  I swear to God, 'till this day I still think this could've been a special anime and manga if the author wouldn't have made a full on 360º in the manga. Some things are better kept simpler sometimes, no dinosaurs, no nothing. Like, just stick to one or two or three major themes like vampires, emotional connection and the whole "who's the real villain and does the real villain ACTUALLY exist" that Guren seemed to have going on and keep going. For a lot of reasons, the connection and love between Mika and Yuichiru felt real and genuine, and the characters (especially the vampires) were also very interesting and almost compelling (especially in their backstories) at times, like Krul or Crowly. I was really intrigued by Ferid (bcs he's like batshit crazy especially in the manga and he's really entertaining) and Yoichi too and I wanted to see how's he going to continue with him, but they gave him a gripping backstory and reasons, and then decided to just move him into the back (like what?) and bring forward boring and stupid characters. Idk, by this point, I'm just gonna get my fix for this story on AO3.
