Cheers :-) I do look at what comes up at the local auction but its not been great to be honest. This was the first lot in a while where I said, yep, I want that.
Good to see you back, hope your summer is going good
Thanks Bob. summer is going ok, just waiting for the time to come where I can go on holiday.
Nice additions Matt, The Peru Un Sol is my favorite of the 3
Thanks. Its the 5 Mark that caught my attention but the sol is a nice addition, first Peruvian silver.
Glad to see you back looking forward the next one
Thanks Derrick. Not sure when the next one will be, but I have always been keeping an eye out for bits.
@@mattscoins also love the videos when you do information on a certain coin
Excellent coins Matt. The Five Marks is my favourite out of that lot.
Cheers Dave. Yeah, its mine as well, the main reason why I wanted this lot.
Nice coins Matt!
Thank you
Nice!
Thanks for the interesting video with the silver content for long than the UK is that right?
Thank you for watching and commenting. Yes, the UK debased it's silver coinage in 1947.
I have this coin ❤ ( 1853 )
You seem to be keeping up with a decent world coin collection. I'm struggling to move my interest outside of British, but Austrailian coinage seems to be on my mind more than most. This month's additions for me. 1951 Crown, prooflike in red box. 1962 Half Crown - polished flan, BU lightly toning, unrecorded, Davies die pairings 2+B. Came in a sealed polythene wrap, previously owned by a retired Royal Mint employee. It seems there are more polished flan varieties for other years out there, 1961 being the most prolific. I have seen one other listing for a 1962 polished flan that has been sold. I have heard from others, 1955 half crown and a 1950s sixpence with polished flans.
Thank you for all the great video's, I only recently joined and have been watching when I can from the start. Your knowledge and enthusiasm really comes across. Whether once a week, once a month, or once every 3 months, I'll continue to watch. Being a lapsed collector (I recently re-started again having found some of my late fathers collection - and I normally collect something related but quite different) I did have a dumb query and I apologise if its been covered in a video I've not yet got to - you do some brilliant close ups of coins, what do you use ? (my eyesight isn't ideal so having a microscope with a screen display seems a good option). And lastly have you ever done a video of your "own" collection, it would be great to see. Thank you again for all the work you've done !
Exciting news! The inclusion of Rose number [14] beautifully symbolizes our collaborative efforts in this creative garden at CoinEra. Let's continue nurturing this shared space together! 🌹🌷🌼 Thank you for being an integral part of it! 😊💖
nice sharing
Some very interesting ones in there!
Some cool stuff here matey, particularly from the perspective of an Anglo Australian. All the coins you find in Europa are mildly scarce here in the Antipodes, yet, you chaps, over there, find virtually nothing from Asia let alone the Pacific!! The Pacific is the way to go!! Virtually everything is scarce to rare and even the scarce coins in Unc, from the 1930s - 1980s usually sell in Australia for under $30!! Mintages are very often under a million and often under 50k!! Great long-term investments in an increasingly, unfortunately, globalising world!! Love your Channel mate!! Cheers from Oz!!
Good mixture, nice lot.
Will still look forward to seeing your videos pop up in my feed.
It's got to be fun or it isn't worth it don't make it a job.
Yep, well said. I
hi matt i sent you a picture of the 1862 b half penny over on your fb page nice video interesting as always
Nice additions Matt, always good finding Irish Farthings
Lovely collection that looks like it was catalogued in the 90s, maybe. The PVC showing off the damage it causes over time 😢.
Yeah, most definitely out of a collection. I did give the ones I'm keeping a swish in soapy water and a dab dry... that did remove the stickiness. Pvc is horrid stuff when it comes to coins
@@mattscoins Sorted! :) Glad there are non-PVC alternatives these days.
This coin became bimetallic in 1998 due to possible counterfeiting of that coin. This was the largest Hungarian coin by size at that time. The current Hungarian coin that has the largest size as of 2024 is the 200 forint one, which is also the largest denomination.
Hi Matt, some nice additions 😎👍
عندي ختها
The 'washer' is Egypt issued by British circa 1900. Frequently quite worn; yours more so!
Thank you.
Great video, but quick correction, the 1943 U.S. penny was made of steel, not silver.
