Dan Kirby Painting Sessions

Dan Kirby Painting Sessions

Hello there, my name is Dan Kirby.

Welcome to my painting channel.

www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/3HJNF2AXVE16M?ref_=wl_share

I'm a happy and relaxed little miniature painter. I paint figures of all different types from all different games and don't choose one company over any other. I am not affiliated with any companies and offer a simple and easy little painting style that is quick and straight forward to follow. I paint in my spare time and have made this channel simply to share my passion and my hobby with others. The channel has been made to offer tips and advice for people in the miniature community. It will be dedicated entirely to miniatures of all ranges and paints of all ranges also. This is a quest to become a better painter both for myself and for you also. I would like this channel to be about constructive criticism and positive tips for new comers and experienced painters alike.

    Hello Dan, How do these Vaultz minis look next to the original resident evil minis? Are they about the same size 32mm?

  • @Bread0fHeaven
    @Bread0fHeaven8 күн бұрын

    That’s a great question. They are slightly larger if you print them straight from the link. But if they were reduced by about 5% I think they’d be pretty much the same scale. There’s not a lot of difference in them but that little bit extra can make a little bit of a difference.

    Can't say as I've ever played Dino Crisis--much to my chagrin--but I think your replication of the scheme is absolutely top-notch as always, Dan! (And now here's to wondering what size you could print her at to act as an 'alternate costume' for RE3BG's Jill!)

    You missed a really treat with Dino crisis. Such a great game and very much made in the same style as the old original resident evil games. You have the right idea though as this could be used as a great alternate outfit for Jill in the resident evil game. I love that idea and think it fits so well with the old style of games back then that would have these little easter eggs in them. Thanks so much for dropping by and watching mate I really appreciate your time.

    Thanks you! The easiest way to imagine Dino Crisis is that it was a cross over between classic resident evil playstyle and Jurassic park. It had the action and puzzles similar to resident evil 2. I hope they make a remake so that people who missed it the first time around get to experience it. Thanks again for watching mate.

    Thanks so much! It’s a great character to paint and it was so much fun going back and reminiscing over the old games. I would also love to see a remake or remaster of the series and I really think with today’s tech they could make an amazing atmosphere. Hopefully seeing how successful the resident evil remasters have been maybe we might see this in the future. 🤞. It can be heard trying to get the idea right for the bigger and stranger looking creatures but it's possible to get some great results without needing to go overboard too. Thanks for doing this, it is just what I need. I mostly paint historical miniatures, so Romans, Greeks or Medieval stuff is well within my comfort zone but things like Wargs I don't come across very often. My son has recently come back to MESBG after a 15 year break so I've had to launch into an Isengard host to play against him... I really need these Wargs to give his Rohan a run for their money... Cheers.

    Thanks for watching my friend! Wargs are great fun to paint and they come in a variety of different colours so you can go a bit crazy when painting them. A 15 year break is huge and there’s so many new minis for the mesbg that I’m sure he’s going to have lots of fun collecting them again. The Isengard battle host is a fantastic boxed set. I love how much they’ve added into that including Saruman and Gríma Wormtongue. I love that you normally paint historical miniatures and that something I am really missing here on the channel. The channel could do with some romans or even some Welsh archers! Thanks for watching and commenting my friend it really means a lot as it helps the channel to grow. Excellent video. I have Liquitex inks and they leave a satin finish that does not convince me, how do the ones you use in the video work? are they more matte than the liquitex? Thanks again for your work and sorry for my english translator.

  • @Bread0fHeaven
    @Bread0fHeavenАй бұрын

    Your English is very good my friend and no need for apologies at all. I’ve not used the liquitex inks personally just yet so cannot compare them properly. I am planning on getting a few of them so that I can test them and add them into some of my painting videos. These have a slight shine to them when dry. They are not perfectly matte but I do always like to add a matte varnish on top of my models to tie all of the colours together. This extra layer holds the colours together very nicely and it also brings any shine on the inks down too. I hope this is a good answer and hope it helps you out my friend. • @Bread0fHeaven
    @Bread0fHeavenАй бұрын

    Thank you so much John, that’s very kind of you my friend. It is an intimidating model at first glance and it can take some time to hand paint all of those details in the bark but it is very much worth it. I tried so hard to make it my own and make a video where I did it differently to other styles of painting ents and trees. I know that these types of models have been covered a lot of KZread so having my own spin on it makes it a little more unique in some ways. Although I know it might not be for everyone or it might not be the way people may have expected it to work I’m personally very pleased with the overall result and I feel like it’s a great way to paint this style without being over complicated and too difficult for people to follow. Overall it’s been a great project and there’s parts of this model that have inspired and influenced me to step up my own painting skills for the future too. I’m really glad you liked this one because I know you’ve been looking forward to it for quite a while. Thank you so much for watching it ( multiple times ) and commenting my friend. These are by far the best way to help the algorithm show my work to others on the platform. I love to paint and I love to help others learn and am grateful for the opportunity to inspire others to learn too and the input that you guys have on here really helps my channel grow. I could not be more appreciative of that and I am forever grateful to you all for your continued support.

    Flat black? that looks shiny?

  • @Bread0fHeaven
    @Bread0fHeaven2 ай бұрын

    It should be just the way the light is catching the model that makes it seem a little shiny. To the naked eye it is quite a flat tone. I always do recommend covering the models in a Matt varnish after they’ve been painted to protect the paint but it also adds that “flat” tone and brings the vibrancy of the colours together too. I hope this answers your question my friend, thank you so much for watching and commenting I appreciate it so much.

    Hi Dan, videos like this really round out your channel!! Your tips and tricks help to raise the level of modelling. I always wanted to use these rollers. Thanks for showing how to use them. How long does the clay take to dry? Do you go over the static grass with anything to seal it all in? I think the wood floor could have used a darker wash to bring out the texture of the wood. This is great content and I can't wait to see what you bring us in the future. Diolch my brother

  • @Bread0fHeaven
    @Bread0fHeaven2 ай бұрын

    As always Michael you have some fantastic questions for me. I love it when you ask questions as it will help others who may be thinking the same thing. The clay takes a good few hours to dry. I normally leave it for at least 24 hours to make sure that the thicker parts also dry just in case of any cracks that might appear. When it comes to covering the static grass I do normally use a clear Matt hobby sealer spray can. That way the grass gets an added coat of toughness to hold it in place when the scenery gets used. I think you are right about the darker wash on the wood to really bring the textures out a lot more. Although the colours and powders have worked well there could also be more contrast and this gives me room to improve. I’m happy as always you’ve enjoyed this one and appreciate all of your input my friend. Thank you so much for your time and dedication to my little hobby place it honestly means the world to me.
