  I forget she was a child star. No wonder she was so messed up. The sexism and racism she had to deal with. She was very well spoken. She had a short life, but boy did she leave her mark on the world.

  Here Lady is really sick. But she looks bad ‘cause of the terrible lights in the studio; there are photos taken in the same period in which she is absolutely beautiful. Her voice sounds here like the voice of the little girl who now she seems returned to be and in her deep never abandoned her.

  Here Holiday is more singing than the night at Wein’s Storyville in Boston 1953 although in this concert she’s three years older. Even her voice is in better shape and sounds younger and good emission in better health. And more… there were tv camera and she knew they were recording her. And here she is backed vigorously and properly. They all are in good mood and shape. They all work. And they work so good. ❤

  Un video picture da ascoltare. Billie Holiday at George Wein's Storyville (1953). Magnifico colore di voce, swing marcato, a volte Holiday deliziosamente impertinente, irrequieta. Qui è Lady, una delle più Lady di sempre; canta, swinga, mockeries a profusione e manierismi sfrontati fin quasi all'autoimitazione. Lady gioca alla grande quella sera anche se l'accompagnamento non è granché stimolante e non la porta alla magnifica sfida cui la portò Oscar Peterson nel magnifico album Recital, Clef Series.. Lady dopo un rendez vous e prima di un altro: abissali appuntamenti con le sue splendenti luci buie e con le profonde ombre delle sue luminose oscurità. Tuttavia pelle a pelle con il pubblico. Chi non vorrebbe essere stato là quella sera? Lady è Lady. Solamente 38 anni a quel tempo. La sua voce non lo dice. Here, we have Lady after a rendez vous and before another one; abysmal dates with her shining lights and deep bright darkness shadows.