Yes, of course! Not sure why I said that but thanks for the correction.
Did Irish, Australian, and the other pennies of the pre-decimal era circulate freely in Great Britain. In the US canadian mixes in with our coinage pretty regularly.
I'm not old enough to know a pre-decimal world but I can imagine the odd one may have slipped in.
Beautiful coins Matt!
That Westminster 5 pounds for 5p made me laugh! I don't mind you skipping over e.g. all the 1 Euro cents, as long as you do look at them off camera. There's always a very small possibility of something rare like an NIFC or micro state (Andorra/Vatican etc.)
I have them all separated out, so I will have a look as you make an excellent point.
Hi Matt. Have you ever come across any coins from North Korea. I am currently in the process of obtaining a coin from all the countries in the world. North Korea seems to be impossible to find. Keep up the great videos.
I have, just 1 coin though, a 5 chon
@@mattscoins , at the moment I have 193 with 26 more to find. I have counted the British dependencies.
How many different countries are you at now very interested to know
129 now
The best silver coin for me is the 1927 florin coin from Australia.
I think I have a 1862 B to the left of lighthouse, interesting to see your c variety
Interesting, would love to see that
@@mattscoins ive just sent you a message over on your fb page
Nice penny
Thank you
The Austrailian 1927 Florin is gorgeous and that design is striking. The oval plaque the 1927 sits on really shows off the strikes depth. Definitely on my bucket list. Never mind that lovely 1875 penny.
The 1927 was a bit of an impulse purchase, I will admit. It is a lovely coin in hand with some toning starting to shine through. The 1875 was a definite upgrade and one of a couple of varieties to be found on the 1875s
@@mattscoins impulse buying is going to happen, I know. Any ideas when the Cardiff Coin Fair is to return and do you attend other fairs? Thinking about checking out the International Antiques & Collectors Fair at the Royal Welsh showgrounds in future.
@bottlecapdave2021 I am an impusive buyer on occasions... I won't say anything here that will incriminate myself ,though 😉 I have heard June as a possible date. If I hear anything, I will try and let you know. I will have a look at that fair, as it sounds like something my wife would be interested in. As for other fairs, only been to the Midlands coin fair once. Must go again at some point.
@@mattscoins 😁 yes please and thank you. With there not being an up to date official page it's difficult to keep track of what's going on.
@bottlecapdave2021 no problem. I tend to watch the updates from a dealer friend of mine, he usually posts on Facebook when he is due to attend.
That 1875 penny is absolutely fantastic.
Thank you :-)
Some great coins there Matt. I love the 1875 penny 👍
Thanks Paul. The 1875 is a Beauty, Freeman F82 (8+J) if you want the variety ;-)
There was one advert on Facebook for Kensington 'Mint' selling a set of Victoria silver and bronze coins for £899. In the video they are all worn and mirror polished. Disgusting companies and these silly armchair collectors keep purchasing these sets.
I saw that advert and I reported it to Facebook as a scam. I see things like this at the auction every now and then and feel for the person selling the stuff (not necessarily the person who originally purchased it) as I know that the £800 purchase will only realise £50...
@@mattscoins it's sad.
Glad you havent lost these files 😂
🤣
I got 3 of that year and 1 1884..
A short one but still interesting finds! 😅
Yep, any finds are good finds though
0:43 - maybe they put it on a coil for so long, so that the coin looked like this.
That is the thing about coins... the hidden history, the things we will never know
If I remember correctly, the 1966 50 cents is the only Australian decimal circulation coin that has silver content, 80% silver. I like their designs especially the kangaroo.
Looking at Numista, you are correct, I never knew that
The 2009 US cents are relatively rare and depict scenes from Abraham Lincoln's life. Lots of Euro coins in this lot. Do you trade them away in bulk too, or keep them separate for spending on holiday?
Yeah, that 2009 was the first one I have seen. The Euro stuff I keep aside, I don't know what I will do with them as our holidays tend to be in the UK, this year being another Canal Barge holiday.
@@mattscoins I guess all the small cent coins might also be worth more as random coin lots than their actual face value.. 🤔😅
With the Canadian nickels I thought I saw one with the privy mark P some of these hold more value.
Oooo... I will have to go and have a look, thanks for the heads up
