    Death, unlikely. Injury, including severe paralysis or getting maimed? highly likely if you do it long enough. If you breakdown death or injury by skill level of the jumper... Less experienced AFF students (due to lack of skills) and more experienced jumpers C/D licensed (due to sheer # of jumps and swooping) get killed or hurt most often. I think its still worth it. You gotta respect the sport and take it seriously. Also, realize some of the other jumpers in the plane may not be as safety conscious as you are.

    I still use super old digital compact camera, a Nikon A100 and the sensor is 5.152 x 3.864 (4:3) which is 20MP and more then enough.. Pictures look stunning in the original aspect ratio! In this mode the camera also has the option to record pictures with less compression and higher Quality.. 😀

    Yess. This is how you do it.. Always use the full sensor 😀 And then crop it and chop it (if you want to) However 4:3 Videos get more and more poplar and just stand out..

    I feel I deserve your certificate for use towards the purchase of a new container as I am a new skydiver (Sep 2023 earned my A and I have completed 30 jumps so far, one at a host dz). I'm 59 y.o. and am saving for a container/harness system. At the rate I'm able to save it is going to take two years. I need my own gear soon. I got into skydiving as my dad was airborne in the U.S. Army during Korea and had jumped 1,900 times. I'm retired U.S. Navy and flew onboard the P-3 airplane, having to practice putting on an emergency parachute but never needed to use one. Hearing my dad's stories intrigued me, but I was always afraid to jump. He passed away a few years ago, but I know he is looking down at me enjoying the same thrill he did. I will DEFINITELY use the certificate to purchase new gear that fits me and I will gladly and proudly share pics and videos withbyou or on your channel of me and my new gear that you helped make possible. Please, help a new skydiver continue diving, but with new gear that you helped make possible. Les

    Hi Mark, I like your videos, and I wanted to see if you could help me with something, I'm a skydiver and I'm about to start using a camera, but I can't decide whether to go for a gopro 11 or a 360 camera like the insta 360, do you have any opinion on this? Thank you! Greetings from Argentina

  • @PernDog
    @PernDog10 ай бұрын

    Ounce for ounce the GoPro is still the best action cam out there. The Insta 360 X3 has the same resolution as the GoPro 11, but it's spread out over 360 degrees, whereas the GoPro is spread out over 120 degrees. The GoPro is going to look way sharper. Plus, you can record in 10-bit color, high-speed framerates are better on the GoPro, and the sensor is taller. When you record in 4k 8:7, you're capturing full 4k images but they're much taller. So for skydiving it's my preference because I can capture so much more in the frame and edit what I want in post. Capturing in 360 sounds amazing but I really don't like the "small earth" look that a lot of videos use. I prefer the video to look as natural as possible.

    Many thanks for sharing! I just started to use my gopro 11 last week so it's good to know. I checked with the Quik app preview mode and the top and bottom is cut if I switch from 16:9 to 4:3, crazy stuff... the area covered with 4:3 wide is matching with 16:9 superview just with much less distorsion. I'm so grateful, thank you so much!!

  • @PernDog
    @PernDog Жыл бұрын

    On the H11B I'm shooting in 8:7 for skydiving and other action, but go to 16:9 for anything handheld. It really captures an insane height and you don't have to worry so much about camera position - then adjust it while editing.

    What will be the best workflow to edit a footage like this ?

  • @PernDog
    @PernDog Жыл бұрын

    The workflow I use is pretty basic, but it's working for me. I got the new GP11 and use the "natural color" setting so I don't have to use any LUTs. I do a basic color correction for the entire clip - set white balance and drop the shadows for better contrast. I simply drop the clip into a 16:9 project, and then use the position adjustment to set each clip to the framing that I want. Then I apply an adjustment layer for sharpening. I also have a basic audio adjustment for GoPro sound, especially if there's any voice. It reduces noice and then adds a bit of top end for clarity. The new GoPro really does a stellar job with audio and video quality. I need to update my skydiving settings but haven't been jumping much lately!

    Is this just for helmet mounts? What if you mount your GoPro to your chest or shoe? I can't image a camera on your shoe getting tagged in your lines. But I'm not a skydiver (yet). Would love to know an experts thoughts on this.

  • @PernDog
    @PernDog Жыл бұрын

    It's for jumping with a camera, period, mounted anywhere. The reasoning is since skydiving is such a high-sensory sport, you want to develop the right sequence of procedures, safety checks, and emergency procedures before introducing turning on a camera and thinking about getting the shot. Jump run happens fast, so you want to make sure you practice emergency procedures, check each others gear, get a proper spot and separation between groups - not worry about grabbing the best still for social media. Not all dropzones honor this but 200 jumps is a solid guideline set by the USPA.

    the drop zones I've been to that had CRW gave them their own pass. They will get out higher than a hop and pop, but well below 10k when four way teams get out (again on their own pass). High pull was considered something else where you get out last after the wing suits (unless you are trying XRW I guess)
