    This is so stupid, if I sell something for $150 and y’all take $23 from it, that’s just outrageous, y’all are pathetic. I’m not using y’all’s platform anymore. Y’all are making more than me at literally no cost. Facebook marketplace has no fees. eBay, y’all ain’t taking my money anymore.

    i do not class myslef as a business, im just selling off my late husbands stuff. yes it came to over £1000 but i never kept any records of expenses for packaging, which is the only expense i had as i didnt know i would be expected to register as a business. it says on hmrc pages that if i occasionally sell household items then im not classed as a business, im confused.

    As a vat registered tradesman, can i reclaim vat on purchases made to ebay shops? Im not sure how to find out if the sellers are vat registered or not

  • @linkmybooks
    @linkmybooksАй бұрын

    If you request a VAT invoice from the seller then if they are VAT registered they are legally required to provide one for you. If you then have a VAT invoice for your purchase, yes, you are then able to reclaim that on your VAT return.

    I sometimes buy items to sell on ebay, I also work a full time job. Do I owe tax from the profit of the items made? Or is it taxed from Total Revenue rather than Total Profit? E.g. I buy an item for £100, and sell it for £200, would I owe 20% of £200 (Total Income) or would I owe 20% of £100? (Total Profit)

  • @linkmybooks
    @linkmybooks3 ай бұрын

    If you have a Limited Company in the UK you'd pay corporation tax on your company profits but you'd also pay VAT at 20% on your turnover if you are VAT registered. If you're a sole trader then you'd declare your profits in your self assessment and pay taxes on those via your self assessment. Again if you are VAT registered you'd pay VAT on your turnover. This is not tax advice and you should speak to an accountant. You can find a good ecommerce accountant here: linkmybooks.com/experts

    Complete and utter waste of time trying to sell books on eBay. Only the most stupid and the most gullible could believe otherwise. 5 UK companies dominate the eBay book market who between them selling 7 books every second accounting for a staggering 97% of all sales. It's utterly useless advice for an utterly pointless exercise that will leave you frustrated and out of pocket. Best advice would be to donate your books to a local community centre. Charity shops sell most of their donated books to million pound companies who sell them on eBay and Amazon. The great charity shop rip off.

    Yes, Xero and QuickBooks are both very similar. They both have inventory facilities but for anything complex inventory-wise you'll probably outgrow their tracked inventory and want to use a 3rd party integration such as Unleashed,

    Hi there! :) Could you please advise if i can get exemption from VAT for PPC if I register LLC in US while residing in EU? Right now I sell as an individual only in US marketplace while residing in EU. I noticed that I was paying VAT on top of PPC expenses. Is there any way to get exemption and also reclaim VAT back once I register LLC? Tons of thanks in advance!

    If you prove to Amazon North America that you are a business and not a consumer then they should stop charging you VAT on your fees yes. Then you should be able to get them to refund you for the VAT you have paid too yes. However you can't then reclaim the VAT back later on via the tax authorities since Amazon will have refunded you the VAT. Check with your accountant too as this is not tax advice.

  • @linkmybooks
    @linkmybooks4 ай бұрын

    Yes, this has nothing to do with Brexit. This is if you have paid VAT on your Amazon fees hen you should not have. See the blog post linked in the video description for full info.

    How does it work if I'm exempt from VAT? I'm located in the EU and since this is a side job for me, I'm registered but not reaching the limit. So, I applied for VAT exemption. I provided my VAT number to shopify and shopify charges 0% VAT on my invoices. But since I'm exempt and I don't have tax advantage, would that mean that I do actually pay VAT on my shopify bill? If so, what percentage and how? I just want to do things right but I'm confused. I also asked this to shopify but they seem to be confused as well for some reason...

  • @linkmybooks
    @linkmybooks4 ай бұрын

    To be honest this is a little outside our jurisdiction. It sounds like they are not charging you any VAT since you gave them your VAT number, they are probably reverse charging your VAT as explained in the linked blog post in the video description. Hope this helps.

  • @melihksgl
    @melihksgl4 ай бұрын

    @@linkmybooks Thanks for your reply! But honestly, I'm not sure what you mean with it. You only stated you understood my question, which is good but the video above you refer to doesn't explain anything about my situation (about the people who are VAT exempted). Is it because my question a little or actually fully outside of your knowledge area? So, do I have to pay tax on it or not? If yes, how... I'm still really confused

  • @linkmybooks
    @linkmybooks4 ай бұрын

    @@melihksglIf your invoice from Shopify shows no tax then you are not paying any tax. I'd suggest you speak to your accountant about this though.

    Can you get a VAT refund on advertising costs if your business is established in the UK but you're selling on Amazon US? US advertising VAT invoices have a US Amazon company address as the supplier, not a UK Amazon company address.

  • @linkmybooks
    @linkmybooks4 ай бұрын

    If you check the invoice from Amazon if it has a supplier VAT registration number that starts with GB and the VAT percentage is 20% then yes.

    If you navigate to Reports > Tax Document Library in Seller Central you can see all your VAT invoices there and add up all the UK VAT you have paid. Alternatively if you hook your Amazon account up to Link My Books then we have a VAT Audit feature allowing you to see how much you have paid in VAT on fees too. :)

  • @linkmybooks
    @linkmybooks Жыл бұрын

    Yes, it works with bit Xero and QuickBooks. If you sell a mixture of standard, reduced and zero rated products on Etsy and eBay then we create product groups so that you can apply different tax rates to each group. We are working on automating the grouping of products into product groups with Etsy and eBay (we already do this for Amazon and Shopify) but it is not ready yet. For now you'd need to assign a group to each product in Link My Books manually or via bulk upload file.
